"As his jumbo jet came into Stansted, Mr Trump took to social media and said: 'Sadiq Khan, who by all accounts has done a terrible job as Mayor of London, has been foolishly 'nasty' to the visiting President of the United States, by far the most important ally of the United Kingdom. He is a stone cold loser who should focus on crime in London, not me'.

He added: 'Khan reminds me very much of our very dumb and incompetent Mayor of NYC, de Blasio, who has also done a terrible job - only half his height."

How could he say that?! Especially when just entering the UK!

Is he bonkers? That's just not normal.

I am glad the state visit went well stella1949 despite the best efforts of some disrespectful lunatics trying to ruin it and that includes the leader of the opposition.

Meghan called Donald Trump 'divisive and misogynistic' .....when told about it he said " I didn't know she was nasty".

As usual the press only prints what makes news - to read the headlines you'd think he suddenly decided to say " she is nasty" which is a slight twist of the truth.

Either way it's much ado about nothing.

The state visit seems to have gone off without a hitch - much to the disappointment of the drama queens.

why do Americans say

Mawbroon, I don't know ..

rosecarmel Wed 05-Jun-19 22:54:06

If anything negative can be said about Obama it would be that he wasn't very transparent while in office and struggled with personal accountability- He wanted to do a good a job but didn't leave himself any room for mistakes, which made transparency and accountability glaring issues during his presidency-

Fennel Wed 05-Jun-19 17:09:01

I agree with trisher.
That's where all his support is in the USA.

Elvive Wed 05-Jun-19 15:32:17

dear me, can you imagine the Obamas behaving like this......calling members of the RF nasty ( possibly) standing in front of the Queen, tweeting about the Mayor being short!!

Anniebach Wed 05-Jun-19 14:15:32

Nandalot he was referring to what she said.

Callistemon Wed 05-Jun-19 13:32:08

Protocol and all planned in minute detail

Nandalot Wed 05-Jun-19 12:32:14

Annie, according to the interview I read he said “I didn’t know she was nasty”. He is talking about her, not her words.
I just find the man boorish. He has limited vocabulary and so someone is ‘nasty’ or a’good guy’. Anything he doesn’t like is fake news.
The policies on the Mexican border are atrocious. Even those who are merely acting in a humane way are punished. Four women were fined and put on probation just for handing out water at the border.

EllanVannin Wed 05-Jun-19 12:29:57

There's a heck if a difference in the size of the USA compared to this country, so when you consider the overall crime in comparison to both, we fair the worst.

Kahn has had enough time to keep going to No.10 demanding that something be done such as putting more police officers on the streets. It should be part of his job to liaise with ministers or the minister in charge of law and order.

Just WHAT do any of them do in their jobs ??

Gonegirl Wed 05-Jun-19 12:25:28

audio clip proves otherwise

He's very good at back-tracking.

Anniebach Wed 05-Jun-19 12:18:53

He did not call Megan nasty he was told what she had said about him and he said her words were nasty,

No, I don’t know better , I repeat what the facts are not what I want them to be

Anniebach Wed 05-Jun-19 12:16:28

Gonegirl the whole was organised.

Charles and Camilla meets the Trumps from the helicopter,
escorts them to the queen then steps to the side.

Charles accompanied Trump to inspect the troups, the queen no longer able to so Charles as next in line

Andrew, Harry escorting the Trump fsmily to the balcony and into the room where the queen is showing Trump things of interest.

Andrew escorts the Trumps to Westminster, Charles and Camilla welcomes the Trumps to afternoon tea .

State Banquet , those who sit at the table with the queen walk in together. Queen, Charles, Camilla, William, Kate,
Andrew, Edward in that order .

Protocol

Gonegirl Wed 05-Jun-19 12:13:14

Do you really think he would have been happy to socialise eagerly with the man who called his wife "nasty"? Is he really that two faced? No self respect?

Doesn't make sense.

But I'm sure you know better AB smile

Anniebach Wed 05-Jun-19 12:05:32

It would be incorrect for him to approach Trump who was accompanied by the queen, protocol

Gonegirl Wed 05-Jun-19 11:46:57

Was William there?

Gonegirl Wed 05-Jun-19 11:46:08

Yes, he was obviously assigned to Ivanka, but it did look as though he went out of his way to lurk well away from Trump. Can't blame him for that.

Callistemon Wed 05-Jun-19 11:38:18

And it was Cressida Dick who said that crime and the reduction in police numbers was linked.

It's a catch 22 situation, isn't it - the crime rate goes down so police numbers get cut, the crime rate goes up but they are slow to increase the numbers again.

When will politicians see that the crime rate would probably be lower if the police numbers were maintained at a higher level?
I think some of the rot started with "Blunkett's Bobbies" consequently PCSO's - policing on the cheap without the real powers necessary, although I think that they are valuable in performing some of the more mundane tasks and easing the load on the police - but that doesn't mean we need fewer police out there fighting crime.

Callistemon Wed 05-Jun-19 11:32:45

Rhinestone
Harry did not keep his distance - how it works is that every member of the RF will have a role to play and Harry's job was presumably to talk to, entertain, the Trump children or another designated person, as the grandson of the monarch.
There is a protocol to follow.
I'm not saying that he was probably not relieved that he didn't have to make small talk with the POTUS, but then I didn't see William in the forefront either.

People are making something out of nothing.

trisher Wed 05-Jun-19 11:22:06

I think he's a rascist white suprematist who would join the Klu Klux Klan if he thought he could get away with it.

Gonegirl Wed 05-Jun-19 11:14:26

I don't think that's the reason tbh. I think he gets fed up with the US being called out for all the gun crimes and so he hits out at Khan for London's knife crime.

trisher Wed 05-Jun-19 11:10:28

Ginny42 The mayor is of muslim and Pakistani descent- ask no more!

Ginny42 Wed 05-Jun-19 07:51:00

It makes me cross when people say Khan should just fight the knife crime. HOW? Police numbers have been cut and then cut some more. It's a huge problem in our society and it needs tackling from many angles, but as the police are first to be called to a stabbing, they are always going to be in the front line. Police resources are stretched

Moggie you say you 'kind of like' Trump. That's fine for you. He speaks his mind you say - it's the trash that's in that mind which is the problem. Truly. Listen to the man, he's incoherent. He's a loose cannon when he's speaking off the cuff. He should NOT have sent that aggressive tweet about Khan. So if he says it as it is, he should have left that unsaid. Why is he perpetuating what now appears to be a vendetta against the mayor of a British city?

MawBroonsback Wed 05-Jun-19 06:30:39

Just a question Rosecarmel, why do Americans say “he could care less” when you mean “He could not care less” as we do in the U.K.?
Do you see what I am getting at? confused

rosecarmel Wed 05-Jun-19 05:11:14

Rhinestone, Trump hasn't ruined our country- It was ruined long before he took office- It's gradually been sinking since the 70's-

My insurance deductible is also in the thousands and has been through several presidents- So that's nothing new-

Columbine happened in 1999 when Clinton was in office- So that's Clinton, Bush, and Obama, each serving two terms -- eight years each- How many shootings happened on their watch?

I don't understand why nearly every sitting president is blamed for the current state of our country even though it has been deteriorating for decades-

I agree he could care less about the environment and his border policy that's impacting children cannot even be described, it makes a person simply want to just sit down and cry- Two days ago ICE held children in vans for over 40 hours due to delays with reunification-

I believe the US was in desperate need of a mess, enough of one to wake people up- Nobody I know wants to return to the way things were prior to Trump, they want change in a big way- But I highly doubt that they would have wanted it if it weren't for Trump- He's lit a fire under almost everyone's you know what .. and we will be all the better for it when the Democrats take back the oval office ..
