Instead of gloom and doom (plenty about) how about we lift our spirits with any good news we hear to cheer us up?
?

As in today:
“THE Wall Street banking giant JP Morgan is about to embark on a major hiring spree in the City, despite Jamie Dimon, the chief executive, previously warning about Brexit job losses.

The growth plans stand in contrast to repeated warnings made by the bank’s boss about the effect Brexit could have on UK staff numbers”

The sun is shining, I’m going to take some of my grandchildren to the beach, I am about to throw a flat pack DVD rack, I bought for the children into the bin, my husband warned against it, oh I can make it, I said, no chance!

So I’m putting Boris and DVD racks out of my mind for the day, of course it will still all be here when I get home, not to mention my husbands “told you so”

Yes, I take pleasure in superficial things, I don’t see any reason not to

Sara I wouldn’t use the word ‘superficial’. That’s diminishing really what for many of us makes life worth living at the everyday level. Some might say ‘simple’ things rather than superficial.

Our politics may be divisive and toxic at the moment, but I feel lucky to live in the UK rather than anywhere else in the world. Come to think of it at my age I'm happy to be alive anyway. smile.

Craftyone, just what do you do when we make trade agreements with the rest of the world and, hopefully, the EU? Each one is a sharing of sovereignty and each one will now cost us more.

craftyone Wed 24-Jul-19 11:30:31

who cares grace, as long as we can make our own decisions again, like we used to do. As long as the present feel good factor persists and grows. who cares for those imaginary `what ifs`.

Jabberwok Wed 24-Jul-19 11:38:26

craftyone ????!!

jura2 Wed 24-Jul-19 14:16:10

craftyone, could you kindly give us one exemple of decisions we did not make or were imposed on us, please?

Do you believe in Johnson's kippers, really?

Trading on WTO rules will make us vassals of the WTO- and we won't even have a say r representatives. Mind you, even the Head of the WTO has warned that we cannot trade on WTO as we wish, and will have no say in tariffs. Hurrah - take back control, NOT. And do you really think Trump will give us a 'good deal' without a massive price to pay both in financial and other terms??? Honestly?

jura2 Wed 24-Jul-19 14:17:05

superficial things - like the future of your grand-children. Do enjoy the beach, indeed .. and then?!?

lemongrove Wed 24-Jul-19 15:50:36

Oh Gawd!
Have a wine jura

GracesGranMK3 Wed 24-Jul-19 19:02:20

You are at least equally rude to everyone who doesn't agree with your views "*lemongrove*. That at least, and probably at most, can be said for you.

Sara65 Wed 24-Jul-19 19:22:42

Jura

We had a perfectly lovely day Thankyou, I don’t like the current situation at all, but I’m not going to let it spoil my pleasure in life

Sara65 Wed 24-Jul-19 19:23:57

Suziewoosie

Take your point

lemongrove Wed 24-Jul-19 20:52:46

That’s spooky GGM3.....as I was thinking the same of you .
?

lemongrove Wed 24-Jul-19 20:57:13

Yes suzywoozie the simple things of life are the best things! Politics comes way down the list, and there are too many people becoming stressed and downright angry because of it.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 24-Jul-19 21:24:44

"No worry, be happy"

We are gifted with one life, enjoy what you have. There is no point worrying about things we have no control over.

I don't understand why alcohol is seen as a panacea by some. Some of the nation's homeless started off thinking that a drink or two would alleviate distress.

petra Wed 24-Jul-19 22:19:14

growstuff
And by the same token most people who drink for pleasure don't become winos.

Siemens has announced it is going to build a £200 million train factory in Yorkshire, employing 700.

suziewoozie Mon 29-Jul-19 15:56:13

Yes Granny I thought this was good news when it was first announced last year and confirmed in May.

GracesGranMK3 Mon 29-Jul-19 16:03:40

I see Tesco has warned of empty shelves because stockpiling for no-deal Brexit ‘harder’ before Christmas.

GracesGranMK3 Mon 29-Jul-19 16:06:13

(5 hours ago ) Carlos Tavares, chief executive of Vauxhall’s owner PSA, is reported to have warned production of the Astra at its Ellesmere Port plant in north-west England could be moved abroad if Brexit made it unprofitable.

The comments will spark fresh alarm among more than 1,000 workers at the Cheshire plant and many others in the local supply chain.

Day6 Mon 29-Jul-19 16:08:31

I think it is good news that we have Gransnet and through it 'meet' or get to know (online) lots of lovely people, many of whom share our views, political or otherwise.

Lemon and GrannyGravy you are so right. It's a lovely day (not humid, for a change) and for now, Brexit, Boris and the rest of them can sling their hooks. It's good not to engage in political jousting all the time. Our views change nothing and I am going to spend my energy knocking back the big mug of tea OH has just delivered to the windowsill by my armchair! (We still make biscuits in the UK too!. Hurrah!) <eyes up a custard cream>

I don't think anyone has admitted to drinking excessively to drown their sorrows, have they?

However, for those of us who do enjoy a drink later in the day, it's a treat, one we couldn't indulge in mid-week if work loomed the next day.

Yes, drinking can lead to dependency, I think we all know that, but it's a bit of a downer growstuff to suggest those enjoying a drink are on the slippery slope and using it to 'alleviate stress'.

hmm

So do I Day6.

However, I think it is bad news when people try to enforce only what they think is good news about Brexit onto a thread. Either this is a very pleasant "Chat" thread or it should be an open thread with any news about Brexit.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 29-Jul-19 16:16:02

Yes suziewoozie it was approved on 26/7 so actually going ahead.
