What do you think about Boris Johnson's pronouncements regarding the investigations into historical sexual abuse?
Does the attempted clarification of facts to establish the guilt or otherwise regarding a long dead politician or celebrity need to be pursued, as there can be no trial or any meaningful result for the abused, or should we be using that money to help fight knife crime and protect people today?

I think it is very telling that some posters on GN like to boast about their superior intellect with no attempt to even disguise it as sarcasm.

The copious threads and posts that have stated they are more educated because they voted Remain in the Referendum is on practically every ruddy Brexit related thread and even those that were never intended to be about Brexit but got hijacked.

Would I say ' I'm guessing that those who are so insecure as to make such boasts have achieved very little since.'?

No I just think they are arrogant.

Who has ever said they were "more educated because they voted remain"?
I think you may be misinterpreting demographic statistics.

wow love a cheeky sarcastic comment...what a scream

!!!!

andycameron69 Fri 22-Mar-19 18:00:41

I have had many comments at me called thick stupid for voting leave. However being the dashing silly handsome devil that I am, and good natured, none of that bothers me, I rather find it entertaining!!!!!

If you trawl the threads, suzied you will find many posts to that effect..

Me - I have no axe to grind, being a Remainer but embarrassed by some of the comments made about those who voted Brexit

varian Fri 22-Mar-19 18:24:16

I have never ever heard anyone say, or post on GN or anywhere else that they were better educated because they voted remain. That would be nonsense. I have not even seen anyone claim that they voted remain because they were better educated.

However numerous studies after the 2016 referendum found a correlation between a low level of education and the likelihood of voting leave. I have never heard anyone suggest that all leave voters were poorly educated or stupid, indeed we have had numerous posts on GN saying things like "I got a double first from Cambridge and I voted leave" . That sort of person is part of the Leave voter group, but obviously not typical.

Well, I have not read all the threads but I've never seen that.

icanhandthemback Fri 22-Mar-19 19:39:20

I have seen posts from Remainers who have tried to demonstrate that the Leavers were less well educated so I guess both sides are guilty of this in one way or another. I rarely talk about my education but I did find myself putting forth the argument that I was substantially educated, as were many of my friends who voted to leave.

M0nica Sat 23-Mar-19 18:05:39

It is not the education or the age of the individual but the average attainment of everybody in a group that matters.

And whether we like it or not the average education level of those votingleave was lower that that of remainers.

That is not a value judgement it is statement of what a sum of the education level of people in one group is, including the members with PhDs

icanhandthemback posts " I rarely talk about my education but I did find myself putting forth the argument that I was substantially educated, as were many of my friends who voted to leave."

Yes, and folk like you and your well educated friends are at one end of the educational range of leave voters.

That does not negate the finding from many surveys that the average educational level of Leave voters was significantly lower that the average of Remain voters and there was an inverse correlation between educational attainment and the likelihood of voting Leave.

Well does this negate anything?

I left school with no qualification accept RSA English and Typing and I voted Remain.

Does that put me in the Remaining intellectuals camp or the uneducated Leave camp?

The reason why a poster posted :-

" I got a double first from Cambridge and I voted leave" . Is because that poster was making the point that the Remain posters have stated ever since the Referendum result was announced the Leave voters were uneducated.

Not only has thread after thread on Brexit for almost 3 ruddy years seen Remain posters call Leave voters uneducated they throw in racist, xenophobic and a lot of them believe should also have their democratic right to vote taken away from them because they are old and are going to die anyway.

Uneducated, racist and xenophobic are polite terms compared to some of the name calling.

like what POGS? What names?

Labaik Sun 24-Mar-19 20:05:22

Did it just say on the news that Johnson drove to Chequers today not wearing a seat belt? Obviously thinks he's above the law....

Nanalex Sun 24-Mar-19 20:10:54

My husband says yes Labaik, Boris did ... what a silly and irresponsible thing to do ..

varian Sun 24-Mar-19 20:15:28

There is a difference between the average for a group and any individual member of that same group. You do not need to have a double first in statistics, or even a GCSE in statistics to understand that.

Deedaa Sun 24-Mar-19 20:46:56

I can't offer an opinion on the level of education of the average leave voter because I honestly don't know many. Most of my friends are remainers and tend to be teachers, doctors and scientists, with the occasional actor or painter.

M0nica Sun 24-Mar-19 20:52:16

I do not think anyone has said that leave voters are uneducated. What has been said is that on average their formal education stopped at a lower level than those of remainers. Not at all the same thing.

Nor is anyone making any judgements on either group as a result of that educational difference. Simply stating it is there. For all we know those who left school with fewer qualifications and voted leave are all auto-didacts, and far better informally educated than the majority of leave voters with their formal attainments.

I cannot understand why people cannot read facts for facts but have to immediately decide they are being judged or undermined or decorate the facts with lots of constructs that are irrelevant to the facts and not part of them.

The Boris lookalike we saw on the march did have the grace to apologise to us all on Boris's behalf. He was quite convincing until he did that. The real Boris would never apologise for anything.

maryeliza54 Sun 24-Mar-19 23:44:14

Front page of Mondays DT - quote from Boris. WTAF?

Ginny42 Mon 25-Mar-19 00:44:18

I was just about to post the same. How can anyone take this man seriously? He was of course either just arriving or leaving Chequers where the Tory party were discussing whether or not May's deal had a cat in hell's chance of getting through. We'll know soon enough.

Grandad1943 Mon 25-Mar-19 06:53:38

Boris Johnson is nothing short of a complete Buffoon. Should it be that he replaces Theresa May as leader of the Tory party, Jeremy Corbyn will very shortly after that be handed the keys to ten Downing Street.

maryeliza54 Mon 25-Mar-19 07:49:41

Grandad please don’t call him a buffoon - tbat makes him sound harmless. He’s an absolute s**t and a danger to everything that is decent in our society.

Grandad1943 Mon 25-Mar-19 08:01:20

OK maryeliza54, in future I will address him as Boris (Big Sh*t) Johnson. grin

Lily65 Mon 25-Mar-19 08:22:02

What on earth is that on the Telegraph?

Grandad1943 Mon 25-Mar-19 08:28:10

Lily65, it's a Big Sh*t in a car. confused

I had better get off to work before I get banned. ?
