The family firm.

Photos of Princess Charlotte's first day at school with her brother Prince George, show us how well their mother, Catherine, has fitted into The Firm.
Delightfully normal and without any pretentious, she and her husband simply get on with life, neither courting nor studiously avoiding the publicity that goes with the job.
She looks wonderful in the pictures taken by the DM and the family is a fitting continuation of our monarchy.

I think there is a long list of disowned relatives in the RF. The Windsors were discarded to Paris. Philip dumped his sisters and even his name.

I did not say anyone on here had made racist comments. But I do think one or two of you should read something other than the Daily Mail.
Complaining that Meghan behaves like 'a celebrity' when we've had so many decades of treating some of the royals (Diana, anybody?) as exactly that, is a bit much. The woman is an actress, FFS. Celebrity has always been her job. Also to say she's 'acting as if she's an independent woman.' simply for keeping up with her pre-marriage friends- well good for her. Whyever shouldn't she? She's not locked in a cage.
As for her cutting her father out of her life - who on here knows enough to criticise her for that? We don't know what goes on in anyone's family. The behaviour anyone has seen from him so far isn't exactly promising for good familial relations though, is it? Staying out of his daughter's life till she hooks a prince and then whining that she's abandoned him is the action of an attention-seeking hanger-on, not a father.

merlotgran Way too much like Wallis for comfort! I fear for the future.

Anniebach Fri 06-Sept-19 17:37:41

What rubbish trisha Philip didn’t dump his sisters. Inviting sisters married to Germans to his wedding in 1947 ?

His mother was nursed and died in Bucking Palace. He took
his maternal grandmother’s surname.

His only daughter has his mothers Christian name.

Lessismore Fri 06-Sept-19 18:37:20

How is Meghan like Wallis?

M0nica Fri 06-Sept-19 19:32:32

Joint family holidays in this family mean going to our house in France. Not really that much different, then they have their own separate holiday and so do we.

trisher Fri 06-Sept-19 20:08:02

His only daughter is called after a Queen Annie - Queen Anne-1702-1707
His sisters were invited to an odd occasion but then so are lots of people. (Wonder if they got to Balmoral???)

merlotgran Fri 06-Sept-19 20:22:52

Lessismore, An older, self assured, ambitious American divorcee married to a younger, self-centred, immature prince who panders to her every whim.

Yes, I think there are similarities.

maddyone Fri 06-Sept-19 20:28:34

Me too merlot.

Anniebach Fri 06-Sept-19 20:55:17

His only daughter is Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise

Pinkquartz.I wonder if Kate ever has, and chance no doubt a fine thing , days when she would just like to forget who and what she is and 'slob' around like the rest of us can'. still in our 'pyjams' feet up tv on knowing only your nearest and dearest will see you.For all that makes her life what you observe as a doddle would I want to exchange for mine.

sarahellenwhitney Fri 06-Sept-19 22:22:28

Very true and no we don't know what goes on in other peoples lives but without a doubt the media will step in with their version. How else do they manage to sell their 'daily's.?

Framilode Fri 06-Sept-19 22:33:33

Actually, if Kate wants to I think she could slob around nearly every day of the week. She only appears on an engagement every other week or so. She has staff to do everything for her so when she is not in public she has freedom of choice.

I am not criticising her. I think she is very good at her job but I certainly don't think she has a hard life nor do I feel sorry for her.

Ohmother Sat 07-Sept-19 09:25:52

I wish she had turned up in her pjs. Now that would have been my kinda gal! ?

Meghan Markle was not a celebrity; she was an actress in a television drama barely known outside America. She is now a member of the royal family, and she is not an unworldly nineteen year old ingenue.
No one expects her to give up her old friends, but to fly to America for one tennis match is one more example of conspicuous consumerism, not to mention the waste of energy her husband likes to pontificate about. Her present status is due purely to her marriage, not her personal achievements; these she needs to create for herself. Then she can lecture us about what we should be doing, or write it on a banana.

Anniebach Sat 07-Sept-19 10:52:28

Well said eazybee she married a minor royal , and has now chosen the role of celebrity not a working member of ‘the firm’ .

merlotgran Sat 07-Sept-19 12:07:20

Having used the excuse that little Archie is too young to travel to Balmoral even though it's closer than Ibiza or Nice, Meghan jumps on a scheduled airline to fly to New York to watch a tennis match.

She's obviously not bothered about leaving him at only four months old and I bet it would have been a private jet had there not been so much negative publicity in the last few weeks.

Like Maw said upthread. I always thought the visit to Balmoral if invited was non negotiable. It's only for a few days and she's done bugger all very little for months other than enjoy herself.

Yes I still think their lives are very easy and I bet Kate does have down days where she can switch off.

I think their time might be coming to a close...MM is definitely helping that to happen. Her behaviour doesn't fit at all.

pinkquartz Sat 07-Sept-19 12:27:30

I would not have left my baby at 4 months to go abroad for any reason.........MM does seem to be in it for the fame.
I also find her refusal to let her Dad see his grandson very cruel. I don't believe he was the absent father.
It was her mother that left her and Dad took care of her. Yet now her mother is in her good books...... we don't know what is the truth here at all.
I don't really care but am curious to see how this plays out.

trisher Sat 07-Sept-19 18:41:52

Wow can't women be bitchy! Poor old Meghan. When she married Harry she was worth approx £5 million. She was paid £37,000 for each episode of Suits. She has done other TV work and some films.
It seems to be bit much to criticise her for leaving a 4 month old and then comment that she hasn't done anything for months-apart from have a baby of course.
I can't stand any of the over privileged leeches but unlike Harry, William and Kate she actually worked for her money.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 07-Sept-19 19:09:57

trisher- well said.

Anniebach Sat 07-Sept-19 19:48:46

Not paid in the armed forces or Air Ambulance ?

focused1 Sat 07-Sept-19 20:02:14

Tabloids print pictures of all Royal events . Not a normal day at a normal school but just an acknowledgement of a childs first school day . I am not bothered about her lifestyle as I just saw it as a predictable photo . One glance and go on to rerad the 'real news '.

trisher Sat 07-Sept-19 20:07:11

Oh yes and of course the money you can earn in jobs like that funds a lifestyle like theirs. So they wouldn't need any from anyone else would they?

merlotgran Sat 07-Sept-19 20:21:55

trisher Most of us were very approving of Meghan when she and Harry married. We all acknowledged her earning power and ambition and thought she would be a welcome addition to the RF. It's how she has behaved since then that is attracting criticism.

So what if she earned her own money? Most of us had never heard of her as an actress so it doesn't cut any ice. If her acting career meant that much to her she wouldn't have so readily given it up.
