Any fellow Leavers who would like to use this thread to post GOOD NEWS (away from Remainer doom & gloom)?
How about this for starters:
Norway’s $1 trillion (£753 billion) sovereign wealth fund – among the world’s most respected investors – has just confirmed it will boost its UK holdings. “Over time, our UK allocation will increase,” said Yngve Slyngstad, the Norwegian Fund’s CEO. “With our 30-year-plus time horizon, current political discussions don’t change our view,” he added, reaffirming his commitment to Britain even in the case of a no-deal Brexit.
This kind of clear-sighted, grown-up analysis contrasts starkly with the endless doom-mongering we get from subsidy-hungry politicos at the CBI. It’s precisely because Britain will thrive after Brexit that we attracted record foreign direct investment last year, beating the US, with only China attracting more. Even British start-ups raised almost £8 billion in venture capital during 2018 – some 70 per cent more than their French and German counterparts.
Boeing has opened its first manufacturing plant in Europe – in Sheffield. Technology-driven investment is piling in – not just to London but to Manchester and the North-East too. And, as Brexit-bashing stories about planes not flying are trumped by reality, investors from China to the Middle East are flocking to a country just judged by Forbes magazine as the “best place in the world to do business” for the second year in a row.
Yes, overseas investors are taking advantage of the weaker pound, which makes UK assets look attractive. But that’s how exchange rates work – which is why Europe’s monetary union is so crippling for many of its members.
Sorry for the long post but I’m not keen on links!
Certain people on here are sour in the extreme.
Hi everyone - just back we went out for a meal - sorry, hadn’t disappeared!
Anyway, whilst out I realised I’d been too sensitive. I think I was shocked to be honest, as hitherto any private messages I’d had have always been lovely ones (❤️ GNers!). It was mean rather than nasty.
I just need to toughen up ha! I’m sure I’m not the first and sadly won’t be the last, to open a message that’s not pleasant.
Ah well, in the words of Gloria Gaynor “I will Survive”.
?
Urmongstrong I think you might be a drama queen.
p.s. Meant to say “thank you” ladies - both R and L - for being so lovely & supportive when I posted earlier. You are all good eggs!
You're right GG but don't worry, dear, with a bit of support from Gransnet you might get over your SOH deficit.
You might be right Gonegirl. I’m obviously a sensitive soul !

Sorry to read about this Urmstongran, is this from a reletavily new poster?
Sending best wishes & a virtual hug
Just seen what happened Urmstongran, and I am so sorry that you had this happen to you. ? Please don't let it bother you, whoever sent it just isn't worth the time and effort x
Sorry to read that someone has sent an upsetting message UG. I rarely agree with you on political issues, but 100% with you on this one.
Let it wash over you. Don't waste another minute thinking about it.
Nope. But honestly Bridgeit I’m over it now. I (wrongly) thought private messages were for support or a kindness in some way. We live & learn!
Anyway you are very kind and I appreciate it. x
I don't always agree with you pov Urmstongran but I'm sorry that you received an unpleasant pm from a poster who was too cowardly to say what they thought out on the open forum. It says far more about them than you though.
Thanks lovely ladies. Appreciate your kindness.
Tomorrow is another day!
Urmstongran
Name and shame. Bullies who feel they have the right to PM upsetting messages should be outed.
I'll bet whoever it was, is quaking in their boots now, worried in case you do name and shame them!
Urmstrong I didn't mean about the pm (drama queen thing). I meant for the brow mopping you go in for.
Don't kick me!!!
not sure what the policy on GN re posting a pm for all to see. But totally agree it is out of order. However just saying it happened, without further detail, leaves an air of suspicion and vague accustations which is unpleasant.
Perhaps you could post the pm, without naming- for all to judge the severity?
No, let it go. I said yesterday I had probably been overly sensitive. I was surprised a private message would be used in this way, but I’m over it now.
Thanks everyone!
Another poster, long standing, also received a very unpleasant pm message some months ago. She referred to it directly on the thread that had been active when it was sent and, I seem to recall that she named the poster, but I could be wrong. I do know that the pm was forwarded onto to GNHQ for them to deal with though.
That might be the way to go Urmstongran?
If it is the poster I was thinking of, Chewbacca, she did not name the person who sent the pm but I think that GN dealt with it.
Perhaps it would be a good idea to report it Urmston
Thanks Jalima, I knew it had happened but couldn't recall the full details. In any event, it's something that should never happen.
We are on the edge of the precipice, living in historic times, so we have a whole page of posts about a PM !!!!
I was at a Branch meeting last night and an unholy row broke out between 3 members about who said what about whom, leading to a walkout and early closure of the meeting. I think it is a symptom of how powerless we all are to shape events, have some input or control over this mess, individually or collectively. By all means rail against our so called 'leaders' but don't take it out on each other here on Gransnet.
Do we Brexit in 15 days then? Clear as mud now. On a positive note I have emailed my MP with my concerns. He is one of the good guys, Kit Malthouse. I know some constituencies are talking of de-selecting their Remainer MPs as this views are polar opposites. Come on fellow Leavers, think positively!
Well said Granny23 take a recommend ??
It’s such a mess.
Last night parliament voted to reject leaving the EU without a deal. This means that the will of the people, as expressed by their elected representatives, is that the UK should not leave the UK without a deal.
However, as things stand, unless legislation is passed, the UK will leave the EU on the 29th of March as an act of law.
i am most thrilled excited leave with no deal wto terms.
Mays deal stinks and is hellish for GB and it is remaining in
traitor mayhem the corrupt PM liar
no deal is the legal exit
