The Labour Party
(558 Posts)Here you are.
All Corbyn critics etc can now have a thread all to yourselves.
It’s true Urmstongran,
Seems he has just been pushed off it though, the Union bosses have said the party must back a 2nd referendum and
Remain. Poor man, he doesn’t want a 2nd referendum and wants to leave .
I agree - he’s been the Leavers secret weapon because of his ‘dithering’ (true feelings) for the last 3 years!
If the LP get someone else to steer the ship - Keir Starmer/Tom Watson/almost anyone - the Tory party might have a fight on their hands.
But we fear not. It’s all too little and too late now for Labour and Corbyn won’t go unless he’s pushed. Well not until the next GE when he may step down (Brexit achieved!) and he will toddle off to check his runner beans.

True POGS, Kate stuck to her guns and Corbyn stuck to his fence
Anniebach
you do a nice one liner! ??????
Callistemon, Quote [True POGS, Kate stuck to her guns and Corbyn stuck to his fence

True Kate Hoey stuck to her guns alright. She opposed tighter handgun control in the face of an increased terrorist threat. She was in favour of hunting and even took children on firearms training sessions.
It is a just pity she did not resign twenty-nine years ago as she was never a true Socialist but a typical Blairite type who took over the party in the early nineties.
Still, they are all being rooted out now, and the Labour Party is becoming a much better place without them, and long may that continue.
Kate Hoey, didn’t support the IRA, was not a friend of Hamas and didn’t attend a wreath laying ceremony for terrorists who murdered Olympic athletes .
Looks like Labour is going to support remain in the event if a second referendum or GE.
There is a meeting this morning. We shall see.
The Unions met yesterday and said they must
McClusky? Shadow cabinet. It isn’t a done deal yet.
McClusky did a u turn yesterday didn’t he ? The shadow cabinet are against many back benchers are for.
I cannot see the Labour Party adopting a remain stance or even a second referendum as policy at present. It is only eight weeks until the Labour Party/Movement delicate conference, and until then the "General Election First" policy remains as paramount.
I also believe that the same policy will be re-adopted at the above conference as it has kept the Broader Labour grassroots activist in the country united around that policy.
However, (and as usual) the Parliamentary Labour is divided on the Brexit as it is on several other issues. That is once again due to old Blairites not accepting the election of Jeremy Corbyn as the leader, and others already attempting to raise their profile being that Corbyn has started he is to stand down.
It will be a very interesting Labour delicate conference this year at which I expect to see those that have advocated abandoning last years Brexit policy verbally "torn to shreds."
The above is nothing less than those MPs deserve
What is the connection between labour MP’s divided over Brexit and not wanting Corbyn as leader
Waiting until the conference, which runs from 21 - 25 September as far as I can see, is pushing decision making/changing very late Grandad. I understand the need to do it following the LP democratic rules but it does make the LP look a bit of a juggernaut which cannot easily make quick decisions.

Len McClusky is carrying out the policy of the Unite Union as laid down by its delicate Conference and National Executive. That policy has always been as that Union "Remain."
However, as part of the Broader Labour Movement, Unite along with other Unions have accepted the policy as laid down by the Labour Party Delegate Conference of "a General Election First" policy which is as it should be.
I believe the announcement by the joint union General Secretaries that the Labour Party should adopt a "remain stance" was an attempt to influence this year's Labour Party Delegate conference debate on Brexit.
So still on the fence through July ,August and most of September
GracesGranMK3, the Labour Party along with its affiliated membership is a movement of more than six and a half million members. Jeremy Corbyn, along with others, has brought a much wider democracy to ALL that membership, and that will be his legacy.
Yes, that does make quick changes in policy difficult, especially in these unprecedented times. However, I believe that several motions and resolutions regarding that are down on the agenda for this years conference.
However, no substantial number of requests were received by the conference orders committee making for a recall conference to be convened. That, I feel demonstrates that the grassroots activists are still behind the "General Election First" policy adopted by last Septembers conference.
Anyway, I am now off to the office. See you later.
Thanks for the additional information Grandad
Grandad the quote about Kate Hoey: I didn't say that, it was another poster.
If something is in italics it means it was a quote from someone or somewhere else, by using these ^ ^ either side of the copied quote
like this
You probably can't do that with voice recognition but it does make posts clearer.
Ps therefore I didn't require anything about Kate Hoey to be mansplained, kindly though your intentions may have been.
FINALLY Jeremy Corbyn has got off the fence .... and fallen onto the Remain side.
Lib Dem’s & split votes here we come!
Now the Remainer vote will be split (suburban and chocolate box village Remainers voting for Lib Dems and Urban Hipster ones voting for Labour).
Labour has long ago given up worrying about "the working class" (in fact most Labour people seem to believe that class no longer exists) so it is quite right it allies itself with the likes of Goldman Sachs and the City of London to campaign for "radical change by keeping everything the same"
To think about it progressives spent 50 years moaning about "capitalism" but rather than see Brexit as an opportunity for genuine socialist reform instead they revert to type and hide behind the Bildeberg group...
I can't understand why the Labour Party want to remain in the EU! Surely a lot if not all of their fine ideas with the nationalisation of the utilities will fall foul of EU law, as lot of EU countries have an interest in these and other aspects of the economy . How will they get round this?!
Corbyn has always been against joining the EU. He was a follower of Tony Benn, never wanted to join in the first place.
And he has a history of stubbornly sticking to his principles even when proved wrong.
I think he's caved in at last under pressure from other groups in the LP. Probably mainly the Unions, which are his main source of funds.
MSM reports that Labour will campaign for Remain is not the real picture. Shadow Cabinet have agreed a modified position.
Corbyn's email to members outlines this modified position - which does not commit Labour to campaigning for remain in all circumstances.
While the email says that any deal should now go to the public, it says that Labour will campaign for remain “against either No Deal or a Tory deal that does not protect the economy and jobs” – but does not say the same for a Labour deal or in the unlikely event of a Conservative-arranged deal that does ‘protect the economy and jobs’.
It also makes clear that Labour still intends to agree a positive Brexit deal with the EU, ie respecting the democratic vote to leave.
