Baby's on the way.....

Millie22 Tue 07-May-19 11:53:12

I think it's lovely news and Harry looked so happy. Diana was a princess but I think her official title was Diana Princess of Wales.

Day6 Tue 07-May-19 11:55:20

Doesn't Robbie Williams have a Teddy? (Is it Theodore/Theodora?)

I would steer well clear of names celebs choose for their off-spring, but who knows what Meghan thinks. The Clooneys have an Alex (I think?) so they are unlikely to go down the best buddies route. I imagine the Clooneys have already arranged a play-date for the baby royal and their twins.

Cannot imagine soap star Meghan ever walked in the Hollywood exalted circle of Pitts, Jolies, Damons, Cruises or Clooneys when all she was really known for was Suits, filmed in Canada, where she lived with her dogs.

I wonder when the Clooneys started schmoozing? Soon after whispers of her dating a British prince emerged? All speculation of course.....

Sorry Diana was not a princess , if Charles wasn’t Prince of Wales he would still be Prince Charles and Diana would have been a duchess , same as Camilla and Fergie , when Edward inherits the title Duke of Edinburgh Sophie will no longer be a countess but a duchess

Amagran Tue 07-May-19 12:14:09

Grannytotwins - hear, hear.

The bottom line is, they are two human beings celebrating the birth of their first child in their own way. They might as well please themselves, because they will never please everyone, whatever they do. Good luck to them, and every other person celebrating the birth of a new baby.

Sara65 Tue 07-May-19 12:27:00

That is so true!

Sparklefizz Tue 07-May-19 12:28:57

Sorry Diana was not a princess

Anniebach I thought she was "Diana, Princess of Wales"

sarahellenwhitney Tue 07-May-19 12:36:39

Diana was not a princess by birth but as wife of Charles ,Prince of Wales she became Diana Princess of Wales.
On their divorce HRH was removed but not her title Princess of Wales . On her death she kept this title , and until William becomes monarch and Prince of Wales , will keep this title Princess of Wales, which will then go to Catherine wife of William.

Calendargirl Tue 07-May-19 13:00:53

Another name Diana could have used I believe was Princess Charles, which sounds very odd, but I suppose we are accustomed to Princess Michael as a name and title for Prince Michael’s wife.

JenniferEccles Tue 07-May-19 13:02:39

I suppose a typical American name might be a possibility, like, say, Seth or Jed. Let's hope not though.

I wonder who he will resemble? There are so many possible variations of colouring aren't there?

Did anyone see poor Nicholas Witchell completely dry up on the BBC News at Ten last night?

Maybe he was just so overcome with excitement!!

Shazmo24 Tue 07-May-19 13:04:52

We were told there would be no announcement but there was..on Instagram!...for goodness sake this child is 7th in line and probably won't be given a title - just like neither Zara or her brother Princess Anne's children...if they want privacy don't engage in Social Media

Anniebach Tue 07-May-19 13:05:23

Sorry to disagree but Camilla could have taken the title Princess of Wales

Anniebach Tue 07-May-19 13:07:51

Good grief, Scots pipers marching through Windsor , mad, mad, mad .

Bridgeit Tue 07-May-19 13:12:42

And if we do t want to know anything about why come on Gransnet & comment , no one is forced to read or watch anything about them.

Anniebach Tue 07-May-19 13:13:59

Because it’s on the news

Bridgeit Tue 07-May-19 13:19:49

Yes there are many variations, I remember watching a story about a racist man who had his ancestry traced, he found out some of his distant ancestors were black.
He had to rethink all his opinions & beliefs, to give him his due he did admit how ignorant he had previously been & readdressed his old thought patterns

Iam64 Tue 07-May-19 13:21:20

Waves in a friendly way to Bridgeit, not for the first time on a ‘royal’ thread.
I thought Harry looked over tired and over excited when he made the announcement about the birth of their first baby. Just like almost every other first time father. Yes yes yes, I know they will never have the practical worries most young parents face, can we pay the bills, what can we cook on Thursday night with whatever’s left in the fridge. But, my adult children haven’t had every aspect of their lives picked over publicly, in the unpleasant, judgemental, cold and critical way these young parents live with. I wish them well and much joy with their new baby

Bridgeit Tue 07-May-19 13:22:29

Many things are on the news Anni , but there is no excuse for spiteful tittattle.

Bridgeit Tue 07-May-19 13:23:44

Thank you Iam , & a friendly thankyou back ?

Brismum Tue 07-May-19 13:40:52

Nice comment Iam64 I’m with you there. Harry has had so much sadness it was lovely to see his joy. Let’s hope the anti Meghan comments will cease now the baby has arrived. Although I suspect some people will always choose to pick fault. Live and let live, none of us are perfect!

grandtanteJE65 Tue 07-May-19 13:42:17

Well, there is a Charles in the family, so why not a James?
To my mind the Stewarts were rather more interesting kings than the house of Hanover.

Theoddbird Tue 07-May-19 13:42:54

Spencer might be a possible name in honour of his grandmother's family name

LizH13 Tue 07-May-19 13:44:12

Iam64, what wise words. They are a young family and I wish them well.

Anniebach Tue 07-May-19 13:48:48

Bridgeit by spiteful you mean criticism? You never criticise anyone in the public eye ? Politician, celebrity, author?

petalmoore Tue 07-May-19 13:50:13

Considering that most of the people who’ve posted here express a version of the view that there is too much fuss being made about the newest member of the royal family, I am surprised to see that as I write this, there are already six pages in this thread. Clearly, making a fuss about people making a fuss is a popular pastime ...

avalon Tue 07-May-19 13:59:52

I am an American who has lived in London for decades and find the snide anti-Americanism of most of these posts truly offensive. I have taken much pleasure in GN for years but the attitudes towards Meghan and Harry for marrying her are unkind little-Englandism.
