Does anyone else think that Jo Brand's "joke" was in bad taste? Talking about the milkshake throwing she said "Why bother with milkshake when you could get some battery acid"

I appreciate she is anti-Brexit and she is entitled to share her views on that but surely this "joke" was a step too far.

maxdecatt Mon 17-Jun-19 09:22:42

Annepl. Oh I do, I do.

I agree lillyofthevalley ( nice name btw)
Although it often seems that the Beeb gleefully courts controversy these days and we may well see Brand in even more panel games as a result.

annep1 Sun 16-Jun-19 12:41:30

I'm not saying she wasn't stupid to say it but it doesn't warrant the remarks being made.
Maxdecatt I don't think you need me to explain.

lillyofthevalley Sun 16-Jun-19 12:06:32

wrong wrong wrong at every level - Not funny - not appropriate - guess she won't be on the extra slice this Autumn - shot yourself in the foot there.

maxdecatt Sun 16-Jun-19 10:07:26

What is ridiculous? LOCK HER UP or police reaction to loonies with knives?

maxdecatt Sun 16-Jun-19 09:55:04

Hovecheese. Clearly you do not follow the news and rely on censored portions of the media to cosset you in your comfort zone.,

maxdecatt Sun 16-Jun-19 09:51:36

You can rely on Gransnet to delete comments that are too close to the truth. Censorship is ineffective if you cannot delete the truth.

annep1 Sun 16-Jun-19 01:02:44

No doubt the next time a gang of terrorists run amok with knives and call it "Comedy" the Met will stand by and applaud their artistic endeavours in the name of edgey comedy. LOCK HER UP.
What a ridiculous statement lol!

lemon dear old lemon.....read back if you can....I believe 3 times i have said I don't care for her " joke".

Elvive Sat 15-Jun-19 22:33:53

here is some repeated content.....the police have much much better things to do , than follow up an accusation that somebody has looked at somebody else in a wrong way.

RUBBISH.

Oh how weird somebody has reported me, for what I wonder?

talking about unfunny comedians and silly remarks.....hilarious.

Elvive exactly who are you calling a ‘troll’.....and Labaik who are you calling a Farage supporter?
Both are stupid comments, as being disgusted by Jo Brands
Unfunny witterings about throwing battery acid ( and most people on this thread seem to agree that it was a horrible thing to say) does not make anyone on here either a ‘troll’ or a Farage supporter either, or can you not see that?
I blame both Brand and the BBC, one for saying it and the
Other for not editing it out. There is so much hate going on at the moment and also the feeling that if you dislike somebody enough it doesn’t matter how violent your language and ideas are, they are justified.Well, they’re not.

Labaik Sat 15-Jun-19 20:29:09

Methinks not; just a Farage supporter...

If Gransnet is anything to go by, far from racist offences being "made up", racism appears to be the name of the game these days. I'm disgusted by some of these comments.

Nobody would have been up in court for the remark that Jo Brand made - it did not incite violence.

mgtrob22 Sat 15-Jun-19 19:51:47

If any one of us had made that comment we would be up in court. It was horrendous, very wrong & in no way funny!. Has she never seen pictures of people who have had acid thrown over them and the dire consequences? It is only recently that a Mr. Van Donegen killed himself after suffering catastrophic injuries after this happened to him.

Elvive Sat 15-Jun-19 19:49:21

Oh hang on......somebody has just looked at me funny.....better call 999

It was a joke- in poor taste. She has agreed it was, has apologised...

Farage was not joking when he said he would pick up a gun and take to the streets - and has never apologised- did he?

Ilovecheese Sat 15-Jun-19 19:43:01

maxdecatt post was extremely unpleasant and untrue.

Elvive......All the more reason why such a remark by Jo Brand was so unwise don't you think.

Callistemon Sat 15-Jun-19 18:50:02

Joan Rivers died in September 2014, perhaps that is why you haven't heard her lately??
Oops, I did not mean to make an offensive joke!
