How dare brexiteers jeopardise my daughter's life!!

My daughter has serious chronic health problems.
After an ileostomy, she depends on drugs to keep her digestive system working.
She has serious kidney problems with resulting UTI's and so needs specific antibiotics. Her GP today, while prescribing for her latest UTI has given her several weeks worth of antibiotics as a precaution. She'll inevitably need them over the next few months so now has a reserve supply.
Meantime, her father (my ex husband but a good friend) is equally concerned about his diabetes med's.
One brexiteer declared in a vox pop interview last week that he is prepared to do without his insulin if it means brexit goes ahead!
Well tell that to my daughter's two children (9 and 10)!!
How can anyone in their right mind accept/condone the fact that it's becoming ever clearer that normal folks like my family may suffer badly because of their short-sighted and uncaring attitudes - and that's before we get into the economics, the dishonesty and the self-serving politics of this chaos!

(sorry three decades...)

Urmstongran Tue 24-Sept-19 12:19:08

- oops GrandmaJan
Sorry.

Urmstongran Tue 24-Sept-19 12:18:29

Thank you again GrannyJan

This second post must surely reassure many who are concerned.
?

Sadly Maggie's 'me me me' ethos still seems to govern some posters 2 decades on..

Following on from my post yesterday. I’ve just finished seeing patients in my Nurse Practitioner Clinic and 4 patients were advised by their pharmacist to see us about a shortage of one or more of their meds. I easily changed to ones that were available (the same drug, different name) some of which are manufactured in the UK. UK and USA manufacturers are having supply problems but they aren’t all long term. Anyone concerned must see their GP or Nurse to sort it out. I’m concerned (as are my other colleagues who I discussed this thread with today) that doctors are making patients more anxious. There are drug manufacturers all over the world not just the EU.

What is becoming clear is that we are no longer a tolerant and compassionate country. Some comments on this thread are truly frightening; also the ignorance shown.

Mcem, I do understand how worried you are about your daughter. It is no consolation to you that some ladies on GN apparently know that your worries are totally unfounded. After all, they won, we lost and we should just get over it.

I see nothing wrong in expecting and preparing for the worst while hoping for the best.

Sadly, you can't help but be upset by reading the complete selfishness and sense of entitlement shown by some. It sounds dysfunctional to me but it's also not the first time I have come across it. I have seen it in the wives of wealthy husbands. A taste of how others live helps some but generally they stay entitled. They are often far more to the right than their hardworking husbands.

Perhaps some of the new far-right groups were created to appeal to small-minded entitlement. Sad though.

No wonder hooliganism in football is still alive with that sort of mentality.

EllanVannin Tue 24-Sept-19 10:15:27

What a stupid and childish rant " we won and you lost ". Typical though of todays mindset !

grapefruitpip Tue 24-Sept-19 10:11:18

Nobody won anything.

Elegran Tue 24-Sept-19 10:02:28

When the dust has settled will be the time to see who has won and who has lost. I suspect that the main winners will be those who gambled with sterling on the stock exchange and made millions - the Rees Moggs and Boris Johnsons who had the money to speculate and were aware of the coming legislation on the money they had stashed away in tax havens.

Gaynes123 Tue 24-Sept-19 09:57:13

We won you lost get over it

Elegran Tue 24-Sept-19 09:56:58

And I pointed out in reply that air freight is also subject to customs control. No need to insult me.

Goodbyetoallthat Tue 24-Sept-19 09:54:07

Leavers may well "carry the day" but surely that begs the question of what they are seeking to achieve?
My fear is that this will lead to the further erosion of the NHS as those that can afford to will go privately & pay for treatment & those that cannot will be left to the mercies of any "rationing" should shortages arise.
I doubt the older generation will fare well in all this!

GabriellaG54 Tue 24-Sept-19 09:49:57

I pointed out that legally purchased medicines could be airfreighted here from outside the EU, by the UK government, should it come to that. Nothing to do with individuals buying medical supplies and trying to get them past customs.
Try reading the text not making it up.

EllanVannin Tue 24-Sept-19 09:48:22

If anyone's going to delay anything it'll be the big, greedy pharma companies. They'll do their damnedest to hold back as they're famed for holding people to ransom when a new drug comes on the market which they claim is unobtainable on account of the cost.
This country is driven by greed, Thomas Cook was an example of that.

Elegran Tue 24-Sept-19 09:47:17

Mind and don't drop that ladder as you are pulling it up.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 24-Sept-19 09:46:57

Blimey gabriella you inhabit a different planet to most humans.

What philosophy do you adhere to?

I could have an educated guess.

GabriellaG54 Tue 24-Sept-19 09:44:44

I'm here to look after me and mine not the whole population who have responsibility for themselves.
People on meds are not the only consideration. I matter just as much regardless of what anyone thinks.

Elegran Tue 24-Sept-19 09:43:48

Oh, but bringing in banned substances is SO much more profitable.

Elegran Tue 24-Sept-19 09:42:39

Blaming? Who the hair-oil am I blaming ? It is people who assume that it is the EU spitefully stopping essential drugs getting to us who are blaming. We (that is to say less than a third of us) wanted this, and now we are likely to get it.

Be careful what you wish for. It may not come just as you imagined it.

GabriellaG54 Tue 24-Sept-19 09:40:11

Medicines not banned substances when they are legally bought and sold. Don't confirm your ignorance.

GabriellaG54 Tue 24-Sept-19 09:38:43

Anyway...he who laughs last laughs longest and the moaners on here won't be laughing.
Leavers will carry the day.

Elegran Tue 24-Sept-19 09:38:42

Better than assuming that vulnerable people and their families should just shut up and suffer.

Elegran Tue 24-Sept-19 09:37:19

And do the airlines do no checks at customs? Must remember that when I want to bring in kilos of banned substances.
