I ( for once) haven't read the whole thread, but given that Melania Trump was a nude model can she really be surprised at inappropriate remarks??? For goodness sake, how many other nude models obtained "genius" visa entries to USA???? And they (Republicans) dare to condemn Michelle Obama for "bare arms" lol lol

I doubt that the man has dementia which seems to be the popular answer to everything these days for anything out of the ordinary in anyone over 60. Until someone said what he actually said I thought it must have been something smutty but no just rather forward. I expect he has behaved like that all of his life. I am sure we have all known someone like that in our lives.

For goodness sake what a lot of fuss about a very harmless comment. The poor man has now been diagnosed with dementia by Gransnet. There has also been more misogyny and misandry on Gransnet than this veteran has ever shown.

He was Not suffering from dementia (IMO). Just behaving like the lad he's probably been all his life. Harmless.

I think it's probably dementia and I'm sure the ladies involved would have realised this. My father in law went to live in a care home at 90 and some of the things he said to the staff, had he been younger, he would have been locked up for. This was not the way my father in law was. His dementia made him do inappropriate things.

Summerlove I think we need to be tolerant of old people, especially those who were prepared to give their lives for our freedom.

Not always the elderly when I recently witnessed a group of ' just out of nappies brigade' making suggestive remarks. they thought hilarious. to a waitress attempting to just do her job where myself and friend had hoped to have an enjoyable meal.
To my disgust the manager, when I complained, referred to it as 'harmless'.

Both ladies play an important roll in their country. Both showed dignity and compassion at an occasion that was to honour those who paid the ultimate sacrifice that others would live.
Nonsensical that both ladies, or any one, with a sense of compassion would find this comment /action from an elderly person who was witness to the horrors endured by thousands as offensive / inappropriate.

I agree, minxie, DM, when she turned 90 said "It's great getting old, you can say what you like and people accept it". She did say some pretty awful things, too.

I think he was just being a bit cheeky to Melania. She looked as if she were enjoying it and I think Trump didn't mind a bit. From the pictures I saw I think they thought it sweet and funny.

Why is it that if someone older says something or does something so called inappropriate they may have dementia.

Mcrc. I agree! He's certainly not my favourite man but it has almost become a ridiculous kind of competition to point out the most terrible thing about him! I'm so fed-up with it!
