Septima I agree with your post if we leave or stay (although I voted Leave) day to day we won't notice any difference.

trisher Tue 19-Mar-19 10:37:03

Sunseeker I am saying that the research currently being undertaken is with support from the EU, using a range of people including researchers from the EU. We will no longer be part of that. Of course they will share but that isn't the same as being at the heart of research and drug trials. And yes there may be eventually be relationships set up, but it will take time. And anyone who posts about how much things have improved in the UK should at least acknowledge that it was with the help of the EU, help we are cutting ourselves off from.

sunseeker Tue 19-Mar-19 10:25:24

trisher are you saying that no research will be done in UK and that the EU will keep any discoveries it finds to itself?

Cherrytree59 Tue 19-Mar-19 10:07:38

The wringing of hands never won a war.
There has to be a positive outlook and self belief.
Where is the self belief in our United Kingdom.
If it does comes to pass that we do indeed leave the European Union, would it not be better for the leavers and remainers put all our shoulders to the proverbial wheel for the good of the UK as whole.

It seems at moment that some people are happy to tell the world that the UK is no longer the strong economically viable nation.
The UK needs talking up on the World stage not down!

For goodness’s sake I wasn’t saying it hadn’t got anything to do with EU collaboration. It’s just GOOD NEWS for British people to share and rejoice in, innit?

I think it’s good to post any positive news, that’s all. It’s not about ‘them’ and ‘us’. Never was. It’s about sharing positive information that affects us, the British people. What’s not good about that?

Anyway more GOOD NEWS (and again, from the Graun a favourite newspaper with Remainers just to show how unbiased I am with my sources ?):

The number of people in work jumped by 473,00 over the last year, to 32.71 million.

Most of this was full-time jobs (up 424,000), plus 49,000 more part-time workers.

GillS Kindness, compassion, compromise, decency and dignity. If we leave with all these intact we can start the healing process which our wonderful country so desperately needs.

Well said. I totally agree. We need decisions before we can start the healing process. We are strong people who have overcome so much in our history. Whatever is thrown at us, we will get through it. I just want decisions to be made, and whatever they are, we can begin ....... onward and upward !!!

sunseeker to imagine we have made progress treating breast cancer on our own is an indication that people really don't understand the relationship that exists between us and the rest of the EU. The EU has been funding research for years, and it is partly that research which has led to improved survival rates. By cutting ourselves off from that funding we effectively cut ourselves off from improving survival rates for other cancers. But I suppose we will live our lives, just that some lives will not be as long as they might be.

sunseeker Tue 19-Mar-19 09:42:18

Why is all good news because of the EU and all bad news is because of Brexit? I usually avoid these threads as I don't presume to know all the answers.

I agree with Septima, we will continue to live our lives no matter what happens. Nothing anyone says on any forum will make the slightest bit of difference to the outcome

Urmstongran Tue 19-Mar-19 09:39:38

Maybe not entirely.

However it still stands that Britain is doing well in that field. Good enough for me to be happy to read it!

??

trisher Tue 19-Mar-19 09:35:52

I wonder how much of the good news about breast cancer survival could be linked directy to research funded by the EU?Brexit is going to mean a number of problems for cancer. These include the possible inability to participate in drug trials, particularly for rare cancers and childhood cancers (where numbers in any one country are too low to stage individual trials), the removal of research to other countries (the EU funded a lot of cancer research), and problems sharing data about cancer and treatment. That's without the possible problem with access to drugs of course.
Any way that's just to balance your good news which might anyway be entirely thanks to the EU.

Urmstongran Tue 19-Mar-19 09:35:36

The voice of reason Septima take a recommend ??

Septimia Tue 19-Mar-19 09:33:07

No matter what happens about Brexit or how badly we are governed, all of us ordinary folk will go on (and go on going on) looking after and loving our families and friends just as we have since time immemorial.

Wobbles Tue 19-Mar-19 09:08:12

Thank you Urmstongran

crystaltipps Tue 19-Mar-19 09:06:53

A lot of medical advances in the U.K. are due to the cooperation we have with the EU in terms of academic research and treatment. But the head in the sand people won’t accept that, it must be a benefit of Brexit ( ?) ( no foreigners in the health services obvs)

Grandad1943 Tue 19-Mar-19 08:49:54

Again a failure of this useless government, this time in the NHS.

Grandad1943 Tue 19-Mar-19 08:48:05

Yes, but on Cancer treatment overall there is this

Well said Wobbles take the first recommend of the day ??

Urmstongran Tue 19-Mar-19 08:38:52

More GOOD NEWS to share.

This, today from the Graun’s health policy editor:
Death rates from breast cancer are falling faster in Britain than in any other of the six most populous countries in Europe, research shows.

The rate of death from the disease has fallen by 17.7% since 2010-2014 thanks to screening, earlier diagnosis and better treatment, a Europe-wide study has found.

Wobbles Tue 19-Mar-19 08:32:25

It should read 'be' positive.
I guess the sand scratched the lenses of my rose coloured glasses grin

Wobbles Tue 19-Mar-19 08:15:52

I agree we are in a deep constitutional crisis due to TM not forming a cross party commission to deal with Brexit, it's issues and its negotiations.
I am not wearing rose coloured glasses and my head is definitely not in the sand. But I'm sick of people telling me and others on this thread I'm not allowed to positive about the future.

Grandad1943 Tue 19-Mar-19 07:50:12

crystaltipps, you stated the true Brexit crisis situation very well I believe in your post @ 07:23 today (19/03/19).

This thread is a "head in the sand outlet" for those who would rather just run away from the true very deep constitutional crisis that Britain now finds itself in.

That has been brought about by the worst government Britain has had since the Chamberlin led Tory administration collapsed in 1940.

Totally useless.

andycameron69 Tue 19-Mar-19 07:29:34

out we go proper Brexit by law, WTO no deal with corrupt EU

grin

crystaltipps Tue 19-Mar-19 07:23:55

Let’s face it, there isn’t much “good news about Brexit” to get excited about with the current government crisis, so pretending that deals with Lichtenstein and the like are good news, when in fact it verges on the desperate, and veil the fact that Brexit will make us worse off, immigration will remain the same, just from different countries, our government is spectacularly useless and will be unable to deliver what it’s supporters are expecting, plus make the U.K. weaker and even more of a laughing stock. No I’m not a general gloom and doom merchant, I just don’t look through rose coloured Brexit specs. Please don’t use your bullying tactics and name calling to try to stop anyone pointing out the ridiculousness of some of this so called “good news”.

Urmstongran Tue 19-Mar-19 07:12:30

The Independent newspaper is Remainer through & through. All gloom and doom about Brexit. Never has one good thing to say about Brexit hence the Remainers love it. The Independent organises all the anti Brexit marches and people gatherings in London.

I never read it as it’s SO depressing!

crystaltipps Tue 19-Mar-19 07:04:49

Brexit is forcing poor countries into unequal trade deals according to the Independent rather than benefit them.
The EU already has completely free trade deals with the worlds poorest countries.
