Johnson and Brexit

In his statement Johnson underlined his pledge to ditch the Irish backstop, and ramp up preparations for no deal, and to leave on 31st October regardless of what happens.

Mays withdrawal agreement has been binned, however in a phone call Juncker signalled the EU27s intention of sticking with the deal already negotiated by the British Government. This includes the backstop.

Juncker told Johnson that the EU would be prepared to alter the political declaration.
Ireland has declared itself as “alarmed”
Barnier signalled that Johnson’s rhetoric almost certainly meant that the U.K. was going into a GE.

Expect a huge public information campaign and a large level of spending in preparation for no deal.

How about staying with the politics. (Fri 30-Aug-19 17:13:26)

Well, if you want to sound like the Daily Mail or Sun ( which I doubt you do want) carry on with the slurs about a politician’s
Children calling him a selfish bastard etc etc.and not wanting to know him.
He’s not my choice as PM but I draw the line at that for any Politician. (Fri 30-Aug-19 17:24:22)

So Lemongrove, how about YOU sticking with the politics? Let's face it, it would be a first for you. You seem to be simply unable to bear not to tell people what to do and here you are ... doing exactly the same thing again while having a go at any poor GN poster you can attack.

lemongrove Fri 30-Aug-19 18:35:54

Sorry GGM3 it’s my policy not to answer any of your posts at all.

GracesGranMK3 Fri 30-Aug-19 18:44:33

Oh good. That's one less nasty to have to avoid in my life.

GracesGranMK3 Fri 30-Aug-19 18:45:08

Just have to wonder though. Are you the chairwoman of your local WI?

Firecracker123 Fri 30-Aug-19 18:46:34

Lemongrove I don't blame you, some nasty ones on here ?

lemongrove Fri 30-Aug-19 19:13:58

Indeed Firecracker ?

GracesGranMK3 Fri 30-Aug-19 19:31:21

A small return of what I have been on the receiving end of Lemongrove

growstuff Fri 30-Aug-19 20:15:26

Maybe you should ask Dominic Cummings what being nasty really means:

Whitewavemark2 Fri 30-Aug-19 20:55:18

This can’t last. Cummings will overplay his hand. Well that s if Johnson has spine enough to reel him in, which I doubt.

GracesGranMK3 Fri 30-Aug-19 22:31:49

Goodness. Maybe the denouement will be Cumming leaving with men in white coats. I would say he is a very sick soul.

growstuff Fri 30-Aug-19 22:37:03

Have you ever read his blog?

If you have sleep problems, I would definitely recommend it as bedtime reading.

Being "sick" usually means being sorry for a person. I don't feel the slightest bit sorry for him. He certainly shows signs of extreme obsession, narcissism and megalomania.

Johnson needs to sack him now, but who will take Johnson aside and tell him that? He's got rid of all the sensible cabinet ministers and civil servants. The people left are apparatchiks who rely on Johnson for their pay cheques.

SirChenjin Sat 31-Aug-19 08:14:19

shock

It’s all very Trumpesque isn’t it?

Whitewavemark2 Sat 31-Aug-19 08:24:47

growstuff he is obsessed about game theory isn’t he? That is what I think he is trying to play out to our detriment over Brexit. That is why his theory can’t work without the threat of no deal.

Sod the country, everything bows to his game theory.

The man thinks he has the brain of those who invented the theory, but he is sadly mistaken and far too little (look at his recent sacking of Javid assistant) to come anywhere near.

growstuff Sat 31-Aug-19 08:34:56

I agree. It seems he's obsessed with the end game and it doesn't matter how he gets there.

He doesn't care about people or even whether leaving the EU is a good idea. He's not even very good at politics because he doesn't seem to realise that in negotiations, each side has to offer something. He doesn't want to offer anything. He's manipulating the moves to create a cliff edge, in the hope that the other side won't want to jump off.

Yanis Varoufakis thought he could use game theory when Greece was in financial difficulties.

growstuff Sat 31-Aug-19 08:36:15

Yes, it's frighteningly Trumpesque.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 31-Aug-19 08:39:02

It is astounding that our country is subject to one mans obsession. He is no politician, and there is nothing nuanced about his approach.

The man is a menace and Johnson should be rid of him before he causes collapse and chaos.

GracesGranMK3 Sat 31-Aug-19 08:43:20

I was concerned about his level of control before but it is much, much worse than I had imagined.

growstuff Sat 31-Aug-19 08:49:16

Yes, he should but I wouldn't mind betting you he doesn't. Even Sajid Javid has "voiced anger" (as the BBC puts it) over the sacking of his media assistant without telling him, but I guess it depends whether Johnson has anybody else lined up to be Chancellor. Javid had already been stopped from making an announcement about something else.

Cummings is the puppet master and Johnson is the entertainer. Johnson has never been good on details and strategy, so they make a fine pair.

Johnson will walk away from all this at some stage and make a big joke about it. The media will still pay for his appearances to tell "jolly" stories about he used to be PM and took the country crashing out of the EU. What a piffling little lark!! What? Pass the Bolly!

SirChenjin Sat 31-Aug-19 09:14:50

Apparently (and it’s the Sun so who knows, it just appeared on my news feed) he’s going to sack all MPs who vote to block a no deal.

Does anyone have any idea what Cummings long term plan for this country is? Tax haven??

Whitewavemark2 Sat 31-Aug-19 13:28:06

labaik I suspect it won’t be good.

Adonis has reported that Cummings hero’s are all nihilists and authoritarian. It certainly fits with his behaviour, so I think there is truth in that.

Think far right, and we will be more or less right.

SirChenjin Sat 31-Aug-19 14:17:07

So true varian

Yes, I think tax haven - but who knows. That’s one of the great joys of leaving the EU - no-one has a clue what we’ve just signed up to. It’s like opening a beautifully wrapped parcel on Christmas Day and find a single withered Brussel sprout and a pair of second hand knickers inside.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 31-Aug-19 15:40:39

Just been looking at Cummings blog.

He’s as mad as a box of frogs. Just like a teenage rant.

SirChenjin Sat 31-Aug-19 17:24:14

Yep - add a mad frog to my Christmas box
