Tory Party conference in Manchester

Seems MPs have rejected an attempt by the government to adjourn parliament to allow Tory politicians to attend the Conservative party conference in Manchester.

The event, due to start on Sunday and continue until Wednesday, comes the weekend after Labour held its party conference in Brighton and two weeks after the Liberal Democrats held theirs in Bournemouth.

Thoughts on this?

Thousands of protesters have taken to the streets to tell the Tories they're not welcome in Manchester.

While 17-year-old Belle Lewis from Shrewsbury said: "We want to tell the Tories that they're not welcome, that they're propping up this failing economic system, that they're not acting on the climate crisis and, as Greta Thunberg said, the 'fairy tales of eternal economic growth'.

Whitewave Do you really think that your contributions are at all valid. On the street you would be open to a private prosecution for slander, libel if you set it on paper. It seems that venting anger and bile, let along levelling unsubstantiated allegation on this site, has some sort of judicial immunity. Also, what's the obsession with Esther Mcvey all of a sudden?

Unfortunately we are in a situation whereby there is not one MP in the H of Cs who is there for anything other than themselves.

Jabberwok Tue 01-Oct-19 07:06:48

Bottom line is, why in Gods name did the H of C substantially sign up for article 50 in the first place, and then go into a G E on the back of delivering Brexit when the majority of these people had no intention of honouring any of it, in fact quite the reverse!? Surely this must be the biggest deceit of all?!

I bet the Tories ditch the last vestiges of their integrity and give Ms Arcuri's benefactor a standing ovation on Wednesday, especially those set to benefit financially from the Brexageddon he is hell-bent on unleashing.

Talk about damned with faint praise; Javid's speech raised a very feeble splatter of applause and Nicki Morgan is obviously having a great moral struggle with working for the slime ball Johnson about the latest groping and/or conflict of interest allegations. For heavens sake woman, gather your dignity and quit.

David Gauke absolutely shredded government Brexit policy at a meeting in Manchester.

He went on to say that if the Tories carry on the way they are going with division and confrontation they will no longer be the party of Churchill but the party of Trump.

Joelsnan Quote [If the opposition would agree to an election they could potentially boot him out legally in weeks.] End Quote.

Joelsnan, the opposition parties in the House of Commons know that it is part of Johnson's strategy to attempt provocation of that opposition so as to get them to agree to a General Election being called.

However, those parties realise that during the period that the election campaign was being fought Johnson would allow Britain to crash out of the European Union with no deal.

In short, nobody is going to trust Johnson with any election until after the 31st of October and an extension of artical fifty has been applied for and agreed.

Me too lemongrove !!

Labaik Mon 30-Sept-19 21:01:34

I'm as amazed by women defending Johnson as I am for women voting for Trump....

lemongrove Mon 30-Sept-19 21:00:21

You are quite wrong WWM2 this constant tweeting is far more irritating than anything you could ever produce.
I did at least, read your own posts even if I disagreed with them.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 30-Sept-19 20:57:51

Don’t be disingenuous lemon et al

You are irritated at anything I post. I shall worry only when you aren't irritated.

lemongrove Mon 30-Sept-19 20:50:34

The alleged thigh groping incident was released at this time to try and cause maximum damage, it’s so obvious, that in the end I doubt it will bother anyone as far as votes are concerned.

Urmstongran Mon 30-Sept-19 20:50:26

I think WWmk2 is making a point here .....
?

lemongrove Mon 30-Sept-19 20:48:11

It must take you just as long as formulating a few thoughts yourself in any case.

lemongrove Mon 30-Sept-19 20:47:09

Oh for goodness sake WWM2 stop Tweeting and use your own words, constantly re-tweeting is very boring.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 30-Sept-19 20:41:43

Ask those American grans how long it has gone in for in USA.

Then you’ll realise this is nothing.

Joelsnan Mon 30-Sept-19 20:39:11

I really am not a BJ fan but...this blooming farcical mud slinging and alleged dirt digging is past ridiculous.
If the opposition would agree to an election they could potentially boot him out legally in weeks.

My comment was direct and an observation MaizieD - not impolite.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 30-Sept-19 20:26:26

Not the sort of news headlines you would expect of the UK PM

alan rusbridger

Top three BBC news items tonight. 1)I will ignore Parliament. 2) I did not squeeze a woman’s thigh. 3) I have no interest to declare in claims of improper payments to a “close friend.” #t

MaizieD Mon 30-Sept-19 20:20:24

The veneer of politeness is slipping, Ug hmm

Urmstongran Mon 30-Sept-19 20:16:36

Most illuminating WWmk2 - a really worthwhile tweet to share. Said no one.

This

Emma Kennedy

Can we all just agree that Esther McVey has the intellectual capacity of pond water and leave it at that.

Grandad1943 Mon 30-Sept-19 20:07:39

It would seem that Tory supporters on this forum do not wish to discuss the policies and points raised at the Conservative Party conference in this thread which has been set up explicitly for that purpose.

Instead, they would rather divert from the "embarrassment" of that shambles of a conference and resort to making personal attacks on other forum members who wish to point out the shortcomings what is being presented in Manchester.

Some, of course, find there is no defence of those Tory Party so-called policies being presented or of the behaviour of their leader and Prime Minister. In that, they attempt to divert by attacking what was discussed at the Labour Party conference which ended five days ago. ?

Impartialandeducated Mon 30-Sept-19 20:06:29

Urmstongran agree 100%
