So all leavers. Assuming all the other political parties are supporting another referendum or remain,

Will you vote for a new type of hard right Tory party which will be culmination of the extreme hard right ambition or stay loyal to and send a message to the moderate Tory party in the new independent MPs.

?
Sweeping statements from you WWM2.....you know him personally I take it?

lemongrove Tue 03-Sept-19 09:43:34

Of course all other advisors (Seamus Milne anyone?) are wonderful human beings, totally moral and totally unambitious with no personal or political agendas.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 03-Sept-19 09:56:46

WWMK2 “I suspect he is on the spectrum”......low, very low!!!!!

Didn’t realise you were DCs Doctor, what gives you the right to “bandy” diagnoses for someone, something which you are totally unqualified for.

There are Gransnetters who have C and GC on the spectrum.

If this is how those who voted remain think, I am really appalled!!!

lemongrove Tue 03-Sept-19 10:08:00

I’m not at all surprised GG13 by it, these casual assumptions that somebody is ‘on the spectrum’ ( usually somebody they don’t like!) are all too often bandied about.?

Whitewavemark2 Tue 03-Sept-19 10:09:04

gg13 the comment was made in light of Cummings blog and his speeches etc. I did not make the comment from ignorance. My first career was in special education.

gallusquine Tue 03-Sept-19 10:10:10

WWMK2 that is indeed out of order
GrannyGravy13 your remark aligning those who voted remain with WWMK2 is equally low.
Someone please raise this debate out of the gutter !

Whitewavemark2 Tue 03-Sept-19 10:10:42

Try not to make your comments personal as it is never a good outcome if you do so.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 03-Sept-19 10:12:48

More evidence of the Tory party tearing apart

Tom Newton Dunn
Sir Nicholas Soames tells me he will vote against the Govt tonight, unless the PM (who he’s going to see now) can assure him a Brexit deal will be done. Boris therefore faces the uncomfortable prospect of deselecting Winston Churchill’s grandson.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 03-Sept-19 10:15:33

Please think on this.

Not one of those busily criticising my comment on Cummings has also said the same when posts have suggested that Trump may be suffering from some sort of dementia.
A bit of balance would be welcome.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 03-Sept-19 10:15:59

I have first hand experience of the “spectrum” and it is vastly becoming a throwaway remark.

WWMK2 if you have experience in SEN I find your remark doubly offensive.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 03-Sept-19 10:17:51

Then let me apologise for the offence gg13

GrannyGravy13 Tue 03-Sept-19 10:17:52

WWMK2 I have never alluded to anyone’s health, unless the person in question has made public their health /mental health diagnosis.

Nonnie Tue 03-Sept-19 10:18:02

Urmstongran Mon 02-Sep-19 18:02:22 you are mistaken, Hammond has said today that he is sticking to his guns.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 03-Sept-19 10:18:53

WWMK2, crossed posts, I accept your apology.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 03-Sept-19 10:19:40

It would be interesting to see a list of rebels who will be de-selected, if Johnson carries out his threat.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 03-Sept-19 10:25:53

I sincerely hope that GN is not a mirror of the “real world” because if so I despair.

I cannot see a solution acceptable to either side.

Perhaps the main parties should cancel their conferences (I assume they would have taken out “cancellation insurance”) be put in “lockdown” inside the H of P until they have sorted out this flipping mess.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 03-Sept-19 10:26:54

Sorry not very clear on my above post...... I despair the “entrenched” opposing positions.

MaizieD Tue 03-Sept-19 10:28:46

Perhaps the main parties should cancel their conferences

Not possible if the prorogation goes ahead. Parliament closed.

If you haven't heard the R4 interview with Phillip Hammond this morning, you can listen to it on iplayer - it started at about 8.10am)

Hammond, who was yesterday readopted as the Conservative candidate by his constituency association, spoke with increasing anger about Boris Johnson, and in particular his advisor Dominic Cummings, describing him as an "entryist"and also poopooed any claim that negotiations are even going on with the EU.

There is also a piece in today's Telegraph, where Cummings was overheard admitting that the negotiations were "a sham".

Yes varian I saw and heard both.

It is yet more evidence of a once great party falling apart.

Those in the Tory party who opposed Johnson’s election must be tearing their hair out.

jura2 Tue 03-Sept-19 10:51:12

they should totally ignore Johnson's threats- hope they do.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 03-Sept-19 11:08:00

List of the alternative Tory Party.

There are many reasons for their rebellion, but interestingly Johnson (Cummings) recent foot in the mouth tactics are frequently cited.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 03-Sept-19 11:58:39

So true
Best for Britain
To add some perspective, all Brexiter accusations against moderate MPs resisting a disorderly exit, only hold true if one assumes those MPs are acting in bad faith. If one accepts they honestly believe the consequences of no deal to be catastrophic, they are absolute heroes. ~
·
This, I think, is a point not made nearly often or strongly enough. These MPs are refusing to acquiesce to something that they believe will hurt a lot of people. Their position is supported by every piece of analysis. They are not "rebels". They are the adults in the room.

GillT57 Tue 03-Sept-19 12:53:50

I think you can possible add Sajid Javed to that list too. He has been very badly treated by Cummings, emasculated by Johnson who did not even have the courtesy to consult, let alone advise about the sacking of his special advisor, and must surely also be smarting about the grievous insult of his non invitation to the Trump visit banquet. It is time he put his self respect before his wobbly career, and stood up for himself.

Shoequeen53 Tue 03-Sept-19 14:46:32

The thought of all Conservative associations disobeying Johnson and Cummings and refusing to deselect their MPs fills me with unalloyed joy. Apparently they’re planning to foist a hardline Brexiteer on Greening’s remain constituency, that’ll be a new seat for the Libdems then.
