Well that’s it. We’re not leaving the EU. The people in charge won’t allow it.

What the ‘people’ want counts for nothing.

I hope all the traitors & enemies of the people are happy. angry

gillybob Wed 04-Sept-19 07:12:20

I was thinking something similar Kandisnsky.

I was a Remain voter but can’t help but think that this is so anti democratic . I was so angry last night and vowed to stay away from the political threads and even avoid the news . What do these people want ? Another 3 years of talking ? Another referendum? Best of 3 ? I actually think Boris had us in a good place with the EU by saying we are leaving with or without a deal on October 31st . Surely that alone would make them sit up and think. But none because of those who think they know better than their constituents we are left looking like the laughing stock and will literally have to bend over and get thrashed by the EU who must be laughing their bloody socks off .

As I said I voted Remain I wanted Brexit to go away but this is something else and I am very angry.

gillybob Wed 04-Sept-19 07:13:22

Sorry if that rant reads like gobbledygook. I’m sure you get what I mean . blush

BlueSapphire Wed 04-Sept-19 07:20:30

Quite agree with you two, Kandinsky and gillybob. I usually leave the politics threads well alone but I am so cross. Nuff said.

Kandinsky Wed 04-Sept-19 07:21:57

No you’re right gillybob
They never wanted brexit in the 1st place ( the majority of them anyway ) and all they’ve done since the day after the referendum is try and sabotage the process. They’re protecting their own interests.

We’re not leaving.
And remainers talk about democracy hmm

They’ve basically told 17 million leave voters to F**k off.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 04-Sept-19 07:26:10

Endless talking and delaying the "exit date" is doing more harm to the UK economy and democracy than leaving the EU could!!!

How are companies meant to forward plan?

gillybob Wed 04-Sept-19 07:27:31

Exactly .

I really thought Boris had us in a good place and that the EU would have been taking notice that we were leaving on 31st October NO MATTER WHAT ! But obviously those who “know better” than the voters have now sabotaged any chance we had of getting a better deal . I look at JC’s smug little puppet weasel face and I feel the need to punch him.

Who wants another year or 3 of this sh*t ? Not me that’s for sure and the uncertainty is killing UK business .

Anja Wed 04-Sept-19 07:28:58

I admire those who are standing up to Johnson who clearly only wants to leave with no deal. The informed British public don’t want to leave with a no deal....those who voted leave were told ‘of course the EU will fall over themselves to give us a deal’.

But then that was from Boris who is a well known liar and frankly, a self-serving idiot.

I can understand your viewpoint Kandinsky if you have are retired, have a good works pension, private health care and healthy savings, you will be OK I expect.

But spare a thoight for those who might well lose their jobs, small businesses struggling to get by, those with health issue who rely on the NHS, farmers and fishermen.

I wouldn't surprised if we head towards a civil breakdown in this country. No democracy, this is not a free country, it is one that opposes democracy. We have been too tolerant of people who are really our enemies. I am glad I won't see the complete demise of this land. Feel so bad for my beautiful grandchildren, with their honest cal yes, witnessing these shamefull events of the last three years. It's been an utter disgrace. I will never go to France again, their petulant, aggressive attitude to keep us in, they need our money, no other reason, is hateful.

Riverwalk Wed 04-Sept-19 07:33:44

Traitors, enemies

It's not a war, although Johnson likes to present it as such with talk of surrender and white flags.

It's a disgraceful use of deliberately inflammatory language.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 04-Sept-19 07:34:28

Anja, speaking as a small business owner, the uncertainty is what is going to damage our turnover!!!

We have supply contracts ready to go, that willl not go anywhere until this shower of MPs sort their s**t out!!!

Peonyrose Wed 04-Sept-19 07:34:37

Sorry, honest values, was meant, something those rioters have no conception of.

Dyffryn Wed 04-Sept-19 07:36:06

The politicians have more information than we have about what a no deal would mean for this country. All they have done is attempt to stop a no deal. We vote these people in so if you want someone to blame, blame yourselves for voting them in.

Riverwalk Wed 04-Sept-19 07:38:05

What rioters?

GagaJo Wed 04-Sept-19 07:49:33

'Traitors', 'enemy of the people'? Hyperbole.

BlueBelle Wed 04-Sept-19 07:50:58

Well done them

Whitewavemark2 Wed 04-Sept-19 07:52:41

What ever happens we MUST STOP A NO DEAL.

The pain and frustration you are feeling now at parliaments intransigence will be nothing compared to what you will feel like if we have the chaos of no deal.

There are only about 60 people in the commons who want no deal as well as Cummings. That should tell you all you need to know.

Bear with the parliamentarians as they go through this gargantuan struggle and support your MP in her/his effort to prevent no deal.

Anja Wed 04-Sept-19 07:59:35

If there is civil unrest it is likely to come from the far-right, hard-line Brexiteers. Those who voted leave on a ‘get rid of foreigners’ card. Recognisable by their shaven heads, Britain First T-shirts and xenophobia. Nigel Farrage’s Brexit Party will claim their votes.

Kandinsky Wed 04-Sept-19 08:02:10

This isn’t about stoping a no deal brexit, it’s about stopping brexit altogether - stop being so naive.
They’ll ask for another 6 month delay, then another 2 year delay, until everyone forgets about it. That’s their plan.
It’s beyond disgraceful.

gillybob Wed 04-Sept-19 08:02:27

I have no pension, no savings, no private health care and struggle to run a small business Anja . I will if I am lucky retire at 67.5 with a state pension and not a penny more. I voted remain as I saw that (and still do) as a way to protect jobs . Nothing short of a miracle or a lottery win would change my fortunes though. The point I am trying to make is that we have had 3 years of this rubbish and if we are going to leave we should bloomin we’ll get on with it . It is the sheer uncertainty of the situation that will kill business. The country voted leave . It is obvious that these rebels don’t want us to leave on any account so why don’t they just tell the bleeding truth ? Instead of bleating on about deals and no deals ?

Anja Wed 04-Sept-19 08:04:54

Disagrees. We are still going to leave but with or without a deal is the question. That is what our MPs are fighting for.

lemongrove Wed 04-Sept-19 08:06:32

No Anja it will come from ordinary people who have been pushed too far by an arrogant Parliament ( if it happens at all.)
However, it’s never over until it’s over, there is still the possibility of an election.
I don’t think anyone who voted to leave will ‘bear with’ the rebel Conservative MPs or any who voted for the motion last night.
I really feel for businesses gilly and GG13, the uncertainty
Is awful, you need to know, and MPs, by their actions are trying to push this uncertainty even further down the road.

Peonyrose Wed 04-Sept-19 08:08:17

It's the day democracy died here.
My grandfather and his brother gave their lives in the First World War for this country,my father was in the air firce through the second, he came back, his friends, a lot of them didn't. They fought for this country, to be free, for democracy, these people who opposed the referendum, stuck two fingers up at that, they have ridiculed our democratic rights because they didn't like to outcome. The suffragettes who fought for the right to vote, for their voice to be heard, they fight has been ridiculed too.
You can mock this, and I'm sure you will, there is no honour in getting your own way by whatever means.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 04-Sept-19 08:08:40

kandinsky I prefer to try to save our country from chaos and division.

I prefer to STOP NO DEAL.

Anja Wed 04-Sept-19 08:09:33

Boris Johnson

As mayor of London, Boris told voters on 6 March 2016 ahead of the referendum:

Everybody is suddenly wrangling about the terrors of the world outside... Actually, there are plenty of people who now think the cost of getting out would be virtually nil and the cost of staying in would be very high.

Handing ex-chancellor George Osborne The Spectator's Parliamentarian of the Year award on 3 November 2016, a few months after the result, he sloganeered:

Brexit means Brexit and we’re going to make a titanic success of it.

Boris doubled-down on his optimism when he told the Commons on 11 July 2017:

There is no plan for no deal, because we’re going to get a great deal.

Thank goodness no one took him seriously.
