Corbyn the cowardly chicken been asking for a General election for months now frightened when he's offered one. Hyprocrite.

It shows how powerless Johnson is. He’s having to appeal to the electorate to let him have an election??????

Sorry, not wrong.
And why was DC trying to achieve changes in the EU for policies that were damaging to UK and failed. His reasoning for the referendum was if he could not achieve the changes that the country demanded then he would put the decision of what to do next to the country in the firm of a referendum.
Wether you are tory or not you should acknowledge the truth.

Beammeupscottie Thu 05-Sept-19 11:10:22

I thought Cameron wanted a referendum to counter
Nigel Farage's ghastly influence.?

Whitewavemark2 Thu 05-Sept-19 11:12:32

joel what truth?

When he is surrounded by protectionist self serving loons what option does he have.
How many times have the Labour and Lib Dems called for an election crying ‘bring it on’ yet when its brought on they have run scared!

Do a little research. Its surprising how enlightening it can be.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 05-Sept-19 11:18:24

Alastair PEOPLE’S VOTE Campbell

You’ve got him exactly where he needs to be
@jeremycorbyn
- the time will come when the chord can be cut but not now. Let him stew. Let the public see more of him lying and blustering. Ignore the screaming abuse of the Brexit Lie Machine. Go long!

Whitewavemark2 Thu 05-Sept-19 11:21:53

joel so I assume you don’t know? Because if you did you would have posted it.

humptydumpty Thu 05-Sept-19 11:28:14

Joelsnan who trusts BJ not to crash out of the EU unless the election is after Oct 31? He's proved himself to be an untrustworthy liar, why stop now?

Nandalot Thu 05-Sept-19 11:32:22

Joelsnan would you please tell me whom you mean by the ‘self serving protectionist loons’ and also what you mean by ‘protectionist’ in this context. I this context, it would seem to me to be protecting the interests of this country, therefore not loons.

MaizieD Thu 05-Sept-19 11:33:50

Oh dear, Joelsnan. DC did get concessions from the EU but I'm willing to bet you don't even know what they were.
(Though you should do, I've linked to the Hansard record often enough)

He called the referendum because he was scared of losing votes to UKIP. That's the long and short of it.

Joelsnan Thu 05-Sept-19 12:19:40

Oh dear MaizieD
If he had got the required concessions (particularity the curbing of free movement), don't you think he would have been hailed a hero, not running scared from UKIP?
Btw, how much are you betting?

Joelsnan Thu 05-Sept-19 12:22:45

it would seem to me to be protecting the interests of this country, therefore not loons.

Some may see them that way, others do not. They see them as disrespecting a democratic vote and bringing the whole of the country into disrepute.

Joelsnan Thu 05-Sept-19 12:27:13

Humpty
What is under discussion is the Withdrawal agreement, not as many people believe the trade agreement which cannot even be discussed until we leave.
No other country who has a free trade agreement with the EU has been subjected to the turmoil of withdrawal terms. This is in part because a free trade agreement could not be denied because UK is already fully compliant. Other member states would follow.

As I mentioned, research is enlightening, why would I want to deny you the pleasure?

Fennel Thu 05-Sept-19 12:29:26

The only good thing to come out of this is that at least many politicians, from various sides, have done the decent thing. ie Decided that Parliamentary democracy is more important than personal gain.
And that includes resisting being bullied.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 05-Sept-19 12:31:09

joel you are still clueless

GagaJo Thu 05-Sept-19 12:31:19

Not scared. Strategic. Only got to listen to Radio 4 to work that one out.

crystaltipps Thu 05-Sept-19 12:32:40

It’s wouldn’t be stupid to agree to a GE on BJs terms. Let him squirm with his no majority government for as long as possible. A general election about Brexit might just as well be another referendum - that would be more honest. It also comes to something when abJs own brother says you can’t trust him with the interest of the country. As for childish Sun splashes, just shows how easily the population falls for twisted stories.

Nandalot Thu 05-Sept-19 12:41:32

Joelsnan, so what did you mean by the word’protectionist’?

Joelsnan Thu 05-Sept-19 12:41:43

joel you are still clueless

Oh, how often you resort to personal jibes when your inadequacies are exposed...nice try ?

Whitewavemark2 Thu 05-Sept-19 12:45:37

No sorry joel I absolutely do not understand your original post that started this conversation. So unless you are willing to explain what you meant I suppose we must consider it at an end.

I think that you will find that my personal jibes are very few and far between. I make a point of that.

They are protecting their cushy numbers. Admittedly there are a few with a bit of a social conscience, however most have come through the ‘old boys network’, eased in by cronies in their local parties or imbibed the political dogma at uni become a parliamentary researcher etc. There are few who have actually walked the walked so understand true representation.

Shoequeen53 Thu 05-Sept-19 12:55:31

So much for brotherly love. Jo Johnson has just resigned. Boris can’t even rely on his own family.

Here are a few articles found on a very quick search of the internet from pre referendum showing what DC was asking for from EU.
Yes, some concessions were agreed, however he could not achieve his main requirements and that his why he promised the country would decide.

The Wikipedia article below shows that referendums on this subject were previously promised and then reneged upon.
