Next Tory Leader.

I think the European elections will be fascinating to see if there has been much movement amongst the general public.

My thoughts are Brexit and Lib Dem’s gain and labour and Tory massive losses.

A general election probably is needed so people can select and deselect MPs according to their Brexit/remain stance.

Gonegirl, we have a Government whose job it should be to ensure that the standard of living in no areas of the United Kingdom fall to unacceptable levels of poverty. Certainly not to the extent that the United Nations publish a damning report describing areas of the UK experiencing levels of poverty similar to life in the workhouses of the past. The poor have been abandoned to simply live with steep cuts in benefits, for whom food banks have become the norm in some areas, accompanied by rising levels of homelessness and sleeping on the streets.

What the people living in Oxfordshire and Berkshire can do is at least to show some empathy and to care about the levels of poverty and insecurity some people are enduring and to put pressure on the Government to ensure the wellbeing of all citizens.

Our politics is broken. We need to completly overhaul our voting system before we have a general election, but the first thing to be done is to revoke article 50 to avert disaster.

One word of advice though there will be posters who perhaps can’t spell or like me use their phones as they are very busy doing other things so you do make yourself sound a tad silly and ,of course,for posters who can’t spell, well just nasty.

So to overhaul the system we need to ignore the biggest democratic vote in the countries history and completely throw away the promises of both main parties to carry out Brexit.

Yes that would surely sort the divisions in the country.

And look what happened when the rank and file membership elected the Leader of the LP- massively against the opinions of the parliamentary LP - its elected members.

Indeed and that decision will loose labour the next election unless they oust Corbyn.

I too jura find myself agreeing with Nicola Sturgeon, she sums it up I think. I really do wonder what MPs (and GN) think a new leader of the Tory party is going to achieve? This whole business is unsolveable, too many polarised opinions in and out of HoC, and at the risk of repeating the bloody obvious, 17.4 m votes cannot be allowed to change the future of 66m. This is not GE, the result cannot be changed in 5 years. I agree with many on here, on both sides, that our current system is broken, but while we keep moving the deckchairs on The Titanic by changing Tory party leader, and while we have Corbyn wittering away ineffectually on the opposition benches, we are in the a right old mess. At least Vince Cable has stood fast to his opinions, not like Corbyn who must have an arse full of splinters from sitting on the fence for so long. Sorry about the cursing, but it would make a nun swear.

Who can sort out brexit. The conservative and labour parties are split .

Nothing wrong with Esther McVey Whitewave. She resigned as she recognised that May was not doing what she promised in her manifesto, to leave on March 29th. Rees Mogg has already said he does not want to stand and is backing Boris.

Does anyone remember Boris stating, after DC's resignation, that he didn't consider himself suitable PM material, so wouldn't stand? He was right, of course, but he is capable of winning (they hope) an election for the Tories on a populist ticket.

It is all most unedifying. If a gun was to be held to my head, I would select someone like Rory Stewart or Jeremy Hunt. Despite their 'nasty party' credentials, they at least are capable of conducting themselves with dignity and professionalism, especially overseas.

A very dignified statement from @theresa_may. Thank you for your stoical service to our country and the Conservative Party. It is now time to follow her urgings: to come together and deliver Brexit.
