Any fellow Leavers who would like to use this thread to post GOOD NEWS (away from Remainer doom & gloom)?

How about this for starters:

Norway’s $1 trillion (£753 billion) sovereign wealth fund – among the world’s most respected investors – has just confirmed it will boost its UK holdings. “Over time, our UK allocation will increase,” said Yngve Slyngstad, the Norwegian Fund’s CEO. “With our 30-year-plus time horizon, current political discussions don’t change our view,” he added, reaffirming his commitment to Britain even in the case of a no-deal Brexit.
This kind of clear-sighted, grown-up analysis contrasts starkly with the endless doom-mongering we get from subsidy-hungry politicos at the CBI. It’s precisely because Britain will thrive after Brexit that we attracted record foreign direct investment last year, beating the US, with only China attracting more. Even British start-ups raised almost £8  billion in venture capital during 2018 – some 70 per cent more than their French and German counterparts.
Boeing has opened its first manufacturing plant in Europe – in Sheffield. Technology-driven investment is piling in – not just to London but to Manchester and the North-East too. And, as Brexit-bashing stories about planes not flying are trumped by reality, investors from China to the Middle East are flocking to a country just judged by Forbes magazine as the “best place in the world to do business” for the second year in a row.
Yes, overseas investors are taking advantage of the weaker pound, which makes UK assets look attractive. But that’s how exchange rates work – which is why Europe’s monetary union is so crippling for many of its members.

Sorry for the long post but I’m not keen on links!

Nothing has changed since the 18th century then?

I suppose that's what comes of never learning any lessons about the possibilities of the future from those experts about the past. Historians.

andycameron69 Sun 10-Mar-19 18:20:16

Day6
How true!

Urmstongran Sun 10-Mar-19 19:16:04

Wow andyC by your standards that last post was quite an essay!

Go Andy!!

And yes suzied you are right - I do like to give out ‘recommends’ and why not? Anyone, yes anyone (!) who posts GOOD NEWS on this forum, to cheer us up, deserves a recommend! I’ve not given you one yet. I wonder why?
Maybe as Joelsnan suggested, it would be good if you started your own forum and gave out merits accordingly to the other gloom buckets!

MaizieD you and I come from opposite ends of the spectrum on this issue. You know that. You also knew that I wished for this forum to celebrate any GOOD NEWS. Yet you hijack it with half a dozen others (you know who you are ladies!) and defiantly attempt to sabotage this thread. And why would you want to do that? What pleasure do you all get from your negativity?

As I’ve previously said I cannot stop you (fair enough) but considering there are plenty of other Brexit threads out there that you could all post your dire predictions on (for let’s face it, that’s ALL they can be, predictions!) what possible pleasure can you all get from keep posting?

I think we shall just have to agree to disagree.
(Says she, again, ever so politely).
Not even when provoked have I once responded in kind.

Says a lot doesn’t it about our attitudes and behaviour?

Day6 Sun 10-Mar-19 19:17:54

It does indeed, Urmstongran

varian Sun 10-Mar-19 19:19:29

No-one has posted any good news about brexit on this forum or anywhere else unless you count someone posting " I am very excited and happy" as good news.

andycameron69 Sun 10-Mar-19 19:22:18

In your opinion!
Thank goodness I and the good newswer here have been blessed with grains of optimism. It must be so bleak and dreary luving in your constant state if anxiety and dread.

Day6 Sun 10-Mar-19 19:29:44

No one has posted any good news about those robbing EU bureaucrats either varian, have they?

Anyone in praise of EU bureaucrats?? Remainers? Anyone? Tell us how wonderful they are and why they are deserving of the power to have influence over us in the UK. Oh and name them too please. And the structure of the EU. Remind us why we need not be suspicious while you're at it please. How can you reassure us that the future is bright in the EU when many predict it is rotting from the inside out and won't be around twenty years from now? Remainers? Do tell us.

See what I mean varian?

Some of us (the majority actually....) think not sending £BILLIONS of UK taxpayers money to Brussels every year is a very good place to start - a reason for optimism.

crystaltipps Sun 10-Mar-19 19:47:40

Not much in the way of good news on here apart from project fear of what might happen in the future and “ I am so happy” which sounds a bit delirious to be honest. It’s fine to be optimistic despite having the most useless bunch of political leaders in living memory, but not acknowledging that is a bit short sighted.

Urmstongran Sun 10-Mar-19 19:53:04

Exactly Day6 take a recommend ??

I’ve been out and about with family today so I shall look out for GOOD NEWS tomorrow and post any I find on this optimistic and inspirational forum.

Actually andyC take a recommend ??
By ‘eck you deserve one!
You’ve been cheerfully bobbing along even when some people have either been unkind or dismissive. The world needs more happy people, like you!

This might give you a little titter ?
"In a fresh blow to remainer MPs, their leader on the Tory benches, Dominic Grieve faces a no confidence vote at his Beaconsfield association meeting on March 29th!!!"
At least the back stabbers won't be able to sabotage that vote.

GabriellaG54 Sun 10-Mar-19 19:59:33

MazieD has a great deal to say, most of it gleaned, copied and pasted from the many sources she peruses daily and none of it worth reading or remembering.
Give it a rest.
You're no parliamentarian although like them, you could talk the hind leg off a cart-horse never mind a donkey.

andycameron69 Sun 10-Mar-19 20:03:35

brexit will carry on out we go

fab news

crystaltipps Sun 10-Mar-19 20:08:07

If all you need to do to get a recommendation from the gang leader is post the same old airhead comments then take a raspberry.

Day6 Sun 10-Mar-19 20:10:34

"Not much in the way of good news on here apart from project fear of what might happen in the future and “ I am so happy” which sounds a bit delirious to be honest."

But equally crystaltipps unlike Remainers, we have faith in the future and the ability of the UK to hold its on outside the EU. It is a different mindset. You might say we need to stay put, everything - our future - DEPENDS on remaining in the EU, but that too could be a short-sighted view, couldn't it?

Leavers see Remainers as fearful "We are going to fall into the abyss and it will be HELL" types. They have no sense of adventure, have they ? (That was a joke by the way....)

We look to the strengths of the UK. You look to our shortcomings and find us lacking. I see the EU as a bind, you see it as a crutch. That's the difference. I am not blinkered - or if I am, perhaps remainers are too?

The Brexit negotiations have been a complete pig's ear. I suspect we can agree on that. For me this event has revealed just how much we need to scrutinise our MPs and their stance. Many of us feel badly let down by so many of them who seem to have delighted in playing for Brussels, strengthening the EU's hand, rather than our own.

I see my fellow Leavers as a savvy bunch. I am in good company.

.

Urmstongran Sun 10-Mar-19 20:11:28

Oh yes petra that is music to my ears! Take a recommend ??

At the next general election (if not before) the likes of
Yvette Cooper and Anna Soubry should beware! Their constituencies voted OVERWHELMINGLY to Leave.

It is said that revenge is a dish best served cold.

Urmstongran Sun 10-Mar-19 20:15:21

Annoyed much crystaltipps?
If it bugs you so much why get involved here?

Joelsnan Sun 10-Mar-19 20:44:34

Jane10 Sun 10-Mar-19 21:02:15

By and large, in the long run, whatever the outcome, we will most likely be OK. Not necessarily brilliant and things will be wobbly economically for a while but business finds a way to trade and that's what generates our income.
Whatever happens parliament needs a very thorough shake up. The general indecisiveness and internal infighting across and within parties has been unforgivable. The next general election will demonstrate the electorate's intense dissatisfaction.

Some good news as requestedsmile.
I am informed by my DH that MotoGp's contract with Honda to provide motorbike engines to MotoGP2 has come to an end and I am pleased to say that the new 3 year contract has gone to Triumph.
A Leicestershire company.??
Having until very recently owned a Triumph Motorcycle can say that we are very pleased for the company and wish them every success. ?

Alima Sun 10-Mar-19 21:19:40

Is it too early to start singing “la cukaracha”(sp). Good old Triumph, motorbikes, Heralds and possibly the Doreen bra?

varian Sun 10-Mar-19 21:28:34

It might be good news but nothing to do with brexit. One of my gds has got a place at her first choice school. Good news but nothing to do with brexit.
