How dare brexiteers jeopardise my daughter's life!!

My daughter has serious chronic health problems.
After an ileostomy, she depends on drugs to keep her digestive system working.
She has serious kidney problems with resulting UTI's and so needs specific antibiotics. Her GP today, while prescribing for her latest UTI has given her several weeks worth of antibiotics as a precaution. She'll inevitably need them over the next few months so now has a reserve supply.
Meantime, her father (my ex husband but a good friend) is equally concerned about his diabetes med's.
One brexiteer declared in a vox pop interview last week that he is prepared to do without his insulin if it means brexit goes ahead!
Well tell that to my daughter's two children (9 and 10)!!
How can anyone in their right mind accept/condone the fact that it's becoming ever clearer that normal folks like my family may suffer badly because of their short-sighted and uncaring attitudes - and that's before we get into the economics, the dishonesty and the self-serving politics of this chaos!

Goodbyetoallthat
However what happens to those not deemed to be a priority, will they just be left to fend for themselves

It will be the same as it ever was. Have there not always been waiting lists prioritised upon need?

Joelsnan Thu 26-Sept-19 18:38:17

GrandmaJan
Thank you for your informative and reassuring posts.

Pantglas2 Thu 26-Sept-19 18:47:10

Yes she’s very reassuring which must be lovely for her worried patients. The last thing you need when you have health problems is professionals spreading doom and gloom instead of problem solving.

humptydumpty Thu 26-Sept-19 19:39:30

Except Pantglas2 they would have been better not to be creating the problem in the first place...

Pantglas2 Thu 26-Sept-19 19:48:43

Sorry humptydumpty - how did GrandmaJan create ‘the problem’? I just thought how brave of her to come on this thread and calmly share her work experience with us.

Urmstongran Thu 26-Sept-19 20:14:21

I think humpty meant ‘the government’ Pantsglas2

Joelsnan Thu 26-Sept-19 20:16:58

humpty
The problem is only in the heads of those who naively believe the scaremongering despite what numerous experts say.
Anxiety addiction is becoming rife

Numerous experts have rightly advised us that any kind of brexit would damage our economy, our security, our social cohesion and our standing in the world.

Information from the General Medical Council (GMC) today to all NHS staff who prescribe. They strongly suggest all repeat prescriptions and all new prescriptions are checked that the drugs aren’t on the shortage list. In some areas this isn’t happening and patients are having to return to the surgery, sometimes having to make an appointment to get the prescription changed. This is obviously taking up valuable appointments. As far as I’m aware where GP practices have a Pharmacist this is something they are looking into. I’ve only mentioned this because it has been said the receptionists in one surgery deal with repeat prescriptions however it is the prescribing doctors/nurses responsibility

A few more experts on yesterday's news programmes exprssing concern (which is not the same as doom merchants spreading panic!)
While they express those concerns I'll still be worried.
Forgive me if I have more faith in them than I do in the Pollyanna views!

Pantglas2 Sat 28-Sept-19 08:33:43

How rude to dismiss GrandmaJan’s professionally based opinion as a Pollyanna view!

Urmstongran Sat 28-Sept-19 08:35:11

And numerous experts hold the opposing position varian as you well know.

The proof of the pudding will be in the eating I suppose.

Let’s hope we don’t choke.

mcem Sat 28-Sept-19 18:37:28

How rude to dismiss the advice of the many experts with serious concerns as useless fear mongering.
It was professional advice from my daughter's gp and specialist that prompted me to start the thread in the first place.

Pantglas2 Sat 28-Sept-19 20:08:38

The rudeness wasn’t in preferring one professional opinion over another mcem - it was dismissing it as a Pollyanna view.

blondenana Sat 28-Sept-19 21:36:32

Whitewave i am shocked that you are blaming Gabriella or anyone else who voted leave for voting knowing people would die
I voted leave, and crtainly never expected what is happening to happen.
I think Brexit is blamed for everything now, and some manufacturers are having problem , but nothing to do with Brexit
I have family who will be affected by certain shortages, mainly Diabetes meds, and HRT ,
I hope it all gets sorted soon, and but i am not blaming Brexitanyone who decided to vote leave or if it was remain who knows what problems there might have been,
I think remainers are just bitter that they lost
Alot of lies were told and promises made, but it's happening now and we can only hope that it IS for the best in the end, but no one expected this chaos
I hope mcem, that your daughter will get all the meds she needs of course

mcem Sat 28-Sept-19 21:43:01

Would you still be criticising if I'd used the term 'over optimistic'?

grapefruitpip Sat 28-Sept-19 21:52:24

Let’s hope we don’t choke.....a rather unfortunate choice of words.

mcem Sat 28-Sept-19 21:59:58

Thank you for your good wishes but I do think you reinforce the view that many voted in ignorance of possible outcomes while some of us were aware of some of the potential problems, voted accordingly and are very unhappy to find ourselves in this position.

paddyann Sat 28-Sept-19 22:05:00

lets just hope someone sees sense and cancels the whole stupid idea ..or that we get Independence pretty damn quick and get out of the whole toxic mess .

Pantglas2 Sun 29-Sept-19 08:45:26

I’m sure you had everyone’s sympathy and understanding mcem with your original post and most of your follow ups - remainers, neutrals and leavers.

However GrandmaJan has posted her professional view based on her current experiences and doesn’t deserve disrespect from anyone. Especially as she was calm and measured in her posts and certainly not rude to people who disagreed with her.

mcem Sun 29-Sept-19 09:54:57

I reiterate that my opinion stemmed from the professional opinions of experts who are familiar with our specific situation.

Pantglas2 Sun 29-Sept-19 10:16:20

And I reiterate your absolute right to prefer any professional opinion based on your family’s circumstances - but never to so rudely dismiss another professional by calling her Pollyanna.

Summerlove Sun 29-Sept-19 13:50:08

Even when she is being possibly over optimistic?

Are you the tone police now? Mcem has a very real fear based on her professionals.
Someone else claiming to be a professional with no knowledge of that specific situation telling her it will all be fine can be seen as extremely minimizing to her fear. Instead of telling her there is possibly nothing to fear, maybe just sympathise with her?

mcem Sun 29-Sept-19 13:50:29

Well do let's make semantics the big issue.
I wonder why you don't accept that expression as a synonym for over-optimistic.

Pantglas2 Sun 29-Sept-19 14:04:06

Possibly acceptable for anyone to use it against a layman but not a professional and given current protests about choice of derogatory words language etc most unwise - in my opinion, of course, mcem.

I stated earlier Summerlove that mcem has everyone’s sympathy and understanding on this and that GrandmaJan had a right to give her professional experience without being insulted. Surely you don’t disagree?
