I know we knew this would happen but it didn't stop my heart sinking when it was confirmed. It's not even about party politics. It's about him. The country is in such a terrible position and the thought of him being the one trying to solve all the problems is farcical at best and utterly depressing.

Well I thought Boris’s speech was very good & would far rather he was PM than Hunt.....look how he treated the NHS.We need to wait & see,Boris may come into his own,he’s like Marmite.....you either love him or hate him & I say give him a chance!Lets face it he can’t be any worse than May who lied to all of us about Brexit when in fact she was a dyed in the wool Remainer!Looking forward to a complete change & with Boris Hopefully we’‘ll get it.

I'm trying to wake up from a nightmare. Leave me to sleep. Tell me when it's safe.

Frankly - any woman who supports Boris - who gives him houseroom in the political arena doesn’t deserve a vote - he’s yet another old Etonian, a misogynist - He has no appreciation whatsoever of the concept of equality and his behaviour towards women is the evidence - charisma I hear - well honestly, charisma is the antithesis of the idea of allowing people to use their intelligence - it is a characteristic that simply deludes people preventing them from seeing beyond the magnetic person and into the selfish and brainless one - please ladies remember that Boris denigrates women - his promise of a female cabinet will be interesting to see - probably full of androgynous women loaded with privilege like him - sorry for the rant but I despair of humankind - we as a nation have intervened in world conflicts because of the characteristics of different countries’ presidents - look at us now

A man of which people?

Rowantree Wed 24-Jul-19 11:34:03

He's a man of the people, and will fight tooth and nail for the NHS.

Margs Wed 24-Jul-19 11:33:01

A serial adulterer, mysoginist, product of the Bullingdon Club, failed diplomat, buffoon, clumsy (and therefore dangerous) on every level, models himself on Donald Trump.......I could weep. Or laugh myself silly. I really don't know which......

I am sick to the back teeth of hearing Boris is clever. It's all an act, a front. A little bit of you tube showed me his embarrassing attempts to speak languages other than English.

He went to University. He wrote a book which is dire.

Many , many people are linguistically talented. I remember at a University open day meeting a young man who was studying to be an interpreter. He was self effacing, pleasant and fluent in several languages.

Many people thrive at University, sometimes even those without the silver spoon and daddy calling in some favours.

What is so clever about a liar, a racist, a man who doesn't read his notes before he opens his mouth?

No-one is questionning how Boris and Trump were elected - the question is why

Conni7 Wed 24-Jul-19 11:18:33

With all these criticisms, I do wonder how you think Trump and Boris were elected. Were they phantom voters?

petra 'the fate of Europe and possibly the world. Desperation-distraught
I'm sorry but I found this hilarious. I was reminded of Private Fraser in Dads Army: we're doomed doomed.'

if you have allowed this 'election' (by .2 of the population) to distract you from what is happening at the moment with Iran - the fact we do not have the naval capacity and power to keep our vessels, people and goods (including oil we need) - safe and have to go with begging bowl to Europe- and will be also dependent on Trump to help - and make us pay very heavily in exchange- then perhaps you will call the real concerns of those who understand the seriousness of the situation ' hilarious ' ...

open your eyes- the situation requires the calmest, and clearest headed foreing policy - not Boris's 'jump first and think later' idiocy. And yes, I do fear for our grandchildren in the near and long-term future, if that makes me 'overly dramatic' so be it.

He is like a small boy in the tuck shop.
After 40 years I tore up my membership of the Conservative Party yesterday and am running for the hills.

Quizzer Wed 24-Jul-19 11:03:13

What is wrong with people? Trump and Boris? How did this happen?

maryhoffman37 Wed 24-Jul-19 11:02:43

I don't know how we have come to this. Another thing to blame David Cameron, "my" ex-MP, for.

seadragon Wed 24-Jul-19 10:57:51

Apricity 'Emborisment'. Love that! Would love to use it but haven't figured out how to follow/or answer responses/private messages on this site yet!

SirChenjin Wed 24-Jul-19 10:41:21

Can we have some examples of BJ's intelligence to counter the many which demonstrate his lack of intelligence?

Callistemon Wed 24-Jul-19 10:39:13

the fate of Europe and possibly the world. Desperation-distraught

petra don't know who said that but it seems overly dramatic!
Will Europe collapse after Brexit? Are we the most powerful nation in the world?
Boris is just another PM in a long line of PMs, some good, some inept and some specious.

inishowen Wed 24-Jul-19 10:35:58

My seven year old granddaughter said "is he Donald Trump's brother?"

Margaux Wed 24-Jul-19 10:34:31

It's so sad, isn't it? He's supposed to be so clever - academically and all that - he is a character, he has charm and personality - and yet the prospect of Boris as PM is quite scary. And I dare say that if he has an ounce of sound common sense, he should be scared too.

Pity there's no real alternative. Farage? JC? Lady LibDem? Where have all the statesmen/ women gone?

Shelagh6 Wed 24-Jul-19 10:31:51

Give him a chance - lift up your spirits - stop spreading gloom - there are worse things, ie a Labour government and Jeremy Corbyn - then we would all have a much bigger problem - Boris is extremely clever - Corbyn is not! That’s quite important.

Bridgeit Wed 24-Jul-19 10:30:05

Now how does that saying go .......ahh yes
All mouth & no trousers. ...... we shall see

God help us all! I can only hope that there will be a GE soon. I really can't comprehend those who believe this man to be the best leader for our country, given the stuff he has done.

SirChenjin Wed 24-Jul-19 10:24:31

Well said Amagram

Blinko Wed 24-Jul-19 10:23:41

Optimism - otherwise known as a wing and a prayer?

EthelJ Wed 24-Jul-19 10:23:17

I agree mallows it is very, very depressing and a little scary too. He is almost as bad as Trump, self serving, vain and lazy. I just hope it is a very short lived premiership and we can all get back to sensible, grown up Government some time in the not to distant future.
