I hope that Leave voters have learned a lot in the last three years but if they haven't then they will be able to vote out again if we have a Final Say

I think you are extremely arrogant to suggest Leave voters needed to 'learn' anything.

If anything Leave voters have been angered by attempts to prevent Brexit.

All we have learned is that it's hard to get out, most of the UK parliament are self serving and have not wanted to honour the referendum result, and that Remain voters have persisted in taunting and rubbishing Leavers from the day the majority voted to leave the EU.

My resolve is as strong as ever, if not more so because of the appalling sneering and abuse Leave voters have had to contend with - and still do, and on GN from you in particular varian.

I have never abused anyone on GN Day6 but I have pointed out much that I and others have learned in the last three years. I pay you the compliment of assuming that you and other leave voters are also capable of learning. Only keeping your head in the sand and your fingers in your ears could prevent you from learning.

FPTP is the best way not PR.
PR governments are always falling out with each other and end up quite often with extreme parties, like in Germany at the present moment ( where the second largest is the extreme rightwing.)

The survey of a 30,000-strong online panel found that only 41 per cent of those who said they do not read a newspaper voted Leave (versus 52 per cent of the general population).

Press Gazette analaysis has found that overall, national press coverage was strongly weighted in favour of Leave in the month leading up to the referendum.

Four national newspaper titles were found to be strongly biased in favour of Leave through their choice of front-page stories: the Daily Express, Daily Mail, Daily Telegraph and The Sun.

Data from the British Election Study found that some 70 per cent of Sun and Daily Express readers voted Leave in the referendum, followed by 66 per cent of Daily Mail readers, 55 per cent of Daily Telegraph readers and 44 per cent of Daily Mirror readers.

A report by NatCen, called Understanding the Leave Vote, said: “The balance of pro- and anti- Leave positions of the newspapers was important given how many people read them, particularly the popular press. It is interesting to note that, when it came to the EU Referendum vote, people were more likely to follow the position of the newspaper they read than the political party they identify with.”

We have a minority government being run by extremists in the DUP and ERG so not much of an advert for FPTP.

My last post was for another thread (referendums and elections thread) . I posted it here accidentally, but I do think it is quite relevant to the way Theresa May has behaved. She was aware of the powerful influence of the press.

She has regarded the Daily Mail as her scriptwriter because it has a large readership and its online presence is formidable. The last editor Paul Dacre, was the first member of the press to be invited into Downing Street after her election and she has focussed herself on what the Daily Mail especially want her to say and do.

Although she did indentify as a Remainer before the referendum, she was very lukewarm in her campaigning and I don't think she ever actually had any strong convictions at that time, but thought that Remain would win and it would aid her ambition to follow Cameron.

Since the referendum went the other way she has gone overboard to "honour the result of the referendum and deliver brexit". She is like a religious convert who has to be even more devout and pious than everyone else. As she has become more and more painted into a corner by her own failure to reach out and persuade, she seems to have got more blinkered and more fanatical, to the extent that I now believe she is actually prepared to see us crash out of the EU with no deal, regardless of the harm it would do to the country.

I just hope that our MPs find the backbone to do the right thing and parliament is able to stop her in time.

Whatever you may feel about leave or remain you should be seriously worried by Mrs May's speech. We live in a Parliamentary democracy with a Prime Minister not a President. The woman has delusions of grandeur. Her speech never once mentioned her party, nor her government. She only referred to "You, the public" and herself "I have negotiated". A Prime Minister is there to lead a party and a government and if they cannot do that they should go. She evidently sees herself as the Nation's saviour. It's seriously worrying.

Who mentioned unelected groups? And exactly how is Mrs may leading her party? They're in such disarray it's ludicrous. The attorney general contradicts the Prime Minister, half the cabinet vote against the government and Boris is keeping quiet. It's a shambles!

At the EU leaders summit tonight (21/03/19) Theresa May is told to sit outside the main meeting while the other leaders decide on whether to grant the extension to artical fifty which May has desperately requested

So, this is taking back control.

What a laughing stock this government has made of Britain in front of the rest of the world.

Sky News are reporting this evening (21/03/19) that all MPs are being advised to increase their personal security precautions and to only take taxis as transport to and from Parliament.

The above is all due to Mays attack on all MPs during her "address to the nation" yesterday.

Totally disgusting. May should resign as soon as practically possible following her return from the Brussels EU leaders meeting.
