Well that’s it. We’re not leaving the EU. The people in charge won’t allow it.

What the ‘people’ want counts for nothing.

I hope all the traitors & enemies of the people are happy. angry

According to the Independent Cummings DOES have a family farm and it will lose about £200,000 a year. I wonder why he wants to leave the EU. I wouldn’t if it were giving me that kind of an income.

No SirChenin, on that we can agree. The rich get richer.........

SirChenjin Thu 05-Sept-19 10:42:14

I suspect MH will find some other way to make up that shortfall - he won't lose out.

maddyone Thu 05-Sept-19 10:41:50

Do Cummings and Johnson have family farms then?

maddyone Thu 05-Sept-19 10:41:05

I’m sure Michael Heseltine is indeed worried about losing his £90,000, so would I be if I were in receipt of £90,000 a year.

SirChenjin Thu 05-Sept-19 10:40:44

And I believe the Johnson and Cummings family farms also do very nicely out of farm subsidies. I suspect that they will do everything in their power to ensure this form of payment continues after Brexit (increased, if they can get away with it)

MaizieD Thu 05-Sept-19 10:37:04

I could point out that the farming community were very worried about the loss of the EU subsidy and that Michael Gove, when Environment Secretary said that the UK would make sure they didn't lose out. So no doubt those landowners would still get their money.

Anyway, we've been through all this farm subsidy business before. We have absolutely no proof at all the these recipients are just trousering the money instead of ploughing it back into their farming enterprises.

Arch Brexiter James Dyson isn't averse to pocketing a substantial sum for his extensive land holdings...

If there was any real concern for workers, there would be a realisation that having an unlimited supply of workers means that there is a downward pressure on wages, which is why British workers have seen their wages remain low over a number of years. The EU has two functions, one is to support big business wherever possible, which is really what free movement is all about, it’s a never ending supply of cheap labour, and two, it is a political project designed to concentrate power over a huge swathe of land in the hands of an unelected elite, who reward themselves handsomely. They also reward handsomely the vast quantities of bureaucrats needed to administrate this vast project in order to ensure their support. The EU is not about supporting the little man or woman. Unfortunately over the last 40+ years Britain has become so entangled in the millions of laws, treaties and directives that it has become almost impossible to extricate ourselves from it. The remainers are cheering that that this is so whilst leavers are despairing.

It would be interesting to see which MPs who are doing all they can to avoid Brexit are earning money from the EU!

The big earners in government and the city are all keen to stop Brexit because it will affect their pockets. They feign concern for the workers who may lose their jobs but it's really all about their own incomes.

Thank you, MaizieD flowers and my apologies to Amagran blush and the rest of you for the lowered standard of discourse that our president has unleashed upon the world. angry

maddyone Thu 05-Sept-19 09:28:00

And all the indignation, so freely expressed over a good period of time, over rich people eg JRM who have either earned or inherited their money. The double standards are astounding.

Amagran Thu 05-Sept-19 09:11:45

Traitors, enemies

I couldn't agree more Riverwalk. Until Trump started using this sort of inflammatory language and it started spilling over into the UK since 2016, it was never used so freely in the context of our own political debate. It used to be possible to hold opposing views, in and out of Parliament, and for those views to be respected, though still argued down, without using the sort of language which can so easily erode and undermine democracy.

MaizieD Thu 05-Sept-19 09:11:38

All this indignation about farm subsidies hmm.

I thought you Leavers adored rich people; ReesMogg, Johnson, Farage....

maddyone Thu 05-Sept-19 09:09:28

Well no doubt the 58 beneficiaries of money from the CAP budget will certainly want us to swallow our pride. If I was being paid by the EU, I’d want us to swallow our pride.

Luckygirl Thu 05-Sept-19 09:08:45

The people in charge won’t allow it - I wonder who these people are.

MaizieD Thu 05-Sept-19 09:07:47

I truly don't understand why those of you who want to leave are not in favor of doing it with intelligent planning and thoughtful consideration of those affected.

Thank you gmarie. It's good to have a judgement from someone on the outside of the debate. Too much emotion flying around in the UK for anyone to be truly objective.

maddyone Thu 05-Sept-19 09:06:46

It’s money from the much maligned CAP budget.

growstuff Thu 05-Sept-19 09:06:21

Have a read of this article by Peter Oborne, the former Telegraph and Daily Mail columnist, who voted to leave...

www.opendemocracy.net/en/opendemocracyuk/i-was-strong-brexiteer-now-we-must-swallow-our-pride-and-think-again/

(And if you have ten minutes, watch the film he made about the people who live on the Irish border and which I posted on the Irish thread.)

maddyone Thu 05-Sept-19 09:06:05

Yes Blinko, it’s because they are land owners.

maddyone Thu 05-Sept-19 09:05:19

Apparently about 58 MPs and Members of the House of Lords are earning money from the EU through farming subsidies. And they don’t want us to leave, I wonder why?

Blinko Thu 05-Sept-19 09:05:00

Wouldn't any farming subsidy be for their constituents, though? I hadn't heard that individuals could benefit from it... Oh, if they own a farm. I see.

Firecracker123 Thu 05-Sept-19 09:00:23

Fooled by the money grabbing Remainer MPs.

Firecracker123 Thu 05-Sept-19 08:55:37

Yes and they tell us leavers we didn't know what we were voting for, it's the hoodwinked Remainers who didn't know what they were voted for, they were fooled by the EU ?

crystaltipps Thu 05-Sept-19 08:52:56

What money are MPs “earning” from the EU.? What money are some MPs “earning” from big business? What money are MPs “earning” from the decline in sterling and putting their money in Euros? Let’s see the whole picture.

maddyone Thu 05-Sept-19 08:52:13

Oh the old Mogg argument again grin
