WWMK2 Parliament have been debating Brexit for three years whilst getting very little other business done.

What difference does three days make?

It is not the Prorogation of Parliament that is the issue, that is quite normal.

It is the length of time, 23 days, that is the problem.

Tory MPs will vote to bring down the government, Dominic Grieve has said in the wake of shock news Boris Johnson will suspend parliament just weeks before the Brexit deadline.

The former attorney general Grieve has warned the new prime minister rebel Tories are ready to back a no-confidence motion and tear down Johnson’s administration over what the MP called a “reckless” and “unconstitutional” bid to avoid scrutiny in the Commons.

The prime minister was accused of a “coup” and of behaving like a “tin pot dictator” on Wednesday as he revealed he would ask the Queen to prorogue parliament from mid-September to mid-October.

Fears that Britain is now poised to tumble out of the European Union on October 31 without a deal, something the own government’s analysis has said will lead to a hard border in Northern Ireland, food and fuel shortages, riots and chaos at UK ports.

Johnson insisted that MPs will still have time to debate Brexit and that he was suspending parliament so he can set out a new domestic agenda in a fresh Queen’s speech on October 14.

Grieve said Tory backbenchers will not allow parliament’s voice to be muffled.

“I have always made clear that I want to stop a no-deal Brexit. I will take staged, graded measures to do it,” he said.

“I would wish if at all possible to avoid bringing down a Conservative government on a vote of no confidence but if that is what is ultimately took I would be willing to do it.

“I think there are a number of colleagues who have said exactly the same thing.”

Former justice secretary David Gauke, who resigned when Johnson was elected Tory leader, warned that the PM was setting a “dangerous precedent”.

Is this dissolution of democracy what you Leavers voted for? Or is there some small part of you which feels uneasy about the way this is being pushed through by a tiny band of extreme right wing Tories?

I have to agree Grandad. I never thought I would live through our parliament being treated like this. It seems we have a putative dictator.

Next two weeks crucial. Boris is taking over Parliament against the MPs.

On hearing the news that Johnson is about to suspend Parliament to allow for a no-deal Brexit, everyone in this office stopped and could not believe what they were hearing.

In all probability, an immediate motion of no confidence in this government on the return of Parliament next week is now the only way forward to stop this government taking this country out of the European Union without the involvement of Parliament.

There could also be the possibility that the monarch could refuse to sign of Johnson's wishes.

Surely this has to be the largest threat to democracy and stability of this country since the fifteenth century.

They are trying to remove any 'meaningful' vote of no confidence.

They would be back before the 31st. There is a Queens speech in mid-October (if he does this) which, if it is voted down acts as a vote of no confidence. Johnson will no doubt paint that, in the subsequent election, as parliament against the people.

But if Parliament were to be prorogued, GG2, there would be no opportunity for a vote of no confidence.

It still seems to be high level chatter but it would force both the timing of the no no-deal move and the chances of a vote of no confidence. The Johnson part of the Cons seem to be very keen on an election based on Brexit as far as I can see.

This is unbelievable

IDS is starting the "where the blame lies" with his nasty comments again. Yes, the aim of some of the group is to stop Brexit, but a) that is not the aim of all of the group and b) the only aim agreed upon was to stop no deal. No deal is only, as far as I can find, wanted by a third of voters (currently 34%). If anyone else knows differently they should show us.

Those at the meeting have now agreed to pursue the legislative route to preventing a no deal brexit.

Mood music coming from the meeting this morning to plan to prevent a no deal sounds positive.

Let’s hope that they are disciplined enough to carry it through.

Apparently as Scotland has increased police numbers and has lowered crime OUR police will be drafted into NI in the event of a no deal Brexit.Even though we dont want brexit and our police service is a seperate entity from teh other UK forces,because it will be a "National emergency" they can take our police and put then in the direct line of danger policing a country where they wont be welcome .Am I angry ..you bet I am.I'm livid ,let Boris and his fellow brexiteers patrol and see how they get on and leave our people out of it .
