What do we think of Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party?

Why indeed has the Brexit Broadcasting Corporation given liar Farage so much airtime, not just recently, but for years?

This man tried and failed seven times to be elected as an MP. He is a lazy dishonest MEP but in the years leading up to the EU referendum the BBC allowed him to be on the Question Time Panel no less than 29 times! Only one other MEP was ever invited - the ultra brexiter Tory Daniel Hannan (another liar -the one who said "no-one is talking about leaving the single market).

For many years QT was a well respected discussion program but is now beyond the pale. It stinks of malign influence and corruption. By actively promoting Farage, the BBC has seriously damaged this country and should be held to account.

He was stumped on QT when someone asked him about WTO- he didn't seem to know much about other countries trading blocs. Came across as a puffed up buffoon. Why does the BBC give him so much airtime? Why no Green Party representative?

From every prediction, we will be definitely worse off leaving with no deal than remaining in the EU. Even diehard Brexit leaders admit this will be the case. We were promised it would be so easy to get a good deal, we wouldn't have all those pesky migrants, everything else would be the same, better even, loads more money for public services, everything hunky dory. None of this will happen, but still the true believers worship the messiah/demagogue and refuse to believe we've all been played. Farage is playing a good game- he's stopped talking about immigrants, and isn't really even talking about the EU anymore, he's just blasting away at the open goal that is our hopeless government and opposition. Just what the demographic he appeals to will lap up.

The figures for the last quarter were distorted by stockpiling for fear of a no deal brexit, hardly good news for any economy.

Well, the U.K. economy has grown again (news just now).

Does any country actually trade on WTO rules alone? the answer is NO.

All 164 countries in WTO have trade treaties with other countries. Our treaties are with the EU and with countries which have treaties with the EU.

I wonder how many of the angry red-faced supporters of a "no-deal" brexit understand that?. My guess would be very few.

In 2017 the UK imported £341 billion worth of goods from other EU countries and exported £274 billion worth. This is how the leavers were able to say "we import more from them than they do from us" and go on about German cars and French cheese and wine.

However this £341 billion represented only 8% of the exports from EU countries to non-EU countries, whereas the £275 billion represented a whopping 44% of our exports, so anyone who has a modicum of understanding of the true situation can surely see through the leaver's claims and realise how much more damage could be done to the UK economy if that trade was put at risk by brexit.

Deals will be struck Urmstongran of course. And money will be made. In fact there will be more money made by some people than they ever could whilst we stayed in the EU and retained a stable economy. The real pity of it is that most of the people who voted to leave won't see a penny of that money.

Anyway you have to look at our biggest trading partners last year.

7 out of 15 are in EU.

We are the 5th biggest economy in the world.
We are on the security council and still head of the commonwealth(FWIW) and a key ally in 5EYES and one of a tiny handful that actually meets its NATO obligations!

By any stretch of the imagination: this country is not insignificant outside of EU.

Anyone actually advocating a "no-deal" brexit should ask whether this is what they want for their families-.

If we left the EU with no deal, far from having the upper hand, the UK negotiators would be begging the other EU 27 and the rest of the world for any deals on any terms. OK, it would hurt them too, but it would hurt us far more. The nonsense of "they need us more than we need them" is just another leavers lie. It is the reverse of the truth.

If any government was to willfully inflict such damage on our country, that would indeed be treacherous. Why do you think Mr Putin is so keen on brexit? He is no friend of the UK.

And it seems to many, many others (millions of us) that all along Brexit was a about a deal, and not cutting ties. May took us up to the 11th hour knowing full well her agreement was unacceptable to Leavers and that our Remain Parliament would veto it.

One wonders if that was the plan all along. Now, to present a deal that is favourable to Brussels but not the UK is disgraceful.

Leave should have meant Leave from the off. We would have been in a much stronger negotiating position if we were out of the EU and THEN agreeing terms. We all know full well the big players in the EU are fearful of losing our billions and our markets too.

Leave has been all about an 'agreement' and we can see now that our Remainer PM may have been hand in glove with Barnier and Junker. We were on the back foot all along and still remain a puppet for Brussels to toy with - after three years,

But not immediately, as I recall. They were given a chance before May took over because they weren't achieving anything. And a detailed and practicable plan in place before they invoked A50 and started negotiating, would have been a good idea.

I think you're utterly irresponsible and have absolutely no idea about the chaos that would be caused by just walking away from the EU with no deals at all in place. Experts in just about every field imaginable have said, at length just how badly it would damage the UK. Far more than it would damage the EU. 'No deal' in most situations, from negotiating with other countries to buying a new car, means reverting to the status quo, retaining what you already have. Not cutting yourself completely adrift,with nothing to fall back on. To call that 'no deal' is almost a perversion of language.

Fortunately, only ('only' ) 30% of the population think the same way that you do. We can only hope that the remaining 70% prevails in this utter madness.

Never the Leavers fault is it; they can do no wrong. If they had prepared, had discussions with the EU and a plan set before we had the vote - and they had plenty of time to do this - they could not have been sidelined, secretly or otherwise.

All this “deals will be struck” - yes probably, but “deals”( or treaties as they should more accurately be known) take years to finalise, meanwhile we have to follow the rules and pay money to the unelected WTO ( hmmm - what was all that guff about sovereignty?) we become an international pariah for breaking the GFA, and 50% of our food becomes more expensive, the £ crashes to a new low, plus the government of whatever hue is weakened even more than it is already. Great. Still all that money for the NHS and no more foreigners. Funny what some people believe.

Certain Leavers were and are stupid Urmstongran; they had not planned. It's an old one but a true that if you fail to plan you plan to fail. That is exactly what the vastly wealthy who wanted this Brexit did. There was nothing there to work with.

I see that the dreaded "experts" are now saying our chance of a trade deal, either with China or the USA is around about nil as they fight their trade war. Where do we go without these trade deals if we are not in the EU?

In the BBC4 documentary Guy Verhofstadt is heard to say ‘Olly Robbins says he wants to live in Belgium after all this he daren’t go back to the U.K.!’

I’m not trying to. We negotiated weakly and were shafted. Remainers of course weren’t upset by it.

I just think it illustrates very well in the documentary that the EU were delighted at what they had managed to achieve. Their team agreed ‘it was better than our expectations’.

No wonder they are reluctant to open the WA to change anything.

Hence the logjam. We need to change the players to move this forward.
