Names are coming along at a regular basis, and with May having a meeting with Brady today, it is likely that she will be persuaded to give a date of her departure.

So let’s start looking at who would make the most suitable Tory leader.

The first out of the hat is Boris Johnson.
His first hurdle is facing court to defend the charge of lying before the referendum.

There you go again lemon making up what people have posted - you really could do with some comprehension lessons.

Johnson seems to be making thousands by giving speeches abroad, too. Just imagine being able to get thirty thousand euros just like that. I assume he gave it to charity [or the NHS]. Or perhaps it'll go towards his divorce settlement...

GillT57 Wed 29-May-19 12:09:09

Hopefully this will snooker Johnson's leadership chances. He is a liar, proven many times. Still, the way things are going in politics at the moment, with St Nigel of Farage being hailed as a hero, maybe this will not stop the old fools who make the leadership decision.

Beammeupscottie Wed 29-May-19 12:14:58

It seems to be "old Fools" who support Johnson or spivvy Farage. Gove is getting the backing of his wife, Sara Vine, I see. Thank you and goodnight Lady Macbeth.

There must have been much joy amongst many of the other contenders at this news - wonder where some of the money raised came from? ?

Beammeupscottie Wed 29-May-19 12:26:32

I believe the money came from crowdfunding. Someone give me the details and I will contribute.
The Tories would be stupid to pick a leader tainted from the bent Referendum. But then, what was clever about called a R in the first place?

MaizieD Wed 29-May-19 12:42:45

Marcus Ball's crowdfunder:

I'm contributing.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 29-May-19 12:44:01

And me , well, I have tbh

Beammeupscottie Wed 29-May-19 13:04:31

Just contributed. With the publicity, they should reach their target.

GillT57 Wed 29-May-19 13:06:12

Just watch all the rats deserting Johnson now that he is a (bit more) toxic candidate. Wonder how JRM will square this with his high standards of public service and expected behaviour?

Beammeupscottie Wed 29-May-19 13:10:26

JRM should think himself fortunate as his only known crime is merely against the Art of Literature having produced a god-awful (read the critics) book on the Victorians (this really discloses his values).

Beammeupscottie Wed 29-May-19 13:17:31

Remember what used to be said about a cocky kid;
"He'll end up as Prime Minister or in Prison".

winterwhite Wed 29-May-19 13:33:48

Pleased that there are to be television and radio debates so that non Tory members learn more about the candidates.
Meanwhile I support Rory Stewart as having achieved things in a career outside politics and not having an axe to grind. But as for MG - what was it he said about leaving the EU being as easy as falling off a log... ?

LarrythecatknowsitAll Wed 29-May-19 13:37:18

Beammeupscottie

Your post about JRM made me cough up my soup grin

maryeliza54 Wed 29-May-19 13:38:48

Oh ? ww I didn’t know that. I’ll watch them all and then hail a passing elderly, male, middle class male, check he’s a member and then give him the benefit of my opinion so that I can feel involved in this great democracy of ours. How exciting ???

maryeliza54 Wed 29-May-19 13:40:54

Oh yes the great intellect JRM - never in the field of historical literature has such an effort been so universally condemned by so many.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 29-May-19 13:49:44

?

GracesGranMK3 Wed 29-May-19 14:33:41

Rory Stewart is leading the field among none Conservative voters, apparently.

Labaik Wed 29-May-19 14:46:15

Has JRM spent so much of his life filibustering that, when it came to writing a book he was unable to sop veering away totally from the subject he was writing about?

LarrythecatknowsitAll Wed 29-May-19 14:52:30

That’s an Eton education for you! grin

Grandad1943 Wed 29-May-19 15:13:52

Just heard the news that Boris (The Buffoon) Johnson is to face court over his antics during the leave EU Referendum Campaign.

As someone just said here in the office that he will in all probability still get elected as Tory Leader but have to answer his first Prime Minister's Questions to the Commons via a video link from his prison cell in Brixton. ?

Anyway, head down, back to work. ?

jura2 Wed 29-May-19 16:51:52

Oh there is a God after all. With Marcus Ball all the way - proud to have participated in the funding.

MawBroonsback Wed 29-May-19 16:55:18

Grandad gringrin
Karma?

maddyone Wed 29-May-19 18:59:39

I’m still liking Rory Stewart, he’s had some very good life experiences outside of politics before he was an MP. But I’m not holding my breath.

Beammeupscottie, Lady Macbeth grin grin

crystaltipps Wed 29-May-19 19:03:54

Rory Stewart and Matt Hancock both sound reasonably normal, but I guess they won’t appeal to those who get to vote - mostly male, white, over 55, live in the south, talk about unaccountable and undemocratic appointments. Isn’t the one of the criticisms of the EU?
