Supreme court appeal today over proroguing of Parliament

Whitehaven we have just been told it is for Parliament to decide .

Twice has suggested Cummings should resign. Now I can certainly agree with that.

Today's judgement is the most important ruling for the future of our country.

Only yesterday Boris Johnson refused to rule out another prerogation. I thought the first act when parliament returns would be a law to prevent him doing this again. However, I have just heard Dominic Grieve say that the Supreme Court ruling means that is not needed as, in view of today's judgement, any such attempt would automatically be ruled unlawful.

Our democracy is restored by this fantastic judgement.

What next? I would like to see a VONC in Johnson, a temporary government of national unity to sign the letter to the EU outlawing a no-deal brexit and asking for an extension, preferably a long enough extension for a People's Vote, followed by a general election.

Completely agree with both varian and mcem! We can only hope this has the desired effect on BJ but I have a horrible feeling he will bluster his way through it, and even find some pretext to prorogue again, anything to avoid parliamentary scrutiny - I just hope the queen would not agree again...

11 - nil. I can scarcely believe the unanimous decision. We should take the strength of the words of Lady Hale as proof that democracy may be bruised, but it is far from dead.

She said 'Parliament is not prorogued.' It gives me great hope for the future.

Thanks varian for explaining how BJ can't prorogue again (after threatening to). I was a tad confused as to how he could do that if it was ruled illegal in the first place.

Surely the Queen would not be coerced again. It seems that the decision now set in law would make any further attempt by BJ and Cummings unlawful before it even got to the Palace gates.

If you voted for Brexit because you believed that 'our' judges and 'our' parliament had somehow surrendered power to 'Brussels', you deserve a full explanation of today's events from the people who misled you. You won't get one because they hold you in complete contempt.
