Visit of Trump

Well Trump has been invited by those at Buckingham Palace to come to Britain for an official state visit. So we can all forget about Brexit, and stop wringing our hands in dismay at Farage and his antics, and we can turn our attention towards a new fashion, hating Trump.

Discuss.

Trump did not win the popular vote and I don't think there is evidence that he supports the U.K remaining in Europe.

You may agree or disagree about Trump, but apparently he has got many things right....such as ...

Created millions of new jobs (the White House claims as many as 3 million) and brought unemployment down to 3.9 percent, the lowest since 2000.

Began a dialogue with North Korea about ending its nuclear weapons program.

Taking on the news media and not backing down - exposing bias and agenda-driven journalism

Moved the U.S. Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.

Pulled the United States out of the Iranian nuclear deal.

Stood up to NATO countries for not contributing enough money to cover the organization’s expenses and their own defense costs.

Targeting the ruthless Salvadoran street gang MS-13.

Focusing attention on Rust Belt states and giving respect to white working-class voters, overlooked by the elites on both coasts.

Challenging elitism and questioning what it means to be “elite.”

Focusing national attention on the opiod crisis, including a look at doctors who over prescribe pain pills.

Proposing and helping pass a tax cut and cutting federal regulations.

Renegotiating unfair trade deals in search of better terms.

Targeting racial preferences at colleges and universities, which often hurt intended beneficiaries by lowering standards.

Shaking up both the Republican and Democratic establishments and remaining independent from the Washington cartel.

Making politics more accessible to people who have rarely voted or cared about it, and widening the door of civic engagement.

Pulling out of the Paris Agreement on climate change and defying global warming alarmists.

More than Facebook & Twitter, Google threatens democracy, online freedom

Put an intense focus on immigration, the importance of border security and the cost of illegal immigration, including U.S. citizens killed by the undocumented.

Done more for poor Americans in a year and a half than all the rhetoric of Barack Obama in his eight years as president.

Everyone has their own opinions, but the above has been achieved.

Jane10. I think Boris J is very much like him but with a greater vocabulary! Both baiting populism to their own ends !

123coco Wed 24-Apr-19 15:47:02

It’s not Maj who has invited him. Unfortunately for her and everyone else who has to meet this loathsome man, it’s Mrs May Who invites her to states and let’s not fool ourselves it’s all about trade deals. Welcome to chlorinated chicken. He will not be staying at Buck house apparently thank goodness, as he would just complain about there not being any gold plated taps. How will he cope without any cheeseburgers and the state banquet . Poor guests what are they going to talk to him about ? He has about a vocabulary of 20 words and the consist of Russia , collusion , lock , crooked , Hillary , up , horrible , Obama, Putin, big, biggest, best , great, , beautiful etc

Could Anja update us on how the visit of her Trump supporting relatives went after the event? She could also buy a range of British newspapers for them to read while they are over here.

M0nica Wed 24-Apr-19 15:28:40

maryliza you completely misunderstood my post. I was talking about respect for the concept of the President of the United States, which is the title given to the post of being leader of that country, which played in WW2, but that post is over 200 years old and continues regardless of who is the incumbent. However I have utter contempt for the man now holding that post and deeply regret that such a draft dodging denigrater one of his countries greatest heroes, should hold that post at this commemoration.

It is possible to respect the official position while holding one of its holders in utter contempt.

Jane10 Wed 24-Apr-19 14:51:20

One good thing about UK politicians is that they are absolutely not like him!

Urmstongran Wed 24-Apr-19 14:46:30

It was said at the time he was voted in as POTUS that many people were sick of duplicitous politicians.

Remind anybody of anything going on here?

KatyK Wed 24-Apr-19 14:44:19

Lots of members of our family think Trump is the best thing since sliced bread. I don't get it myself. Nannytopsy The best placard I saw last time was Melania - blink three times if you need help

maryeliza54 Wed 24-Apr-19 14:37:32

Some posters seem to think that because he was democratically elected we shouldn’t criticise him or demonstrate against him, that’s quite clear. The fact of how he was elected is utterly irrelevant as to whether he is criticised or not. It’s what he does, says and stands for that is criticised.

maryeliza54 Wed 24-Apr-19 14:33:17

‘Screaming insults’ what a silly comment

Mycatisahacker Wed 24-Apr-19 14:31:48

Kitty

Not you and the type that corrects others spellings.,annoying grin

Mycatisahacker Wed 24-Apr-19 14:30:14

Has anyone actually said they like trump?? Who would?

Nothing to do that is it? It’s about D day celebrations that should he all s out remembering the allies dead not screaming insults at the current temporary president.

lemongrove Wed 24-Apr-19 14:24:52

MaizieD you must be talking about another poster and not Urmstongran as I have read her posts and there is nothing, nada, zilch about liking him ( let alone loving him!)
I do wish posters would get their facts right instead of jumping in with both feet.
Maryeliza I actually do think it matters that DT was democratically elected, and of course they can be criticised,
What leader isn’t in democratic countries?
At the same time, the government of the day has a right to invite him here, and the populace ( if they so wish) have a right to go and stand and yell ‘boo, hiss’ as he passes by.

gran5up Wed 24-Apr-19 13:48:56

Spent a fruitless session at the computer earlier today, trying to find how to sign a petition of protest.
Not a luxury available to me it seems as I neither use "Twitbook" nor do I wish to. Any ideas, Grans, please?

kittylester Wed 24-Apr-19 13:47:16

Who corrects spelling mycat?

What type?

Who are we talking about?

missdeke Wed 24-Apr-19 13:45:35

Mycatisahacker Thanks for that, I thought I was the only one to notice. grin

ReadyMeals Wed 24-Apr-19 13:44:13

Well, as a person he's not someone I'd have as a friend, I must say. However, I don't think anyone has satisfactorily demonstrated he's not fit to rule a democratic country? The comment about where to grab women is unfortunate when said out loud and recorded in the media, but he wouldn't be the first powerful person whose attitude towards his sex life left something to be desired morally.

Mycatisahacker Wed 24-Apr-19 13:38:53

She corrects spellings too!

That type wink

Mycatisahacker Wed 24-Apr-19 13:38:10

Missdeke

Actually I thought your comment made perfect visual sense and would be far better than screaming mobs.

SueDonim Wed 24-Apr-19 13:35:47

Quick release pants, Jane10, complete with ripcord! grin

Houseseller Wed 24-Apr-19 13:30:17

I think people are forgetting that Trump represents one of the most powerful counties in the world and he actually seems to like us Brits unlike most of Europe. He should be welcomed as the leader of the USA and given the respect his office deserves as one of our most important Allies

missdeke Wed 24-Apr-19 13:13:20

GabriellaG54 Jesus woman do you really never have anything else to do than put people down? Your comments are continually derogatory.

Mycatisahacker Wed 24-Apr-19 13:02:50

janelo

Please ask the staff to help you with your search and report back their reaction! grin

Mycatisahacker Wed 24-Apr-19 12:59:37

Corbyn has never run anything in his life apart from the utter mess he’s making running labour.

TM is equally inept at running her party
