So all leavers. Assuming all the other political parties are supporting another referendum or remain,

Will you vote for a new type of hard right Tory party which will be culmination of the extreme hard right ambition or stay loyal to and send a message to the moderate Tory party in the new independent MPs.

So true gmarie

What a nation we have become, with a choice between a Marxist Leninist or an extreme right wing anti-democratic liar. For myself having joined the Labour Party 60 years ago, I suggest if you are in England and want to continue with our parliamentary democracy next time you must vote SD, Green or Centre Party. Sad days

varian Tue 03-Sept-19 21:24:58

LibDem is your best choice apsthame

Mogg been called out over his disgraceful body language

Whitewavemark2 Tue 03-Sept-19 21:41:08

MN reporting that - Whip being withdrawn from rebels as they debate.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 03-Sept-19 21:41:53

So now Johnson will go for a GE.

petra Tue 03-Sept-19 21:51:54

One Tory crosses the floor and one top Libdem leaves to join Labour.
I think the Libdems should have looked Phillip Lees voting record before accepting him.
They must be desperate to accept someone who votes against everything they believe in ?

varian Tue 03-Sept-19 22:00:54

Which top LibDem has joined Labour???

Whitewavemark2 Tue 03-Sept-19 22:08:22

Johnson’s first vote as PM and he’s on course to lose

Whitewavemark2 Tue 03-Sept-19 22:11:25

I thought Philip Lee went from Tory to Liberal

growstuff Tue 03-Sept-19 22:29:10

Which LibDem has joined Labour?

growstuff Tue 03-Sept-19 22:30:42

Dr Phillip Lee has joined the LibDems from Conservatives.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 03-Sept-19 22:31:15

I don’t think it was a MP I think it was a Lib official who represents LGBT in protest at Lee.

growstuff Tue 03-Sept-19 22:33:28

Ah! Thank you for the reply, Whitewave. Do you feel strongly about LGBT rights, petra?

Anja Tue 03-Sept-19 22:41:22

Back to the OPs question....possibly now that some Tories have put the interests of the country ahead of their own political ambitions. Thought Ken Clarke nailed it in his speech,

MaizieD Tue 03-Sept-19 22:43:10

So, we won't get a no deal Brexit. If the Rebel Alliance is wise Johnson won't get to choose his GE date, either. He needs 433 votes to get it and he hasn't got them. Let him stew. A50 extension, then he can put his failed plans to the public in a GE. His attempt to bypass Parliamentary democracy has royally peed off an awful lot of people...

Luckygirl Tue 03-Sept-19 22:51:01

Will the Tory party survive this crisis? - well frankly who cares?

growstuff Tue 03-Sept-19 22:54:24

Yes, it has. I know from my own contacts and experience that the attack on democracy and the law has energised people who wouldn't normally be bothered by politics and those who aren't ardent Remainers. Johnson and Cummings have gone too far.

growstuff Tue 03-Sept-19 23:01:21

I care, Luckygirl, because I'm interested in knowing how it will all turn out. My personal view is that the Conservative Party as many have known it over the last few decades is over. It's struggled to recruit new and younger members for quite some time. I don't know whether it's true, but it's said that the average age of Conservative Party members is 72.

I think we're going to see some kind of new right wing party. Whether it's a Trump-style/Brexit Party grouping or something more "one nation Conservatism" I haven't a clue, but I think it's inevitable. It happened in the US. People forget that the Democrats were once the "conservatives". It's also happening in Germany.

GracesGranMK3 Tue 03-Sept-19 23:08:05

"So, we won't get a no deal Brexit"

Might be worth not counting chickens yet Maizie after what we have seen with the Rasputin in the background, but I hope you are right.

Shoequeen53 Tue 03-Sept-19 23:30:42

I think Rasputin might be on his way out. He’s misjudged a few things but thinking the threat of withdrawal of the whip would make “the rebels” toe the line may be the straw that broke the camel’s back. Not only did Boris lose but he looked a complete idiot. He won’t forgive that easily.
