Any fellow Leavers who would like to use this thread to post GOOD NEWS (away from Remainer doom & gloom)?

How about this for starters:

Norway’s $1 trillion (£753 billion) sovereign wealth fund – among the world’s most respected investors – has just confirmed it will boost its UK holdings. “Over time, our UK allocation will increase,” said Yngve Slyngstad, the Norwegian Fund’s CEO. “With our 30-year-plus time horizon, current political discussions don’t change our view,” he added, reaffirming his commitment to Britain even in the case of a no-deal Brexit.
This kind of clear-sighted, grown-up analysis contrasts starkly with the endless doom-mongering we get from subsidy-hungry politicos at the CBI. It’s precisely because Britain will thrive after Brexit that we attracted record foreign direct investment last year, beating the US, with only China attracting more. Even British start-ups raised almost £8  billion in venture capital during 2018 – some 70 per cent more than their French and German counterparts.
Boeing has opened its first manufacturing plant in Europe – in Sheffield. Technology-driven investment is piling in – not just to London but to Manchester and the North-East too. And, as Brexit-bashing stories about planes not flying are trumped by reality, investors from China to the Middle East are flocking to a country just judged by Forbes magazine as the “best place in the world to do business” for the second year in a row.
Yes, overseas investors are taking advantage of the weaker pound, which makes UK assets look attractive. But that’s how exchange rates work – which is why Europe’s monetary union is so crippling for many of its members.

Sorry for the long post but I’m not keen on links!

To support British manufacturing, I also bought 2 radios (delivered today) from JL.
A Roberts stream 93i (cd/bluetooth/internet) and a Ruark R1 MK3 . JL did a price match and reduced the Ruark by £20 ???
Later, in Guildford, I bought a jumpsuit. It'll be great in the summer with white pumps/trainers or my tan suede ankle-strap wedges. Guess how much it was. ?

Fair Trade bananas always seem to be more expensive, so the farmers of 'ordinary' ones probably aren't getting a good price st all. Or the non FT ones are being produced by huge agribusinesses with economies of scale and poorly paid workers.

There's a whole debate here about 'efficient' food production and the needs of people to be able to make a living. What price 'cheap food' if it is at the expense of the environment and individuals' wellbeing?

Jalima1108 Sat 02-Mar-19 16:40:39

Don't be sad, buying bananas and grapes is keeping farmers in work in what are probably much poorer countries than ours.

I think that supermarkets must sell bananas as a 'loss-leader' because they are so cheap - at least I do hope that the farmer is getting a good price.

GabriellaG54 Sat 02-Mar-19 16:39:45

They're not wrapped in cellophane, they're just as you see in the photo, in a tray and put in a brown paper bag after purchase.

GabriellaG54 Sat 02-Mar-19 16:36:05

No, not at all MawBroon, locally grown and £3 for two trays.
Alas sad I can't say the same for the hand of bananas or the HUGE bunch of black grapes ?(only £2 per lb)
I shop for fresh fruit and veg there 3 times a week.

Henning Wehn, German comedian on QT who sensibly appreciates the utter futility of a second referendum.

“If two years ago you felt that the country was run by unelected European Union bureaucrats, well I don’t know what would have changed your opinion on that one over the past two years!”

So it's not only Brits with this view. grin

Mind you, May seems to be telling the EU we NEED a deal. Silly woman.

She'd be playing a much stronger hand if she told Tusk, "Come up with something in our interests by next Tuesday matey, or we are off." And mean it.

Gransnetters on this anti-EU thread would have put him straight by now.

Trump has many, many faults, (too many to list) but can you imagine him going back to Brussels time and time again with a begging bowl? He does put America first.

paddyann Sat 02-Mar-19 14:58:20

they'll just have chnged the flag on them they do taht with Scottish produce all the time, its marketed as British and with a Union Jack ......I wont buy it if its been defaced in this way ,its not fair to SCOTTISH farmers and producers

MawBroon Sat 02-Mar-19 14:47:33

British raspberries in February ???

varian Sat 02-Mar-19 14:45:46

But surely these raspberries were grown in an EU country?

GabriellaG54 Sat 02-Mar-19 14:34:40

My good news (as a leaver) is that I have just bought the tastiest plumpest British raspberries from the 3 days a week fruit and veg stall in Godalming. They taste just like those I picked from the canes as a child.
Am-az-ing. grin

Hi andyC great you’ve joined our merry band - good to have you on board!

I’m only going to ignore those who post negative comments or try to engage in (ever depressing) Brexit debate.

GOOD NEWS on this forum will lift the spirits of us Leavers. If it’s on the news or in a newspaper come in and share it and you won’t even be asked for ‘links and evidence’.

Oh joyous isn’t it?

There is no such thing as "the" EU, there are member states. The representatives are elected, unlike our unelected House of Lords. Why don't you criticise our own genuinely undemocratic institutions? In what way will your life be improved?

andycameron69 Sat 02-Mar-19 13:04:09

this is a great happiness thread

and so exciting to leave the unelected EU corrupt controlling scam

varian Sat 02-Mar-19 13:01:48

Perhaps these are the bad things they think the "evil" EU is responsible for

andycameron69 Sat 02-Mar-19 12:38:59

be fab to leave and thrive being independent and great britain be in control of our great Nation.

Not dictated and being a vassal state of corrupt unelected EU demons

Greta Sat 02-Mar-19 12:00:25

Andy, you keep referring to the EU as 'evil'. Could you please tell us how you, personally, have experienced this evilness?

MaizieD Sat 02-Mar-19 11:36:26

If we don’t engage on THIS forum they will leave us in peace (perhaps) to enjoy sharing the positive aspects we get to hear about Brexit.

Definitely delusional if you think we're going to stay off this thread. We're all ears to hear about the positives.

jura2 Sat 02-Mar-19 11:28:46

yes, dear, we will celebrate when we become vassals of Trump- and industry and agriculture are decimated- all the unemployed will have lots of time on their hands to go out and celebrate, I'm sure.

andycameron69 Sat 02-Mar-19 10:52:37

very excited to exit EU. big celebrations soon

jura2 Sat 02-Mar-19 10:49:10

and straight into the vile hands of Trump and others - vassals rather than full partners at the top table - hurrah
