My flight home yesterday was delayed due to XR and their antics, as aircraft had to be diverted and were out of position.

This publicity stunt disrupted more airports than just London City.

A friend had the misfortune to walk past one of XRs camps and remarked that the smell of cannabis was extremely strong.

Two young men were stabbed in London overnight and our police officers are having to police a two week party.......not a good or productive use of police hours!!!!!

Climate Change needs to be addressed worldwide, these XR "idiots" are causing everyday citizens a lot on zero hours/low paid jobs to lose earnings that they can ill afford.

Totally wrong way to get the CC message across, they are alienating more than they are engaging in the cause!!!!

I wonder how your friend could be so certain? I frequently confuse herbal tobacco, patchouli oil and cannabis smells. Obviously your friend must have experience, something which she apparently thinks others shouldn't have.
Really the very sad and unnecessary blaming on this thread is pathetic. It isn't XR's fault if staff are on zero hours contracts, nor is it their fault if airport security isn't secure. The vitriol here makes me think that some on GN are having their conscience pricked and they don't like it.

I do what I can with regards CC, and if these XR “extremists” were to send delegates to the most polluting countries parliaments and leaders with practical workable plans ideas I would be applauding them.

I have never used Cannabis or any other drug in my life but I do recognise the very distinctive smell . Apparently there was a young guy on QT last night who mentioned that a lot of them are high as kites on Cannabis .

trisher there is no evidence airport security isn't secure. Both men who disrupted the planes had bought tickets for those flights. The guy did not glue himself to the top of the plane he launched himself from the stairs and lay there. And he wanted to be brought down quickly as it was so cold!
It may not be XR's fault people are on zero hours but surely they are aware that shutting down a premises where the employees are, will involve those employees taking a financial hit. How dare they decide that it's acceptable to put that burden on already struggling workers.

As for the statements about cannabis I still dispute if in a situation most people could tell its smell from other things which are very similar, particularly if that person was already biased about what was happening. In any case who gives a damn? If there was evisdence of real drug use the place would have been raided and arrests made. It's just another way of condemning a whole group of people.
I suppose it depends if you think zero hour workers is an acceptable feature of society. I don't. Blaming XR rather than protesting about the situation for the workers at BK is once again abdicating responsibility. Something that seems to be becoming more and more prevalent on GN. I suppose the reasoning goes- Poor workers, poor workers shut out unable to earn money, must be the fault of the people who closed the place and not the fault of the employers who refuse to pay a living wage. It’s a pity you hadn’t stopped there Trisher the rest is rubbish. Of course we condemn zero hours contracts and low pay , jeez my Dd worked in these conditions for years. But the FACT remains that those people were in work, earning money and “the selfish idiots” managed to get the place closed . I know exactly where I place the blame too . Firmly at the feet of XR .

For goodness sake trisher, zero hours is anathema to me, but to try and deflect from the fact that XR decided they would shut down a premises that would cost the workers their wages is appalling. The fact the workers are poorly paid is indeed the fault of BK, but how you can deny that the fact those workers lost pay because XR decided they would shut the premises is beyond me. If XR aren't prepared to own up to the hardship they decide on, then don't inflict that on others. Of course it may be that they had a collection to ensure non of the workers have suffered financially, taking the hit themselves. Somehow I doubt it, but happy to be proved wrong.

Nothing to stop a caring employer paying the staff if they wanted to gillybob. They won't of course. The amount they lose in profits will be negligible but they still won't. Why? Because a culture of using and abusing workers is now the norm. That isn't XR's fault.

It is possible to agree that's something needs to be done about CC and not want to dance half naked to your own song "there is no Planet B" in front of at least 10 uniformed police officers who have have more important things they could be doing with their police hours, especially given the knife crime epidemic currently blighting London.

But it is XR's fault that they won't get paid! Yes BK could choose to pay them (unlikely) but it is XR's fault that the situation arises. Surely you can't deny that? What gives unelected XR the right to decide which premises shall be allowed to stay open and which shall not? If you don't want to hurt innocent people why not target employers who will pay their staff?

GG13 Protest has always been necessary to change things. Few of our now taken for granted freedoms were won without real protest. I can't see that climate change will be treated seriously without XR. From the Chartists, through Peterloo, the suffragettes and Black Friday organised groups of protestors have fought for and forced change. I support XR and their right to protest because protest works.

janipat if you don't understand why BK were targetted you don't understand climate change or what is happening.

trisher can you justify why they targeted a premises where they knew the workers wouldn't get paid rather than say M&S who undoubtedly would pay?

Because it's not just about closing a branch of BK. It's about making people aware of what has been and still is happening. Then hopefully they will think twice before they buy a burger.

So why not target every company that produces goods made from wood? Every company producing meat products ? Every company using paper? Every restaurant serving meat? The list is endless......

Oh yes put thousands of young people out of a job trisher how thoughtful .
