Not fit for public office, never mind PM. NOT the way to behave in front of international press. Of course, NOT reported in the UK.

humptydumpty Wed 11-Sept-19 14:30:28

Sorry, bwteen Ireland and Scotland - don't know where on earth that came from!!!

Cold Wed 11-Sept-19 14:03:12

Well the last time Boris decided to build a vanity project bridge it all worked out very well didn't it? confused confused confused £53.5 million spent - including £43 million of taxpayers money and not a single brick laid! Think how that money could have helped with housing, healthcare, schools and social care!

The 10 mile Öresund Bridge between Sweden and Denmark was a much easier project but took years to complete and cost £3 billion

Gonegirl Wed 11-Sept-19 13:05:42

No!!! Who said it did? confused

humptydumpty Wed 11-Sept-19 13:04:34

Does it really seem plausible, off the top of your head, that it's feasible to build a bridge to the moon?!

SirChenjin Wed 11-Sept-19 12:59:22

No, I wasn't expecting you to teach yourself how to build bridges, just read the article grin

SirChenjin Wed 11-Sept-19 12:58:41

Tax cuts and poor investment Labaik www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/jan/13/north-sea-oil-money-uk-norwegians-fund

Gonegirl Wed 11-Sept-19 12:55:49

No Sirchenjin I haven't educated myself on how to building effin' bridges. Sorry. grin

Labaik Wed 11-Sept-19 12:52:50

It's puzzled me right from when oil was first discovered in the North sea, where all the money went, given that we were an oil rich country [or Scotland is I guess].

SirChenjin Wed 11-Sept-19 12:51:48

Oh yawn Paddy.

Norway also has one of the highest levels of taxation and one of the highest levels of personal debt in Europe.

Lessismore Wed 11-Sept-19 12:51:43

No no no paddyann you are all deluded and confused. Things have never been better, there is no austerity, there are plenty of jobs. Some people like zero hours contracts, it suits their lifestyle.
Fee paying schools are for everybody and a bit of Latin is always useful.

paddyann Wed 11-Sept-19 12:46:12

then Westminster will have to find the money elsewhere to fund its borrowing .How many billions of oil money has been wasted by WM ? Norway has less oil in its waters than Scotland does and it has a massive oil fund while Scotland has foodbanks....couldn't mak eit up could you!!

SirChenjin Wed 11-Sept-19 12:18:39

Who knows - but further uncertainty, divisions, and unrest looks likely.

Labaik Wed 11-Sept-19 12:06:32

So, what happens when Scotland becomes independent, which looks pretty inevitable now?

SirChenjin Wed 11-Sept-19 10:03:13

#NotforwardthinkingjustanotherstupidideafromBoriswhoisclutchingatstrawsbecausehecantthinkofanothersolution

I take it you didn't educate yourself by reading what is actually involved in building, operating and keeping this bridge open then.

Gonegirl Wed 11-Sept-19 09:53:10

I don't know about a bridge to the moon, but in the first half of the last century how many would have thought we would ever put a man on the moon?

#forward thinking

SirChenjin Wed 11-Sept-19 09:51:31

Forward thinking? I take it you read the article that almcg2001 posted?

Gonegirl Wed 11-Sept-19 09:45:02

Still don't understand Dinaho's post.

Is it a roundabout way of saying that Boris is mentally challenged? (Or me perhaps?! grin)

Gonegirl Wed 11-Sept-19 09:41:33

forward thinking?

Fennel Wed 11-Sept-19 09:37:46

Gonegirl - you know what mental means? then you know latin.

Gonegirl Wed 11-Sept-19 09:35:24

Really?!

SirChenjin Wed 11-Sept-19 09:19:05

The main obstacle to it is unexploded WW2 bombs still lying on the sea bed

I don't think that's going to be the main obstacle Gonegirl grin

almcg2001 Wed 11-Sept-19 09:09:14

I certainly made me chuckle SirChenjin.

Here is another link to Irish Times
www.irishnews.com/news/northernirelandnews/2018/10/08/news/bridge-to-scotland-about-as-feasible-as-building-a-bridge-to-the-moon--1453026/

Gonegirl Wed 11-Sept-19 09:08:47

The bridge isn't crazy at all. The main obstacle to it is unexploded WW2 bombs still lying on the sea bed.

It's merely a thought for the future. No one is suggesting it could be done by 17th October. hmm

Gonegirl Wed 11-Sept-19 09:06:38

Ok! Anyone else want to show off their fantastic knowledge of latin?!

SirChenjin Wed 11-Sept-19 08:49:45

It would appear that this bridge story is true grin www.scotsman.com/news/politics/boris-johnson-s-government-considering-scotland-to-northern-ireland-bridge-1-5001804

As everyone knows, the roads up through the Mull of Kintyre are absolutely suited to HGVs and can cope perfectly with the increased traffic and so on. I very much look forward to reading the Scottish Government's response to this one.

The man is utterly bonkers - mad as a box of frogs.
