Hi everyone -

If you are at all politically minded and would like to share any GOOD NEWS about Brexit, or would just like to post some optimistic thoughts - this is the thread to love.
❤️

Most of us are weary of the gloom and doom on GN! Let’s share positive news and views. Its time to look for compromise, be kind and inclusive with one another if we can. Life’s too short to be scared or miserable!

Stop peeping. C’mon in! We’d love to hear from you.

One of my neighbours works in medical research, her company is moving to Frankfurt.

Good post smile
Although the British people are generally pessimistic, it seems to be a national trait, once this matter is settled I think they will be more enthusiastic going forward.

I have only ever had one Krisp Kreme doughnut.

It was to die for.

(This is relevant -from further up the thread.)

Go to this website and read the Cancer Research UK report. It's 55 pages long and I don't pretend to understand all of it. However, read the introduction and check out p. 17 which describes different scenarios for leaving projected to the year 2028. Then skip to the conclusion and I think you will have a fair idea of how this organisation perceives the likely outcomes.

With the greatest respect Ginny42 who on earth would want to wade through an article with projections contained therein for the next 10 years?

According to Remainers ‘business needs clarity’. We’ve not even left yet (if we ever do) so how on earth can anyone predict what ‘could’ happen in the next 10 months - let alone 10 years!

Oh well...I missed out there GoneGirl (sigh)
I'll have to try one next time.
Any recommendations as to best flavour? grin

Oh, definitely strawberries and cream one! Want one NOW!!!! grin

GabriellaG54 Tue 19-Mar-19 12:17:26

I definitely wouldn't buy weird fish (or any fish) from countries mentioned upthread.
I only buy Atlantic cod, nor would I buy goods from a disadvantaged/ poor country simply to boost their economy, unless it was something I would normally buy from them.
I like locally (UK) grown fruit, veg and flowers.

Wow! That's some endorsement. I guess I'll have to give in and buy one...maybe two..hmm??

Ginny42 Tue 19-Mar-19 12:52:06

UrmstonGran, the question was asked whether the UK would be excluded from sharing EU medical research post Brexit, especially cancer treatment.

I said it was a long document and suggested reading relevant parts for those with serious concerns.

BTW it contains some very good news.

Urmstongran Tue 19-Mar-19 13:10:38

Ah Ginny42 I really didn’t mean to sound so dismissive. I do apologise.

Your intentions are sound so for that have a recommend. ??

I do think though that projecting so far ahead into the future must be a very difficult thing to do. Whether the news is favourable or otherwise.

GillT57 Tue 19-Mar-19 13:14:13

I am not going to comment in a negative way, but just a gentle reminder; those of us who wish to remain in the EU are not anti-British/doomsayers/unpatriotic/left wing etc., etc., to the contrary, it is because we care for the country, our families and our friends that we wish to remain part of the EU and enjoy the advantages. Thank you, carry on .

GabriellaG54 Tue 19-Mar-19 13:16:09

Ouch!
That hurt...??
Oh well...maybe I'll just look in the shop window and dream...???

GabriellaG54 Tue 19-Mar-19 13:19:19

That was to Urmstongran
? ? ?

Urmstongran Tue 19-Mar-19 13:23:14

Good point Gill57 and fair enough. Thank you.

It’s just that there IS a lot of negativity around, from some of those who voted to Remain and whilst I respect their viewpoint I do think it’s great to have this little thread.

❤️

Urmstongran Tue 19-Mar-19 13:24:41

You enjoy them all the more then GG54

Despite Brexit the unemployment rate still continues fall.
It is now at its lowest rate for 44 yrs.
44yrs hmm- ?

Lily65 Tue 19-Mar-19 14:42:10

Just had a quick peek at the News. How anybody can interpret any of this as a good and optimistic scenario is beyond me. Words like crisis and chaos don't make me feel safe.

varian Tue 19-Mar-19 15:10:57

The shameless redefinition of unemployment by the government means that someone on a zero hours contract or someone who only works one hour per week is removed from the unemployment figures.

DoraMarr Tue 19-Mar-19 15:46:43

GillT57 I’m with you. I hate that the whole Brexit debate has divided us, and on such stereotypical lines. I am proud to be British, just as I am proud to be English, and a Brummie, and I am proud to be a citizen of Europe too.

jura2 Tue 19-Mar-19 15:57:27

Brummies are citizens of the World - be proud.
I used to live in Leicester, and that was very very special and unique- and absolutely loved it.

GillS Tue 19-Mar-19 16:13:44

Sparklefizz, we are definitely on the same page and whatever the future holds, stay or leave, with all the positive thinkers on this thread (thanks Urmstongran) we will go forward with a cheery step and goodwill to all.

Low investment reflects the broader economic picture.

The U.K. was a leading G7 economy in terms of growth before the referendum. Two years later, it is at the bottom.
