How bad could things get after six more years?

Can you please tell me of any official stuff explaining how the NHS is being sold? Last I heard expenditure on the NHS is the highest it's ever been.

An interesting variety of posts. Yes, I do think things are bad now for millions of people whose voices are never listened too, and I see little prospect of things getting better - esp if we have a new tory prime minister promising tax cuts, and I don't think it's 'moaning' to say so.

I think the lines are blurred between NHS continuing care and social care and we do need to pay more tax to enable Government funding to be provided for decent services rather than leaving the LAs to try to cope as best they can.

Many people have stopped buying cars, houses and holidays - just look at the figures.
Have they though?
We've just spent a long weekend away at a south coast resort which was absolutely packed with families and it was difficult to find anywhere to park or a place to sit in a café or restaurant.

Presumably the rich were not there as they would have flown off on their private jets, nor were those who were struggling.
But there is a vast swathe of the population who seem to be able to still enjoy life as well as helping others less fortunate.

If taxes are reduced, then obviously there is less money for the things that make our lives better - like the NHS, schools, hospitals, roads, etc., etc. I simply don’t understand why people think it’s a good thing to pay less tax and still expect the country to be wonderful. It’s a privilege to earn enough to pay taxes and as for those rich people who have so much money and still try to avoid paying tax ..... leaves me speechless!

I'm not sure how the health care system works in the USA for people who are sick or unemployed etc. Can you enlighten me?

Not sure how many Americans want NHS. i am not knowledgeable enough. But, I like how our taxes have been reduced, and I like choice.

I don't think your country has anything to worry about. Great Britain has been the core of Western civilization for centuries. And neither does my country. Don't believe all the headlines that we are on the brink of disaster. The US and UK are fighters and survivors.

Then we need a Labour government to put things right Labour have a lots of excellent polices. What don't you like about Mr Jeremy Corbyn? I can understand people who read the papers the propaganda lies and smears against Corbyn would believe them as it's said repeat a lie often enough. But it's about polices the Labour Party socialism it's not personality politics. The Lib Dems along with Tories brought Austerity and changed the NHS in 2012 the health and social care act so that government a health minister woukd not be responsible for the NHS paving way for private companies big business to come in. Cameron said no top down reorganisation of the NHS before election but thats just what they did. Labour is for the many not the few rich.

I have a restaurant that’s open in the day we also do deliveries. My main source of income comes from the poorest areas. They use foodbanks, they also order £60+ food orders weekly, they are all on benefits. Every flat I deliver to stinks of weed. That’s how our poorest live. My question is, if they can do all that on benefits why do others struggle so much???

Sadly, we're no longer a rich country. People go on about sixth larger economy and what not, and sure we keep busy, BUT BUT after the 2008 crisis - and a great deal of public borrowing - we were up to our necks in debt. Almost as bad as Greece.

Still, just think of all these people crossing the Mediterranean in rickety boats - of the Channel in dinghies - to get here because things like state benefits and free schools and hospitals are a think of wonder to them.

Anyhow, on the positive side - there are more people employed here than in many other countries on the continent of Europe.

But if what you say is right ( haven't heard it, myself) that we need to wait 24 years to starts seeing the benefits of Brexit - TWENTY FOUR ????? - then, GOODNESS : can we afford to leave the EU? ????

What could have been worse than the years 1939-45when the WHOLE world was involved in a war that no one could for see an end to and you think its bad now .?
The world is still here and it may not be all roses and violets and there will always be the have and have not but as one GN said lets appreciate what we do have and STOP moaning.

Cazza, I totally agree with you. What many people regard as the norm: eating out several holidays a year, throw away fashion etc.

old saying, the Rich get richer and the Poor get poorer. just look at history, no different...

Some ‘people’ do not have all those things - it’s just that the well off don’t see the plight they are in and choose to close their eyes to the hardships of others.

Venezuela is one of the richest countries in the world due to the natural reserves eg oil, gold, minerals of all kinds but as usual it's the big western companies that are getting richer and richer exploiting the native workers. Nothing changes in the pursuit of wealth.

Totally agree that most people have a great lifestyle. People eat out all the time or have takeaways that was unheard of for earlier generations. Kids have phones with costly contracts, x boxes, foreign holidays. Poverty is not just about money it’s akso about lack of opportunities. I’m a great believer in that we are born with equal opportunities, free health, schooling, housing and compared to many many other countries we have amazing chances to work hard and have good lives. Let’s appreciate what we do have and stop moaning
