Tory Party conference in Manchester

Seems MPs have rejected an attempt by the government to adjourn parliament to allow Tory politicians to attend the Conservative party conference in Manchester.

The event, due to start on Sunday and continue until Wednesday, comes the weekend after Labour held its party conference in Brighton and two weeks after the Liberal Democrats held theirs in Bournemouth.

Thoughts on this?

Whitewashmark2 Yes you can imagine the sort. Reminds me of a certain Gordon Brown in his insulting of Gillian Duffy, a longstanding Labour supporter.

lemon, why? why do you feel the need to poke at things?

I don't know too much about Grany. I think we may have exchanged the odd PM. She seems a nice, genuine, caring person. I'm not sure following JC makes somebody a Marxist.

I do know the spiteful comments on this site are a disgrace.

Whitewave Coukd you tell us all where to buy a tv or radio, that way we would not need yo rely on your biased and bigoted reportage.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 01-Oct-19 17:24:47

You can imagine the sort can’t you.

He got annoyed because the security staff insisted that he showed them his pass.

Yet another entitled over privileged idiot lacking manners.

Patel’s speech was made to a half empty hall where most of the audience was asleep.

She began “Today in Manchester the Tory party takes its rightful place as the party of law and order”

Two hours before in the conference lobby Tory MP Clifton-Brown was involved in fisticuffs and was thrown out by the police.

?? You couldn’t make it up could you?

Early pantomime

Bullies? How ridiculous, and grany is a grown woman not a child.
She must expect some mild ribbing when posting in that manner.
grany posts regularly on the political threads btw and is a supporter of Jeremy Corbyn ( more new Marxist school than old school Labour, surely.)

Whitewavemark2 Tue 01-Oct-19 16:48:08

Grany. Ignore the bullies.

Keep posting

Is this sufficiently austere.....death is pretty austere.

grapefruitpip Tue 01-Oct-19 16:38:54

Why do people have to be so horrible? Grany rarely posts....I gather her politics are " old school Labour".

Honestly some people are like vultures circling.

Urmstongran Tue 01-Oct-19 16:24:17

I agree GillT57

Apropos of nothing ....
It’s my father’s 87th birthday today. When we called to see him he reminded us he shares the day with a certain Theresa May!

Poor old Grany the source of your link is a certain Ramesh Patel with no qualigications more than you or I. It is a document that gains no respect from anyone who is compos mentis. It is a distortion of the highest proportions. The nstional debt increased dramatically from 2008 to 2012 after the financial collapse. Since then it hss been reduced gradually and interest payments have also been avoided to some degree. You may renember the enirmous quantitive easing program which overnight added several hundred billion. At the same time the budget deficit has been allowed to increase a little...this lessen the effects of what some call austerity. If you want to see real austerity, visit Greece or S. Italy.......the result of profligate spending to a much higher degree. We dont really know the meaning of austerity.

CraftyGranny ?

Firecracker123 Tue 01-Oct-19 12:49:02

Could we have a thumbs down? one while we are at it, or perhaps a yawn would be more appropriate.

CraftyGranny Tue 01-Oct-19 12:46:51

Thank you Firecracker123

GillT57 Tue 01-Oct-19 12:44:48

Could we have a head shaking emoticon?

Firecracker123 Tue 01-Oct-19 12:36:34

I agree with you CraftyGranny ?

CraftyGranny Tue 01-Oct-19 12:32:17

I would still vote Tory if there is an election. The bullying and underhand tactics of other parties against Boris are disgusting. He hasn't been given a chance to sort out the mess he inherited or show his worth. He surely isn't going to reveal his plans for Brexit because all the traiters in our Parliment will be running to the EU to tell tales.... And why should they not have their Conference as the other parties did. There, have a go at me now, I won't be guilt tripped!

GillT57 Tue 01-Oct-19 12:21:31

Totally unacceptable Urm, appalling behaviour. None of the major parties come out particularly well during the conference season, maybe if this behaviour was more widely broadcast some of us would consider our votes more carefully.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 01-Oct-19 12:12:24

David Lammy MP has had to delete his tweet and apologise.......it showed Boris Johnson being ushered into conference by police officers whilst being abused and having objects thrown at him........unfortunately it was conference 4 years ago not this year!

Urmstongran Tue 01-Oct-19 11:35:41

Reported in the Daily Mirror today:

‘Steps are being taken to stop Lib Dem activists singing “Tony Blair Can F* Off And Die” at the Party’s annual conference singalong, Jo Swinson said today.’

Urmstongran Tue 01-Oct-19 11:30:31

And the Lib Dem’s Gill57 who robustly sing ‘F**k Tony Blair and let him die’ at the end of their party conferences! Jo Swinson said yesterday it’s not going to be allowed going forward ....

GillT57 Tue 01-Oct-19 11:08:11

Keep up the tweets WWMk2, I for one am happy to read them and find them neat and straight to the point, which is, of course, the point of Twitter! As to the conference, the side shows are often the most interesting for there the most loony extreme section of the parties spout forth. This happens in all party conferences, not just the Tory one of course, but the essential difference is that this lunacy is being adopted as policy, and as for Francois' vulgarity, well, when his esteemed leader uses the expression 'Fuck business' what else can be expected.

Impartialandeducated Tue 01-Oct-19 10:56:33

Whitewave Strange how an ex-party can command more support than any other. Course, that is only the people's unacceptable opinion,, probably in the main the "lower orders" disparagingly dismissed in previous posts.
