More bad news for the North East

News has been leaked this morning that the multi million £ ( and much overdue) contract to build 54 new trains for the Tyne and Wear Metro system will not be awarded to Hitachi’s plant in Country Durham but will go to a foreign company instead . Hitachi directly employ 700 people in County Durham with many more employed by tiered suppliers . They were counting on this order as they have no work beyond Spring 2020.

Another massive blow for the North East .

It’s sad and ironic that parts of England who are predominantly pro-Brexit are the very areas who will suffer most when this goes ahead.

If we finish up with a no deal Brexit, the choice of an EU supplier could prove to be prohibitively expensive and lead to the cancellation of the order.
