Commons voted 328 to 301 to take control of the agenda, meaning they can bring forward a bill seeking to delay the UK's exit date.

It comes to something when it’s the government v parliament!

SirChenjin Tue 03-Sept-19 22:50:21

Excellent news - and I hope JRM uses the time to reflect on his idiotic behaviour in the Commons tonight

growstuff Tue 03-Sept-19 23:13:56

I hope JRM's constituents reflect on what kind of person they have representing them and vote for somebody else in the next GE.

I don't expect it will bother him that much, apart from denting his inflated ego. He doesn't need his MP's salary.

Dinahmo Tue 03-Sept-19 23:17:31

He looked somewhat deflated after the result was announced and BJ looked very rattled. I don't think either of them thought that they would loose.

Doodledog Tue 03-Sept-19 23:22:03

He looked positively glum, which probably means that he's not going to make the killing he expected when he stashed his money away in Dublin.

His arrogance when he feigned sleep during the debate would have been unbelievable in anyone else.

growstuff Tue 03-Sept-19 23:22:20

If they honestly didn't realise that there was as strong possibility that they would lose, it just show how out of touch they are.

Doodledog Tue 03-Sept-19 23:26:28

I think the concept of putting principle ahead of self-interest is alien to a lot of them. They really didn't expect fellow Tories to vote in a way that would get them deselected.

Urmstongran Tue 03-Sept-19 23:38:38

Lost by 27 votes.
Of which 21 were Conservatives in his own party.

I know.
Still lost by 6.

paddyann Tue 03-Sept-19 23:42:24

then theres the "scottish" branch of the Tory party who IF they represented the people who voted for them wouldn't have voted with Boris.Dont fancy their chances of being re elected in a GE

growstuff Tue 03-Sept-19 23:55:54

I suspect you're right, Doodlebug.

And Bercow has lost the plotshock

Davidhs Wed 04-Sept-19 06:17:10

So the rebels have raised their heads above the parapet and the PM has a majority of -43 . Bercow I’m sure will do everything he can to ensure the bill gets passed. The mood parliament is in a determined mood and I’m sure they will refuse a GE.

The Backstop deal is still on offer I don’t like it but it is the only alternative to No Brexit and may well be more attractive in the current climate but not for 6 weeks. I did enjoy seeing that pompous ass JRM deflated.

crystaltipps Wed 04-Sept-19 06:18:12

You mean there’s a plot?
This is all like some ghastly soap opera - who’s going to resign next? When is the next lie coming? As for J Tres Smugg was he waiting for nanny to come with his mug of cocoa? It’s a gift for the opposition election posters.

travelsafar Wed 04-Sept-19 06:58:21

Was this televised yesterday? If yes, what time and what channel. Hardly saw tv yesterday and didnt have the radio on, out and about andthen busy when i got home. So mad i missed it.

Anja Wed 04-Sept-19 07:32:21

Rees-Mogg reclining, sprawled across three seats in the HoC, smirking shows his physical embodiment of arrogance, entitlement, disrespect and contempt for our parliament.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 04-Sept-19 07:46:13

It seems that Cummings plan is coming to fruition.

BlueBelle Wed 04-Sept-19 07:51:36

Hip hip hooray

lemongrove Wed 04-Sept-19 08:28:46

There are no hoorays for anyone BlueBelle at the moment.
Uncertainty is still the order of the day.

SirChenjin Wed 04-Sept-19 08:34:37

Hoorays for the massive, long term uncertainty that will follow a no deal Brexit are OK - for parliamentary democracy, not so much.

Barmeyoldbat Wed 04-Sept-19 08:49:01

Well I watched the debate and I thought that JC speech was excellent on the other hand Boris just mumbled and lied his way through his speech.

Expect to hear a lot of abuse from the leavers now the tables are turned.

Pythagorus Wed 04-Sept-19 10:05:29

So it’s an election. I knew it would be and so did the government. I received a form to update those in my household eligible to vote a few days ago. Preparations are underway! What a mess!

icanhandthemback Wed 04-Sept-19 10:06:47

No abuse here, Barmeyoldbat, just deep sadness that our country is in such a state. I don't think anyone has a reason to crow. We are still in a state of flux and I don't think it is going to get any better in the near future.

maryhoffman37 Wed 04-Sept-19 10:08:33

Bercow is playing a blinder!

Mamar2 Wed 04-Sept-19 10:08:36

What is going on? I don't understand any of it. Hang on tho it might be because I've chosen not to. A load of pillocks IMHO. Makes me so angry! GB is now a laughing stock. ?
