Boris Johnson and his lies

The independent think tank UK in a Changing Europe has today found that Johnson's deal would reduce GDP per capita by between 2.3% and 7% over the next decade. This compares with May's deal where the estimate was between 1.9% and 5.5%. They also suggest that a deal would hit public finances by £16bn and £49bn.

Today in parliament Johnson promised that high standards on workers rights an environmental protections will be maintained.

The political declaration can enter UK law but it is only a statement of intent and he can therefore promise the ERG that, if he wins the next election, he will set aside the political declaration and pivot towards deregulation and a sweetheart deal with Trump. The purpose of the ERG is to deregulate at home in order to strike trade deals with the US and emerging markets.

Would someone please explain why he should now be trusted when he has lied throughout the whole of his career. After all, leopards don't change their spots. It would take too long to list all his lies, but here's some, as a reminder:

1. When suspended from the cable car across the Thames, the mechanism apparently failed. Of course, it was deliberately stopped and he claimed it failed for a good photo opportunity.

2. In his manifesto for the London Mayor election he promised that he would ensure that there would be manned ticket offices at every train station. he then agreed to widespread closures in order to fund 24 hour tube trains

3. Also in his manifesto he promised to eradicate rough sleeping - it doubled during his tenure

4. He lied about the reason for proroguing parliament

5. He repeated his lie about the EU regulating the shape of bananas

6. He lied about there being no press when he was at GOS Hospital

Now for the money wasted whilst mayor on vanity projects:

1. Feasibility study into the Garden Bridge - £52 million

2. Cable car £24 million

3. Boris bikes £225 million (original idea Ken Livingstone but BJ implemented it)

4. Water cannon £323,000 - not allowed under UK law, unsold and now scrapped

5. Estuary airport feasibility study £5.2 million

6. Olympic stadium conversion to football pitch for West Ham - £305 million. The club was supposed to contribute £153 million but in the end it only paid £15 million and now pays annual rent of £2.5 million.

7. Routemaster hybrid buses £321.6 million - superseded by the introduction of electric buses. It's USP is now defunct because the doors at the rear "hop on hop off" platforms are closed in moving traffic (and that includes at walking pace)

A few of these projects had small amounts of sponsorship money but most of the costs were funded by the tax payer

Unbelievable sad

The process of a veted official report is to print it within 10 days. If this does not happen, I seriously hope it will be leaked. If the Government refused to abide by our own Sovereign Laws - then surely those who can have a duty to correct this.

Shadow foreign secretary Emily Thornberry has written to Tory counterpart Dominic Raab questioning whether the former Vote Leave director has been granted access to the government’s most sensitive “top secret” intelligence files.

In a letter copied to the heads of MI5 and MI6 and Cabinet Secretary Sir Mark Sedwill on Friday, she said Labour did not “know the veracity of their claims” but felt compelled to inform them.

She wrote: “I am writing to you based on the serious concerns that have been raised with shadow ministers by an official-level whistleblower,” she wrote.
J
“I feel duty-bound to put to you the concerns raised with the Labour front bench by a whistleblower whose motives we have no cause to question.”

The individual was said to have approached Labour figures to question “relationships” Cummings may have fostered with people involved in “politics, intelligence and security” in Russia when he worked there in the 1990s.

Cummings is yet to respond to a request for comment on the letter first reported by the Sunday Times.

The Cabinet Office said: “We do not comment on individuals’ security clearance.”

The questions came as the prime minister faces calls to publish a key report assessing the threat posed by Russia to Britain’s democratic processes.

Former attorney general Dominic Grieve, who has seen the dossier, stressed its publication is essential ahead of the General Election, with it containing information “germane” to voters.

Liberal Democrat leader Jo Swinson also called on the government to stop “keeping it a secret”.

Grieve, chairman of the Intelligence and Security Committee at parliament, has accused the PM of sitting on the report ahead of the December 12 vote.

The independent MP, who was exiled from the Tories by the PM over his no-deal Brexit opposition, is calling on the Conservative leader to publish the committee’s report before parliament is dissolved on Tuesday.

A Downing Street spokeswoman said: “There are a number of administrative stages/processes which reports such as this – which often contain sensitive information – have to go through before they are published.

“This usually takes several weeks to complete. The committee is well informed of this process.”

The reason is that the Tories do not want the voters to know that Russia interfered in the fraudulent referendum. They would rather get votes from people who say "I voted Remain but I respect the result of the referendum because I'm a democrat". If the truth was known no-one could possibly respect the result of that fraudulent referendum. It was not democratic. It was a corruption of our democracy and should not be respected.

jura2 Sun 03-Nov-19 10:29:06

Confirmed today on Andrew Marr- that the Government has no intention of publishing the report on Russian Interference any time soon- and probably not before the GE.

I wonder why? Any ideas?

I agree with Tooting that Boris lacks integrity and I also think Swinson leaves a lot to be desired. Corbyn is a no no for me on so many levels but I could cheerfully have voted for frank field.

Actually I think we need to stop thinking of who’s the best (the all have failings) and think about who’s the least worst and can be trusted to deliver what they promise.....oh wait....

MaizieD Sun 03-Nov-19 09:01:36

Perhaps instead of vaguely tarring all 'political leaders' with the same brush of 'lacking integrity' you might name some names and detail the evidence against them. It's not fair on the ones who do have integrity to lump them all together.

In fact, I think it's quite dangerous. It's the sort of statement which leads to people believing that 'all politicians are liars' and 'out to feather their own nests'. Not helpful to democracy...

Tooting29 Sun 03-Nov-19 08:47:56

Integrity in the PM is sadly lacking and in many of our political leaders.

WWMK2 I have posted repeatedly on the political threads that I am not a Boris Johnson fan, but I am a Conservative through and through!!!

You knew exactly how your post would be interpreted.

I watch and listen to BBC news and there has been no mention of the files being handed to the CPS. Has anyone seen or heard it on any other TV or radio? Its all over Twitter.

It keeps being pulled. So once again...

Boris Johnson pulled a media stunt at a hospital in Cambridge. Just listen to what this student Doctor had to say about it. These are the people at the frontline.

They know what is happening.

Listen to them.

Acuri is still bubbling under the surface.

jura2 Sat 02-Nov-19 10:46:34

We must make sure this is not allowed to disappear. Write to your MP, write letters to the Press- put it on your FB, Twitter, etc. Keep it going.

MaizieD Sat 02-Nov-19 10:36:55

grin

Wwmk2, your post at 10.30. That's the third time that news has been posted this morning on this thread. wink

Still, I don't think it can be repeated too often... But is anyone listening?

More lies

Rachel Clarke
@doctor_oxford

Seems
@BorisJohnson
’s lying is contagious.

Last week
@MattHancock
tweeted we had “thousands” more GPs.

A lie.

Now
@UKStatsAuth
has called him on it.

So he quietly deleted the tweet, hoping no-one would notice.

@MattHancock
you are a liar.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 02-Nov-19 10:30:32

Fraud?? As well as lies

EXCLUSIVE: The Metropolitan Police have passed a file of criminal evidence against
@BorisJohnson
and Dominic Cummings' Vote Leave campaign to the Crown Prosecution Service:

gg13

I said that some of our voters are at the level of American political sophistication. That is all.

You decided that the American voters are not educated or political aware.

You chose to put a pejorative interpretation on what I posted

jura2 Sat 02-Nov-19 09:57:12

I do not believe one word Johnson's says. Not about Farage's alliance, and not about the NHS. Not one.

The Metroplitan Police have passed evidence to the CPS regarding illegality (Cambridge Analytica etc) in the Leave Campaign. This happened yesterday.

suzied Sat 02-Nov-19 09:31:48

Unfortunately some of the population are poorly educated. Therefore, many voters of all colours will come in that category. No-one has said ALL voters.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 02-Nov-19 09:05:10

WWMK2 "the voters political sophistication is at the level that this sort of rhetoric appeals" so are you implying that anyone voting Conservative is not educated or politically aware?

No doubt if a post was put up about Labour voters must all be anti Semitic and IRA sympathisers because that is what Jeremy Corbyn is accused of you would be happy to agree with it?

Whitewavemark2 Sat 02-Nov-19 08:59:29

gg13 why?

Because I’m comparing them to the American voter?
