Well that’s it. We’re not leaving the EU. The people in charge won’t allow it.

What the ‘people’ want counts for nothing.

I hope all the traitors & enemies of the people are happy. angry

lemon if we shouldn’t keep harking back to lies told in the referendum campaign don’t keep harking back to the will of the people and 17.4 m soundbites which are inaccurate now. I would have accepted a Norway style deal if that’s what May had said from the outset but no she was bullied by the hardliners. Remember BJ himself voted against the government twice, once for, so obviously game playing. Hopefully those who think he is their saviour may wake up to his continuous lies , e.g, “negotiations are going well” when there have been NO negotiations!!

Bridgeit Wed 04-Sept-19 08:49:19

We are not pleading to leave, we joined a club with rules & regulations, we can’t flounce off & expect to keep all the goodies.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 04-Sept-19 08:49:00

I rest my case.

Urmstongran Wed 04-Sept-19 08:45:55

I’m really fed up with this talk of a "deal". It's not a trade deal, it's a withdrawal agreement keeping us tied to EU rules. The PM should reject it and instead propose the continuation of zero tariffs on goods - a simple temporary Free Trade Agreement, to apply until a fuller long term FTA can be
ratified.

A draft (complying with GATT rules) has already been prepared by Dr Lorand Bartels of Cambridge University. (See "Lawyers for Britain" website)

Boris should make a pact with the Brexit Party party to join together for a GE with this aim.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 04-Sept-19 08:45:44

There is a cleansing going on iam they are getting rid of the moderates. They will be replaced by nationalists.

Barmeyoldbat Wed 04-Sept-19 08:43:47

I thought the debate yesterday was great and Boris just bumbled his way through his speech. JC on the other hand gave a great speech, clear and concise. MPs on all sides are angry with the lies from Boris, they just keep coming He just seems to have no plan but to leave whatever on the 31st and doesn't seem to care about the harm he will cause.

The referendum was advisory and based on lies and fear and
I voted to remain BUT I will accept we might leave but it has to be with a deal and that is worth waiting for, a deal that allows us to continue to trade with EU and lets us leave on good terms with the EU

I am going on holiday tomorrow, Holland, but when I come back I will be joining in any demonstrations and I have my banner ready.

Reece Mog's contempt towards his own party colleagues seems to have contributed to so many of them deciding to vote against Johnson.
I admire them for standing by their principles. It's what we pay them for , to do what they believe to be right for the country. I'm staggered that Johnson is prepared to lose 20 MP's including Ken Clarke , the father of the house!

Urmstongran Wed 04-Sept-19 08:37:01

Taking No Deal off the table restricts our negotiating hand. Depressing to think Boris will now have to try like Theresa the Appeaser for a deal. Any deal. We can’t walk away.

That’s not negotiating.

It’s pleading!!

mcem Wed 04-Sept-19 08:36:36

In the midst of all the serious arguments about democracy I really wish there was some acknowledgment of the fact that they are speaking for some of the people - as crystal pointed out!
BJ, do not stand there and tell me I don't want a GE!
You neither know not care about what I want!

I take some comfort that there are still politicians who are prepared to put their careers on the line.
Removing the whip smacks of desperation!

Petulant child taking his toys home and not allowing his friends to play because they won't do as he tells them!

BlueBelle Wed 04-Sept-19 08:36:23

Who EVER heard anyone complain about life within the EU before that bloody Cameron with his referendum that wasn’t even binding
As Will Self said not all leavers are racist but all racists are leavers

Ginny42 Wed 04-Sept-19 08:35:06

Nothing said more about the contempt in which the Tories hold for the people of this country than Rees-Mogg looking so smug as he lounged on the front bench. What a disgraceful image of the Leader of the House. What is going on in that man's head?

BlueBelle Wed 04-Sept-19 08:34:43

OMG , it all beggars belief

lemongrove Wed 04-Sept-19 08:34:22

That’s naive Anja.

lemongrove Wed 04-Sept-19 08:33:33

WWM2 I have no doubt that if the extreme left cabal were taken out of the LP (in Parliament,) that we would have an effective Opposition and one that voters felt able to actually vote for, but there you are, there are extremes now in both parties.

Anja Wed 04-Sept-19 08:32:54

You are effectively saying that it is OK to have as our PM a habitual liar? That might be acceptable in the US but not here.,

Anja Wed 04-Sept-19 08:31:12

I really cannot believe you wrote that lemongrass

Anja Wed 04-Sept-19 08:30:31

Exactly Grandad ...democracy in action.

Let us not forget that we do not have a written constitution so precedent is everything.

lemongrove Wed 04-Sept-19 08:30:19

Anja there were lies all round 3 years ago on both sides,
It’s pointless anyone harking back to it.

Anja Wed 04-Sept-19 08:27:23

Is there a statute of limitations on Boris’s lies then lemongrove ? How convenient for him!

Grandad1943 Wed 04-Sept-19 08:24:23

Looking at the title of this thread it would seem that many believe that leaving the European Union with no-deal was no longer a prospect. However, nothing could be further from the facts.

It is today that having gained control of the order paper that MPs have to pass a bill through Parliament that will prevent Britain leaving without a deal. MPs will also have to agree on extending Britains leave date until the 31st of January to allow further leave agreement negotiations to take place.

In my view, today is far more crucial in its outcome for the United Kindom than any day in the last eighty years.

NanaandGrampy Wed 04-Sept-19 08:23:59

I wonder how it can be called democracy when the vote was made and yet we're not going anywhere ? If it had been the other way round it would have all been done and dusted by now.

Best of 3 anyone?

Whitewavemark2 Wed 04-Sept-19 08:23:47

I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever, that if we could take the extreme right cabal out of the equation we would be out if the EU

lemongrove Wed 04-Sept-19 08:21:24

Anja it’s pointless to quote what anybody said 3 years ago.
We are where we are, solely because MPs cannot accept leaving the EU.
They could have accepted T May’s ‘deal’ (WA) it was reasonable after all, but no, it was voted down three times.
Now they want another what? Six months, a year, extension after extension until they hope we all forget about it?
Taking no deal off the table means no better deal is forthcoming ( and MPs know this.)
It’s bad enough for everyone, but especially bad for
businesses.
An election soon would clear the way if Johnson wins it.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 04-Sept-19 08:20:39

Don’t forget, if this bill goes through IT WILL NEVER BE NEEDED IF JOHNSON GETS A DEAL BY 17th OCTOBER.

This is nothing about stopping Brexit but it is about stopping No Deal.

Anja Wed 04-Sept-19 08:20:23

That’s exactly right WW2 and because of the slim majority held by May they were able to wield more power.
