Some of the pressures faced by the E27 in giving consideration to a long extension is to try to balance the tension between the damage a crash out would do to their businesses and voter against an extension which means the U.K. would continue as an (apparent) reluctant member and the EU being unable to give its entire focus on the years business, like electing new leaders.
At the moment a long extension looks most likely giving greater stability to all.

An article by a French publication that suggests that May had a poor understanding of the working of the EU, and the fact that she ignored advice from Sir Ivan Rogers not to invoke Article 50 until she had a clear plan ratified if possible by parliament.

Yes, I make no assumptions about any or all leave voters, even though I have heard many say they have changed their minds. Some feel ashamed that they believed the lies, but I certainly don't think leave voters need to feel ashamed. It is the Leave campaigners who lied and cheated who should be apologising to us all.
