LBC are reporting that SB lawyers are trying to verify that her new born son has died

A very well put suggestion Jalima.

EllanVannin Thu 14-Mar-19 14:55:23

Seemingly there are a lot of Syrian refugees in Ethiopia because the Ethiopians have banned them from begging.
What a strange country to send refugees where its peoples are already impoverished.
There have been more and more refugees in recent months.

EllanVannin Thu 14-Mar-19 15:06:03

The Ethiopians are a proud race of people and it's not fair nor right that they should be burdened with these people. It's their deputy head of immigration who made the ruling about begging.
It sounds like another country ruled by twits !

Jalima1108 Thu 14-Mar-19 15:10:07

It depends by the definition of a lot of Syrian refugees.

There are a few hundred who made their own way there some time ago, some are working and presumably some have no means of support so are begging.
Some are working in restaurants etc - Ethiopia is very poor but not everyone there is impoverished; perhaps the refugees are encroaching on the 'turf' of Ethiopian beggars?

Who are you saying sent them?

These few hundred are a tiny proportion of the approximately 11 million Syrians who have been displaced by this war.

Nicenanny3 Thu 14-Mar-19 15:24:15

Jalimal I don't do anything to help them and have never claimed that I have.

EllanVannin Thu 14-Mar-19 15:26:56

I don't know who sent them, but this was news at the beginning of the year.
We probably have about 10,000 Syrian refugees with a figure of 20,000 reached by 2020.
There are only so many that we can take here though I can't understand where they're all going to live, etc.

EllanVannin Thu 14-Mar-19 15:30:46

Apparently Ethiopia has a long history of taking in refugees so their government would have " invited " them during the Syrian civil war of 2011.

Lily65 Thu 14-Mar-19 18:04:58

Have you ever spoken to a refugee from Syria or elsewhere?

Jalima1108 Thu 14-Mar-19 18:23:50

And for those who think it's all over, on my FB page:

Today's news from The White Helmets:

12 people including seven children and a woman were killed, and 44 others including 17 women and four children were injured so far, after four airstrikes by the Russian warplanes targeted the residential neighbourhoods in #Idlib city this yesterday afternoon.
Our #WhiteHelmets working to retrieve the victims and extinguishing the fires that erupted after air raids. #Syria

EllanVannin Thu 14-Mar-19 18:42:17

I knew it wasn't over.

EllanVannin Thu 14-Mar-19 18:46:43

Weren't the US involved in airstrikes last weekend ?

EllanVannin Thu 14-Mar-19 18:51:55

I thought that Putin was the one kicking off over the US, UK and France's airstrikes ?

Talk about do as I say not as I do.

notanan2 Thu 14-Mar-19 19:15:59

We probably have about 10,000 Syrian refugees with a figure of 20,000 reached by 2020.

In 2018 it was 7,444
In total.
From ALL countries

Stop posting nonsense numbers that you dont understand!!

Jalima1108 Thu 14-Mar-19 19:21:56

When you say we I am assuming that you mean the UK has taken in some refugees EllanVannin - probably a few hundred from Syria.
Out of approximately 11 million displaced people, many of whom do want to go home and rebuild their country.

Jalima1108 Thu 14-Mar-19 19:23:56

I should add, though, that the UK is supporting Syrian refugees in camps by providing monetary aid, in fact more than most countries.

paddyann Thu 14-Mar-19 19:34:39

Refugees are being given the right to work in Scotland ,makes sense surely when people have qualifications and are prevented from earning a living using them. And BEFORE someone says they're taking OUR jobs ..if anyone wanted the jobs there wouldn't be vacancies

Jalima1108 Thu 14-Mar-19 19:45:06

I've never understood why, if they have the qualifications they cannot work - if in the NHS then presumably they could take the same English examination as other overseas applicants.

Lily65 Fri 15-Mar-19 08:40:17

paddyann, I didn't know that. Its all wrong that refugees and asylum seekers are not allowed to work. They survive on a pittance and they want to contribute.
