Tory Party conference in Manchester

Seems MPs have rejected an attempt by the government to adjourn parliament to allow Tory politicians to attend the Conservative party conference in Manchester.

The event, due to start on Sunday and continue until Wednesday, comes the weekend after Labour held its party conference in Brighton and two weeks after the Liberal Democrats held theirs in Bournemouth.

Thoughts on this?

So much sense written by you Day 6
You have summed up the current situation with Labour perfectly.

To frustrate 'no deal' Brexit...

I agree with Jennifer. The Remainer HOC voted down - three times - the deal the EU offered us.

It was unacceptable.

What part of the EU's "This is it, take it or leave it, no more negotiating!"don't those MPs get?

The truth remains, and the public can see right through it - that our Remainer HOC wants to stop us leaving, and yet more delays plays right into their hands.

What is becoming unacceptable is the House of Commons.

There is nothing to stop us leaving the EU and THEN negotiating deals which they and the UK can both benefit from.

How can that be so hard? It won't be any harder than going over the old deal (which was unacceptable and voted down, despite three amendments.)

And we'd be billions of pounds better off too.

The public is now aware of the spiteful and selfish games being played by those in the HOC opposing a) Boris Johnson b) Brexit and c) democracy.

But what you wrote about Labour's immigration policy was much exaggerated, more of a kneejerk response to any Labour policy. You don't have to make things up to justify voting for the Tories.

He is betraying his roots

We couldn't have been poorer growing up. Dad was a factory worker and in a Union. I was involved with the Unions all my working life.

However, I can not vote Labour. The Labour Party of today has different ideals, is run by hard-left Momentum, is anti-Semitic, anti-establishment, and the leader supports terrorist organisations, wants to abolish monarchy and does not support our armed services. It will squeeze the taxpayer dry and ensure the wealthy move away, taking their money and businesses with them. Investment will be lost.

We found out recently that Labour immigration policy will be open door, no borders, no caps and in favour of free movement. Most countries in the world have strict immigration policies and want to know who is entering and what they will contribute to the place in which they want to live. Makes sense.

I have worked hard, as did my old Dad, but he and many other staunch Labour voters would NOT be denying their working class roots if they had nothing to do with the Labour Party of today.

We grow and move on, and see things differently. The Labour Party has evolved (could you get more of a contrast than Blair and Corbyn?) and it's not to everyone's liking, no matter what their background.

The Conservative Party serves the working classes and people who want to get on much better these days.

No actually it’s to stop Brexit full stop.

That is the main objective but it is dressed up to Look as if it is just the ‘no deal ‘ part they are objecting to.

SNP conference is a;ways October....no free days for our MP's...and its a very well attented conference .always sold out

To frustrate 'no deal' Brexit...

JenniferEccles Mon 30-Sept-19 13:37:16

This is completely crazy because traditionally MPs would break up in the summer and not reconvene until after the party conference season in October.

We all know the real reason of course is to have a few more days to frustrate Brexit.

humptydumpty Mon 30-Sept-19 13:23:06

I'm confused by Sajid Javid this morning - why is he openly talking about a response to a no-deal Brexit, when this is supposed not to be allowed by the Benn law, and BJ maintains that he is going to abide by 'the law' (not that I believe him, hence 'openly').

grapefruitpip Mon 30-Sept-19 13:04:18

annsixty, don't be sorry and let it all hang out kid.

Urmstongran Mon 30-Sept-19 12:58:44

By her facial expressions of distaste when interviewing Leavers Framilode and the way both she and Adam Boulton let Remainers talk but constantly cut across the bows of Leavers being interviewed!

Beth interviewing Sajid Javid this morning was classic.

Now I’ve pointed out my observations, you just watch for yourself over the next few days - see what you think?
?

MawB Mon 30-Sept-19 12:08:15

Impartialandeducated - so you maintain hmm
I have issues with at least one part of that username.

Framilode Mon 30-Sept-19 12:00:04

How do you know Beth Rigby is a remainer, Urmstongran? If she is that will surely balance out Laura Kuennsberg. She simpers everytime she interviews Johnson.

Urmstongran Mon 30-Sept-19 10:18:33

Adam Boulton interviewing Dominic Grieve on Sky News right now. Dominic Grieve wants a second referendum.

These MP’s won’t vote for a deal!

Beth Rigby was talking to Adam Boulton earlier. She is a Remainer too and although she usually seems quite sanguine about it all it’s obvious they are all getting twitchy now that it’s 1st October tomorrow!

Oldwoman70 Mon 30-Sept-19 10:11:57

I don't understand why party conferences (of all parties) are not held during the summer parliamentary recess. They are usually back for a week and then off for their conferences. Doesn't make sense to me.

annsixty Mon 30-Sept-19 09:53:20

So sorry , I will keep my opinions and jealousy to myself.

lemongrove Mon 30-Sept-19 09:42:25

Now there’s a rarity!

Urmstongran Mon 30-Sept-19 09:40:39

At least the sun is shining this morning in Manchester!
?

lemongrove Mon 30-Sept-19 09:37:45

Ah, James Hunt ( I used to fancy him) ?

lemongrove Mon 30-Sept-19 09:36:04

Have never understood the betraying their roots thing, it sounds so old fashioned.

lemongrove Mon 30-Sept-19 09:34:14

The conference has gone ahead annesixty so why wouldn’t your ‘friend’ be able to go?

Impartialandeducated Mon 30-Sept-19 08:17:36

Annsixty Would you prefer that your friend were claiming housing benefit, tax credits, jobseekers allowance, for which the taxpayer would have to stump up yet more. He is likely paying a large tax bill and maybe providing employment for others. You join the huge ranks of people on these pages whose motivation is led by jealousy rather than finding a way forward. Reminds me of the old prayer... Dear God, if you can't make me thin, please make all my friends fat. By the way Londongranny, James Hunt would have sorted things a lot quicker!

Barmeyoldbat Sun 29-Sept-19 22:19:19

Well said then MawB.

MaizieD Sun 29-Sept-19 22:00:34

Oh dear.

The defences can't keep out the hackers

@theousherwood

New: our engineers tell me they’ve been told that Conservative Manchester conference keeps getting hit by a cyber attack every hour. That’s why the internet keeps going down

MawB Sun 29-Sept-19 21:48:31

I was that “someone” Barmeyoldbat - many a true word is spoken in jest!
