Boris will only get his deal through if enough MPs believe in their hearts that a No Deal Brexit is what will happen if the new deal fails in Parliament.

MPs have forced him to ask for extension, but can they pass a bill that requires Johnson to go back to the negotiating table?

As Boris has told the EU that this is the very last deal, why would the EU grant that extension?

Parliament has achieved what needed to be done. It has stopped Boris forcing us out of the EU without a deal. If we leave without a deal now, it'll be because MPs have chosen, either consciously or by inaction, to take us out without a deal.

As it is, the EU just shot the DUP fox with the new confirmatory arrangements in Stormont. No more DUP veto, or for that matter, SF veto. Elegant solution, taking the extremists out of the equation.

In fact, Northern Ireland benefits most (as far as the UK is concerned). The DUP is the "collateral damage".

Just watching Politics Live and it appears there was a reckoning at a cabinet meeting earlier in the week UG and with the DUP on board they expected a majority of 1! I am not sure where you are getting your calculation from but without the DUP and, listening to IDS, some of the extreme Brexiters I can't see how they can make it.

No Chestnut you are wrong. Even to word "vilify" could be seen as you "ranting". Your unconscious bias is showing and you are remembering what suits you. "Vilify" is over the top when you read what I said. Much of what the leave pursuers have said, using words like "traitor" when talking about servants of the state doing their job along with the use of the word surrender, the suggestion that we are a one-party state which makes those who disagree with this proposition unpatriotic and undemocratic - all this can be considered at the very least ranting and at the very worst fuelling hate and hate crime.

Greta as regards EU citizen’s right our government has been more than fair and welcoming. Anyone here already is welcome to stay on the same terms and conditions.

On the other hand the 27 EU states are reviewing U.K. individuals post Brexit rights country by country. What THEY decide is not down to us so we can’t beat ourselves up about it.

I stand by my use of the word 'rant' with respect to some of the remainer posts (amongst the hundreds in the politics forum). I have found many of them aggressive and unpleasant yet you vilify me for the use of one word you don't like.

No-one has mentioned the subject of my post, the poll which shows leave standing at 54% and remain at 32%.

Citizens' rights were going to be a priority of the Brexit negotiations - but it was only a soundbite.

It's going to come down to the numbers in the HoC who will support it. The ERG very possibly will, as will a number of Labour MPs.

It's farcical really because many of those supporting the deal aren't doing so out of conviction that it's the best thing for the country, but to cover their own backs or prop up their party.

From Northern Ireland's perspective, it's a rubbish deal … and what about Gibraltar and the rights of EU citizens in the UK and UK citizens in the EU? They appear to have been sold out for party political reasons.

Chestnut yet more derogatory remarks. Up to this week I was sure we lived in a democracy. That means we have the right to, debate, support, and try and have our view met. We have the right to do this whatever happens, just as those who wanted us to leave have for decades. I suggest the language of the leavers, including your view of "ranting" has always outstripped that of remain voters and has sort to suppress them.

Without another vote in the UK we have no way of knowing who is in the majority. The methodology of the poll you quote has already been shown to be flawed.

Number 10 are now saying that a deal has been done. Congratulations. After three years of hard work, two prime ministers and holding all the cards, you have beaten the EU into accepting one of their own initial suggestions, which Parliament will now reject.

So May’s deal has been reconfirmed, with a tweak (which may recognised would never get through the DUP)

There is always a tendency to believe that 'we' debate and our opponents rant. I have had a quick scan through several pages of posts on this thread and have not seen what I would regard as a 'rant' from either Remainers or Leavers.

Since Leave supporters are confident that they hold the majority position, I truly hope that they will agree to allow the matter to be settled in a People's Vote which will then give a result which all the electorate can have confidence in.

Whitewavemark2 - you and Varian can rant all you like but remainers are in the minority. This is the largest survey since the referendum and was part of a debate last night on Channel 5. It clearly shows the majority of people want to LEAVE THE EU.

I feel exactly the same with the debacle that is brexit, all thought up to save a political party’s skin. Look where it has got us.

Lose of reputation

Billions upon billions gone down the drain for nothing

A smaller economy

A divided country

Lose of respect for our parliament

Hate and violence

And all this before we have left.

With regards to Trump. I sympathise. Of course we know that the majority never voted for him, but he is undoubtedly as bad as was feared.

Amen, Iam64. A great majority of us in the states are mortified by our president's behavior. I feel so tired and beaten down by it all. I fear we will never be trusted and respected again...

Trying, yes but incompetent in the extreme UG. It has always seemed to me that governments have been so lazy in their understanding of the working of the EU was shallow in the extreme. Negotiation seems to have stopped as the issues are on our side and we need to sort them out. The EU cannot do that for us.

I cannot see how anyone thinks leaving without a deal is anything other than self-flagellation for the sake of the cult of "Brexit"; in other words - madness.

I suppose the chances of a deal will always be zero (or very slim). Please the EU and it displeases Parliament.

The majority voted to Leave when we first started trying to negotiate. It would have been better if Gove hasn’t stabbed Boris in the back, giving us Appeaser May and Ollie Robbins but we are where we are (as they say).

Time to leave with No Deal. Article 50 says we can if a negotiated deal isn’t reached after 2 years.

It seems that the DUP has dug the ditch - all Johnson has to do is to throw himself into it.
