The embarrassment of the Tories

“It is said that those whom the gods wish to destroy they first make mad”
This is a quote in a newspaper editorial, which I thought extremely apt.
The editorial is headed
“Britain is being ruled by a party that has lost its political bearings”
Goes on to outline the reckless ill discipline so evident in the government, and in particular the leak over the Huawei decision, which defied two of the fundamental rules of British government -

Collective responsibility and official secrecy.

We can rely on neither of those concepts with this dreadful government.

If a government fails in such fundamentals it has failed completely.

I do hope Williamson is innocent, as I have been reading his history as Defence Secretary, and he has clearly provided as much merriment as Grayling. The chuckle brothers??

Here are some of his better moments.

March 2018. After the discovery that Russia were the chief suspects in the poisoning of Skripal and his daughter.
“Russia should shut up and go away”
Much merriment in the Russian press as you can imagine.

July 2018. Williamson was the first minister to be heckled by his own phone at the dispatch box.. Discussing Syria appeared to prompt the Siri service - it said “I’ve found something on the web for Syria” Much merriment in the HoC.

August 2018. Williamson put forward the idea of mounting guns on tractors as makeshift mobile missile launchers.
Also suggested buying second hand ferries (some of Graylings going spare I assume) to convert into beach assault craft.
A military source told the sSun that he thought Williamson was out of his mind, and that no one knows what to do with him (The original Yes Minister?)
Williamson also tried to launch his own set of medals for gallantry. He apparently was totally clueless that only the queen can approve such honours.

December2018 - Williamson propose firing paintballs at Spanish Ships off the coast of Gibraltar.

February 2018 - (best of all) Williamson said brexit represented an opportunity for Britain to boost its global military standing and “enhance our lethality” in response to threats posed by Russia and China.
Williamson then announced that HMS Queen Elizabeth would be sent to the Pacific, where Beijing has been involved in a dispute over territorial claims in the South China Seas.
Following these remarks, a trip by Hammond to China for trade talks were cancelled.

Absolutely glorious!

Perhaps Mrs May was just looking for an opportunity to sack him! I expect her senior civil servant was trying to prove that he conspired with Grayling so she could get rid of both of them, but couldn't quite make it.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 02-May-19 08:13:52

O-er - Kuensberg suggesting Williamson “knows” lots of government secrets and won’t go quietly .

Must get in the pop corn

I swear you are wasted on here unless your day job is comedy.

Your posts are bloody hilarious keep them coming grin

GillT57 Thu 02-May-19 09:36:30

I don't understand why May hasn't called the Police in. Unless of course she would rather not have too many things uncovered.

The defence secretary went to the same school as my sons, same time, i must ask them if they knew hm and what he was like at school, not sure what that says about the school, he met his wife here at the local college

crystaltipps Thu 02-May-19 10:45:22

Wasn’t he a fireplace salesman before he became an MP?

GrannyGravy13 Thu 02-May-19 10:52:32

I have always voted Tory.................I have no words to describe these "shower of sh**s" who are not running this wonderful United Kingdom at the moment!!!!

The UK has so many things to be proud of - Some of the best Universities in the World, home of research, invention and innovations, beautiful countryside, architecture and heritage everywhere and some of the most beautiful beaches (Pembrokeshire, Scotland, Jurassic Coast to name a few). Added to these are the diverse culture and friendly people.

All we read in the printed press, social media, TV etc., is the constant shenanigans of our so called "Government" and Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition (which in my opinion couldn't oppose a change of direction of a paper sail boat)!!

I am embarrassed to be a Conservative Voter, I cannot see any alternative though!! I must say that our local MP is trying their best, and that our local Conservative Council is a really good and caring one, cannot say the same for our Conservative County Council though.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Think you are not alone there. It’s utterly depressing isn’t it

Lily65 Thu 02-May-19 11:13:36

Utterly, utterly.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 03-May-19 09:47:47

More idiocy

Johnson tweeted that he had just voted in the local elections, but then had to withdraw the tweet.

Reason.?

There are no elections taking place in his area.

Lies simply trip off their tongue with such incredible ease don’t they?

Mycatisahacker Fri 03-May-19 09:50:46

The less we hear about johnson the better.

Absolute idiot.

jura2 Fri 03-May-19 09:55:10

the legal fight to sue him for his blatant lies in the campaign, which is knew were false and would influence the vote- is doing well, very well ... let's hope.

Mycatisahacker Fri 03-May-19 09:58:46

To be fair jura much as he disgusts me there were blatant lies and misinformation on both sides.

I wish to god we had never heard of this referendum..

maryeliza54 Fri 03-May-19 11:46:11

mycat why do you think the less we hear about BJ the better? He wants to be the PM ffs. Why do you think his continuing lying behaviour should be hidden? You’ve heard about his lying tweet about voting yesterday?

Whitewavemark2 Fri 03-May-19 12:02:51

It appears Mr Rees Mogg that the will of the people in your neck of the woods is remain. But don’t let that deter your pursuit of money.

That x 100000000000000000000000000000000000000

Ilovecheese Fri 03-May-19 12:59:31

I don't think this is a police matter for Gavin Williamson. According to an article in today's Guardian he has not broken the law or even the Official Secrets Act, just the ministerial code.
Still deserved the sacking though.

Mycatisahacker Fri 03-May-19 13:52:09

MaryEliza

No I get we need to hear how nonsense so we can judge but his face is too punchable to bare grin

Mycatisahacker Fri 03-May-19 13:53:00

He will never be PM surely he was dire as foreign secretary

maryeliza54 Fri 03-May-19 14:21:32

BJ is the darling of the membership - if he ends up as one of the last two, he’ll become leader. We are relying on the Tory MPs running a successful ABB campaign and we know how organised they are. Be afraid, be very afraid

MaizieD Fri 03-May-19 14:26:51

ABB, maryeliza? What dat?

Ilovecheese Fri 03-May-19 14:40:34

Anyone But Boris?

maryeliza54 Fri 03-May-19 15:16:33

Yep ilove
