"I wish I loved the human race; I wish I loved it's silly face;"
(349 Posts)This poem just about sums it up for me today.
Yes, she's resigned. But the nasty, vindictive vitriol coming from so many people this morning is unworthy of the rest of us.
Poor woman. She did her best. She worked so hard and for so long, without any useful help from the rest of them. And now all people can do is kick her when she's down.
Personally I think the whole country should give her the biggest and best bunch of flowers possible, and say THANK YOU FOR TRYING SO HARD!
Now let the vitriol continue....
I agree Ceegeebee she was an awful Home Secretary and a dreadful PM. She was put in place by the Tories who have a track record for disposing of their leaders with absolute ruthlessness. She should have known what would happen. (Please don't leave)
Ceegeebee I couldn't agree more.
I agree with Ceegeebee and others who are remembering the awful grinding poverty she has promoted, along with the decimation of the NHS and social care amongst many other things. The Grenfell survivors are petitioning now about the lack of any effective government action on making sure people are safe in their own homes.......because there has been none. It is Tory policies of austerity and the hostile environment heaped on top of the Brexit shambles that has ruined this country, and given the far right carte blanche to make things even worse, if that's possible.
I love my country too, but I'm ashamed of it now.
Again we don't all gush with emotion which for people who do are usually aimed at the media to show how caring their often crocodile tears are!
As Annie said, the next person in this job will know the pitfalls; T.M didn't and so fell into the traps which were undoubtedly shamefully laid for her, mostly by her own M.P's! She's done a 'dummy run' for the next person who should (?!) fare better, even dear old know all Jeremy, god forbid!
She spared us a Corbyn act , hugging victims and declaring
‘ I feel your pain’, cameras were there. When she met the victims it was in private .
All those slagging Theresa and blaming her for all the economic ills of the country seem to have forgotten that she, personally, has been flat out trying to find a way to reconcile an intransigent bunch at first in the EU then in the shark tank of Parliament. She hasn't had the chance to get to work on all the other aspects of government. She must have had countless sleepless nights and long hard weeks followed by working weekends including media interviews and every single word she uttered analysed in detail. Don't slag the woman
I do so agree with you.
Here here she didn’t run away she stood firm did anyone care or help her no they just moaned and complain. I am not a Tory but she has my vote as a person. She should walk tall I admire her enormously
Jane10 if any woman ignores poverty, allows the ill and disabled to be punished financially, discriminates against the children of immigrants, and generally introduces a policy of hatred and abuse to be introduced for refugees and asylum seekers I consider it my duty to criticise her. The suffragettes fought not only for the vote, but for equality, and because they believed women would bring a kinder and more compassionate attitude to those in need into politics. If it's "slagging off" to point out when a women hasn't done any of this well so be it.
Jane10
Totally agree
I think she did well under the most incredible pressure. She was never going to be allowed to succeed by the misogynous, grey suited old boys' club that is the British Parliament. Thank you, Mrs May for trying so hard!
'Deport first, appeal later' - is that something someone with integrity would say about hundreds of her fellow countrymen, many if whom don't remember living in another country?
Taking care of the Grenville people, many of whom are still in temporary accommodation, proved to be lies.
Compare this with how the NZ PM has behaved in the face of tragedy.
I couldn't disagree more! Where were her tears for the victims of Windrush or Grenfell? Who sent out the Go Home vans? Whose austerity policies and inadequate assessments of need have led to unnecessary deaths, many by suicide? Her setting out of red lines in the Lancaster House speech, to appease her party's right wingers, was what continued the Brexit mess Cameron led us into. I could go on.
I agree Beammeupscottie! But what we have learned is that most MP’s feel so entitled that they have forgotten that they are mere mouthpieces for their electorate. We don’t give a damn what they think about anything ... we care that they vote for things the way we have asked them to. It is high time a lot of their benefits were removed - why do they pay next to nothing in their restaurants, they would have to eat whatever job they were doing! Why should we pay for second homes when a lot of them live close enough to go home under their own steam every night! Too entitled for their own good I am afraid.
@trisher - I totally agree with you. Glad that there are some on here who can see her for what she is and don't turn a blind eye to what she has done.
Has May demanded the victims of Grenfell pay for anything from the monies donated ? A labour government did this to other disaster victims ,
Food banks are in every country in Europe.
The ‘go home’ vans were reference to illegal immigrants
Seems poverty has only existed in this country for 3 years
To blame May for all the ills in the country is unfair. A Home Secretary does not run the country.
Agreed to the original post. A huge thank you for all you've done. I feel she was set up to fail in a difficult position where no one could have done any better. You can't negotiate with people who refuse to negotiate.
Agree Riverdaffyd........would have to eat whatever job they were doing - who else read the appalling fact that cleaners and others in the Dept for Business are having to use an INTERNALLY " set up food bank because the useless govt contract outsourcing them can't (be bothered?) to pay them due to incompetence?
And there has never been poverty before? Absolutely all ills are personally down to her?
I think Mrs May tried to do the best for the people who voted to come out of the European Union, unfortunately she was shafted by her colleagues who wanted to stay in the EU and they will do the same to whoever takes over as Prime Minister. Politicians are voted in by us people but they don’t want to do what we want them to once they are in parliament. We should vote them all out and get in some people who will do what we want. I think the biggest majority of the conservatives have forgotten why and how they got there, democracy is dead.
I think that’s a good plan Pollyanna, come the general election, let’s vote them all out, and start again with some new blood
No Jane10 no poverty before, it’s all come about in three years
Jane10. Of course there has been poverty before and it is difficult to address every aspect BUT since the welfare state was set up we have not seen the levels and awful consequences that are directly caused by this government. There are other examples above but to name just two examples - firstly, Universal Credit with diabolical implementation leading to people having to heat or eat, and deaths following such poor assessments of peoples' capability to work that hey die of their conditions or suicide within days and weeks of the outcomes are surely enough to demonstrate the uncaring and cruel nature of this government and secondly the decimation of social care through massive cuts to local authority budgets leading to elderly and disabled people unable to get help with their most essential needs such as going to the toilet!
I'm going to stick my neck out and disagree she has made this country a laughing stock . She has contradicted herself on so many levels it's unbelievable . She never wanted to leave the EU , so she has got exactly what she wants . Good riddance .
