Any fellow Leavers who would like to use this thread to post GOOD NEWS (away from Remainer doom & gloom)?

How about this for starters:

Norway’s $1 trillion (£753 billion) sovereign wealth fund – among the world’s most respected investors – has just confirmed it will boost its UK holdings. “Over time, our UK allocation will increase,” said Yngve Slyngstad, the Norwegian Fund’s CEO. “With our 30-year-plus time horizon, current political discussions don’t change our view,” he added, reaffirming his commitment to Britain even in the case of a no-deal Brexit.
This kind of clear-sighted, grown-up analysis contrasts starkly with the endless doom-mongering we get from subsidy-hungry politicos at the CBI. It’s precisely because Britain will thrive after Brexit that we attracted record foreign direct investment last year, beating the US, with only China attracting more. Even British start-ups raised almost £8  billion in venture capital during 2018 – some 70 per cent more than their French and German counterparts.
Boeing has opened its first manufacturing plant in Europe – in Sheffield. Technology-driven investment is piling in – not just to London but to Manchester and the North-East too. And, as Brexit-bashing stories about planes not flying are trumped by reality, investors from China to the Middle East are flocking to a country just judged by Forbes magazine as the “best place in the world to do business” for the second year in a row.
Yes, overseas investors are taking advantage of the weaker pound, which makes UK assets look attractive. But that’s how exchange rates work – which is why Europe’s monetary union is so crippling for many of its members.

Sorry for the long post but I’m not keen on links!

varian , a load of old nonsense dear. this is our happy thread, go do your idiotic moaning elsewhere.

I am just thrilled to know many Leavers and we are getting brexit, end of the story.

I feel most upbeat about leaving the unelected corrupt dictatorship EU. A big swindle.

Free Britain, this excites me

jura2 Mon 04-Mar-19 16:42:49

Indeed Crystaltipps- anyone who has bothered to read posts from many of us Remainers will know for sure that we are not JC supporters- at all. And many not Labour supporters either.

What’s Jeremy Corbyn got to do with anything? Those who criticise Brexit and the government are not necessarily his supporters. It’s like saying all Leavers must support UKIP. The only leaver I know is a racist and very dim, doesn’t mean they all are does it? Talk about sweeping generalisations.

Day6 Mon 04-Mar-19 16:30:46

Tee hee!

'Tis true, Urmston. grin

Urmstongran Mon 04-Mar-19 16:26:57

Thank you Day6 says she, blushing modestly. ☺️

Day6 Mon 04-Mar-19 16:24:58

"Perhaps we should pay less attention to little pockets of smug, complacent "I'm all right, Jackery" and try looking at the bigger picture"

The sainted Jeremy - leader of the Labour Party, smug and complacent? He was, until very recently, a Eurosceptic, committed to leaving the EU and ranting about it at every opportunity.

Make your mind up.

All the Leavers I know are decent, caring compassionate people.

andycameron69 Mon 04-Mar-19 16:23:45

so exciting , leaving the EU totally.

Great times for the UK.

I love the fun and positivity of this thread, I feel so uplifted and elated.

Kindest wishes

Now here is some good news- if you are a billionaire with money stashed in Tax Havens- like many in ERG and Tories- HURRAH

news.sky.com/story/amp/government-pulls-vote-on-tax-transparency-for-overseas-territories-after-brexit-11655095?fbclid=IwAR3BJitZjlDQlRhVCz91zLoF2K6KI5W-oer5u0PIv2sDo7vpHGKPcKteIlk

excellent news is too, that some will finally see that this is what it was all about from the start, for Cameron and his mates in the ERG.

May has announced £1.6 billion pounds to be spent in poorer towns in the North and Midlands regions to help boost their economies.

newnanny Mon 04-Mar-19 16:09:39

My sister is extremely left wing and has voted Labour all of her life. She voted to Leave EU because she hates the eye watering waste of money the EU spends on moving from Brussels to Strasbourg every month for just four days, for political reasons.

Urmstongran Mon 04-Mar-19 16:05:33

You’re right newnanny - 16 weekends in Paris! Macron is being kept very busy.

Urmstongran Mon 04-Mar-19 16:04:13

Too simplistic GillT57 it’s a bit like asking ‘do you still beat your wife?’

On a personal level I’d rather pay workers a decent (or even better) wage and pay more for my goods. But I am not heartless. I know some people have less money than I do and I cannot help but in know that I am fortunate to have this opinion.

Elsewhere on GN there is a thread on food banks. So it’s a conundrum to try to square your circle isn’t it?

newnanny Mon 04-Mar-19 16:03:24

Spain is in recession and Germany is teetering on the brink. Paris burns every weekend with yellow vest protesters. I think we are doing very well and will continue to do very well despite those who try to undermine every efforts government is making to secure a no deal.

In UK unemployment is down to lowest since 1974. More people in work and less on benefits. Pay has now gone up after years of pay freezes.

Urmstongran Mon 04-Mar-19 15:58:26

Lovely idea Day6 ??

Such good news GG13 for your family, employees and British business in general. ??

GillT57 Mon 04-Mar-19 15:56:10

Jabberwok I know this is supposed to be a fantasy post about the sunlit uplands of post Brexit Britain, but I have to call you out on your comments re cheap EU labour. People buy cheap flowers, clothes (Primark being one of the worst for exploitation of labour abroad) and then berate farmers for not paying the going rate for agricultural labourers. You can't have cheap goods and fair labour costs, so which will you choose?

Urmstongran Mon 04-Mar-19 15:55:45

Dear Jeremy jura2. ?

newnanny Mon 04-Mar-19 15:55:00

Taken from express today.

www.express.co.uk/news/politics/1095404/spring-statement-2019-philip-hammond-brexit-statement-public-spending-announcement

In his spring statement, Mr Hammond will have more freedom because of buoyant income tax receipts, as self-assessment returns which were paid in January are particularly strong.

If the threat of a no-deal exit were excluded, the Chancellor would spend some of this increased “insurance fund” to support strained public services.

AND

Mr Hammond will publish forecasts from the independent Office for Budget Responsibility which will show better than anticipated public finances over the next five years, despite cuts in the economic growth forecast for 2019.

So lots of good news about not all doom and gloom.

Urmstongran Mon 04-Mar-19 15:54:46

Maybe it’s time to agree to disagree.
Views are entrenched. We all want what is best for Britain and our families.

But we are where we are.

Which is why I started this thread. To find positive GOOD NEWS about leaving the E.U. There IS good news out there!! Let’s share some eh? Be joyous when we find it (surely we can all celebrate?) because we ARE leaving. ??

jura2 Mon 04-Mar-19 15:50:34

I know it is anecdotal - but I do not know a single left winger, or liberal - who voted for Leave - not a single one.

newnanny Mon 04-Mar-19 15:47:58

Mr Hammond has pledged to increase public spending should MPs approve Theresa May’s withdrawal treaty later this month.

A tax revenue windfall is another incentive for MPs to vote for Mrs May's revised withdrawal agreement.

In his October Budget, Mr Hammond stated he had £15.4bn worth of room for movement.

But the chancellor also warned part of that money may be required to aid the economy in the event of a turbulent no-deal Brexit.

It looks like Hammond has his war chest to help ease the economy if we do end up with no deal.

varian Mon 04-Mar-19 15:47:18

Perhaps we should pay less attention to little pockets of smug, complacent "I'm all right, Jackery" and try looking at the bigger picture.

Day6 Mon 04-Mar-19 15:46:09

A Brexit promoting group is not necessarily right wing Varian. Your views are well known and you will oppose any article which has positive views regarding Brexit.

You do appreciate many left wingers also voted Leave, don't you?

In the spirit of this thread, and by coincidence, Ian Dury's "Reasons to be Cheerful" has just come up on my shuffled tunes.

It's an omen!!!! grin

How apt. grin

Bank of England Governor Mark Carney, speaking at a "Financial TImes Live" event on 12th February, warned that -

"With fundamental uncertainty about future market access, UK investment hasn't grown since the referendum was called. And it's dramatically underperformed both history and its peers.

Similarly, a prolongation of global trade uncertainty could undermine the global expansion. And that impact would be magnified if financial markets moved such a possibility from their tail risk towards their central scenarios."

Most thinking people would pay more attention to the Governor of the Bank of England than the Daily Express.

Variant not every manufacturer in the UK exports.

Our Company is in sales, we import from Europe and outside Europe. Our EU suppliers are not worried about their ability to get their products to us, our suppliers outside EU will be in a position to lower their prices as we shall be outside the EU cartel.

Those of us "at the coal face" are in a position to see and hear what is going on, I have no need to post endless links and cut and paste.
