So it's Boris

I know we knew this would happen but it didn't stop my heart sinking when it was confirmed. It's not even about party politics. It's about him. The country is in such a terrible position and the thought of him being the one trying to solve all the problems is farcical at best and utterly depressing.

Grandad

I agree with your post.

The similarities/problems between the Labour and Conservative Parties are similar on so many fronts.

Smileless2012 Tue 23-Jul-19 20:09:49

Mr S saw this today and what worries me is that Benny Hill looks more intelligent than the other two

jura2 Tue 23-Jul-19 20:11:29

Urmstongran - you are right, I didn't vote for Boris Johnson, and neither did the vast majority of UK citizens. Could you remind us of the proportion of those who voted, and thos who were allowed to vote, please?

I voted to Remain too- as a British Citizen, I am allowed to vote, and will be for another 5 years.

jura2 Tue 23-Jul-19 20:14:59

Just in case you are not aware:

'Boris Johnson: the clown is crowned as the country burns in hell
It’s 33C in London, 0.2% of the nation has spoken' ...

a good article today in the Guardian. Even they do not make up the figures.

phoenix Tue 23-Jul-19 20:19:45

Oh here we go again, personal insults!

If we could just stick to insulting politicians, I'd be ok with that, as I'm sure would many others.

Lessismore Tue 23-Jul-19 20:24:41

I cited Grieve as someone who is fluent, who can speak the language as opposed to Boris, who isn't. Having a French mother and property in France doesn't make for linguistic fluency. I presume he must have worked at it.

Just as sputtering a few words of Italian or cobbling together a bit of French and school Latin doesn't make for fluency.

phoenix Tue 23-Jul-19 20:27:25

Plus ca change, plus ce le mem chose (sp)

Urmstongran Tue 23-Jul-19 20:31:25

I am polite MaizieD I didn’t use the ‘f’ word, nor call anyone a Remoaner. I just happen to have an opinion that jura2 is protesting too much about OUR choices over here since she has chosen to live in Switzerland - and then moans (or cries ... ? Really) when events here don’t pan out in her favour.

She has a lot to say on the political threads considering she’s not voting here!

jura2 Tue 23-Jul-19 20:37:42

Read again - I AM VOTING here ...

less than 0.5% of the population had a chance to vote for this PM, 0.2% elected him.

There are quite a few British expats on GN - and yet your criticisim are mostly aimed at me. As said above, why not chant 'send her home, send her home' ...

If I decide to go back to the UK one day. I will not be asking for your permission, for sure. It is my absolute right, just as it would be yours.

MaizieD Tue 23-Jul-19 20:37:43

Sneering xenophobic comments are just as rude as swearing, Ug

She has a lot to say on the political threads considering she’s not voting here!

I'd advise you to try reading jura's posts again. Then apologise...

varian Tue 23-Jul-19 20:39:17

As far as I know Jura is a UK citizen who has lived here for most of her life, bringing up her family and working as a teacher while her husband spent most of his working life as GP in the NHS, and so she is perfectly entitled to ezpress her view on British politics.

SirChenjin Tue 23-Jul-19 20:41:48

She is a British citizen Urm and before you continue with your increasingly nationalist comments which are verging on xenophobic and which are not painting you in a very good light, you might want to remember that we are all entitled to comment on other countries elections and referendums - even if we have absolutely no connection to them, unlike jura.

Using the f word or calling someone a Remoaner isn't the only definition of rude, and your opinions directed at a particular poster on the grounds of where she now lives is very rude.

SirChenjin Tue 23-Jul-19 20:42:28

are

jura2 Tue 23-Jul-19 20:42:34

Thanks Varian, and with kids and grandkids in the UK, being directly affected. And UK pensions only.

Will drop out of this- this is not about me, for sure.

But to my mind, racism and total lack of empathy is much much worse than using the 'f' word or being called a 'remoaner'.

POGS Tue 23-Jul-19 20:58:14

Jura

You are making the point again about who had the right to vote for the Prime Minister after Theresa May resigned..

When a General Election takes place it is a Political Party that wins, not an individual.

When a Leader of a Political Party resigns it is for their party to replace him/her.

This principle cannot be accepted if and when it suits us as individuals and not accepted if it does not, that is hypocrisy.

SirChenjin Tue 23-Jul-19 21:03:43

And what about the rest of her post POGS?

Caledonai14 Tue 23-Jul-19 21:10:24

Today, I was talking to a group of people from India, America, Northern Ireland, Spain and Germany when Boris's election result came out. Everyone went deathly quiet and they all looked at me for reaction. I genuinely wanted to cry.

When I got home, I saw the speech and was struck by how amused and mocking Boris seemed to be by it all. Great for a Mayor or a motivational after-dinner speaker, but for a man taking over at a time of mounting international crises in Iran, off Japan and here with Brexit? Truly scary.

If you believe in a God, I'd start praying.

SirChenjin Tue 23-Jul-19 21:12:42

And please remember Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe in those prayers.

Urmstongran Tue 23-Jul-19 21:17:56

Ah. I see you do vote here jura ‘for another 5 years’ Does that mean you’ve only chosen to live in Switzerland for 10 so far? Just before Clegg got into bed with Cameron then.

Actually you’re right phoenix I shan’t comment further on jura’s choices and how they affect those of us who actually live here.

SirChenjin Tue 23-Jul-19 21:20:41

No apology for your shocking rudeness then?

lemongrove Tue 23-Jul-19 21:40:47

Does it matter how fluent/ not that Johnson is? Hardly all that important for a British PM.I would have thought there are more pressing things to worry about.

SirChenjin Tue 23-Jul-19 21:50:05

It does if you're planning to do really important things on the world stage like presenting a speech in french on foreign policy issues to the people you called turds. As the saying goes, better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt - especially if you're not a fluent as you think you are.

MaizieD Tue 23-Jul-19 21:50:22

Far from apologising, SirChenjin, she appears to be compounding it.

SirChenjin Tue 23-Jul-19 22:03:06

It certainly seems that way. Awful behaviour.

KatyK Tue 23-Jul-19 22:12:02

That picture is very funny *Smileless"
