I would just like one thread for brexiters only please.

I voted leave. I would vote leave again and again and again. There has been nothing to change my mind. I have been hardened by the views of remainers.

I would really like to talk to other brexit minded posters.
Thanks.

“Persuasions” not the word my iPad invented!

MawB Mon 21-Oct-19 12:02:30

Alexa I think I know what you meant, but GN has in the past been a forum for discussion, friendship and support for people of different views and resuasions with the only thing we have absolutely in common being our age “over 55”
I don’t like to think that my political opinions or my religious views or my marital status or my education could in any way “disqualify” me from a group of virtual friends.
I think it is dangerous to restrict one’s social interaction to “people like us” to one’s “tribe” - taken to is extremes, that can lead to narrow mindedness and the insular approach of “My country right or wrong “.

humptydumpty Mon 21-Oct-19 11:55:11

Out of interest Rgirl, do you think
(a) your hopes can only be satisfied when 'England is for the English'
(b) your hopes will be satisfied when 'England is for the English'

I myself would like to think that these values could come back - but I fear that horse has bolted

Labaik Mon 21-Oct-19 11:50:38

There are plenty of pro Brexit facebook pages Alexa but they really are not pleasant places to be.

Alexa Mon 21-Oct-19 11:32:11

MawB , greetings. By 'tribe' I don't mean blood or marriage relations but people who think alike. I daresay everyone likes to be acknowledged .

There must be some administrative reason for gransnet not providing such forums. I bet there are plenty I love brexit forums elsewhere. There's even a political party especially for I love brexit.

Labaik Mon 21-Oct-19 11:29:01

Isn't there a bill being read in parliament today to stop EU Nationals opening up businesses in this country [I will double check in a bit]. If so, hurrah. No more pesky furriners opening up shops that stay open all hours. We can buy British things for British people and, when Yellowhammer is in full flow we can even have a post war fantasy with rationing etc that none of those pesky furriners can join in with cause they'll be gone. I'm beside myself with excitement. Hadn't realised what fun it would be being a born again brexiteer….

lemongrove Mon 21-Oct-19 11:14:02

Well said Rgirl smile

Rgirl Mon 21-Oct-19 11:12:01

Thank you MawB and everyone else who responded. I wholeheartedly respect the decision of the people and like others just want it sorted for the better we hope for everyone who lives here.

I know no other country as my home I was born here over 50 years ago and even more so for my children who have only one grandparent left. I want the same morals and values for my children as many others. I have brought them up to work hard for everything they own. To love and respect each and every individual something that needs to be instilled in more children. The street I lived on, if you were rude to any adult they could give you a clip round the ear with out any PC Some of the values I grew up with, I would love to see some bought back and even if financially things may be hard in the beginning I sincerely hope that we can all work for the common good including a better future for the generations to come.

It feels like Hotel California -you can check out any time you like but you can never leave!

Alexa Mon 21-Oct-19 11:09:51

It's always a nice feeling to be with one's own tribe. I was recently requesting a special sacrosanct forum for Christian devotions.

lemongrove Mon 21-Oct-19 11:02:01

Don’t fall for it NanKate smile

MaizieD Mon 21-Oct-19 10:52:26

We're not asking for people's reasons for voting Leave, NanKate. We're asking them to tell us how our lives will be improved by leaving the EU.

Eloethan Mon 21-Oct-19 10:39:08

aprilrose You said your thread was about giving leavers a much needed opportunity to "open up about hopes and aspirations" My response was "but they didn't did they". You replied that they hadn't had the chance. You then wrote two long posts, neither of which made reference, in support of your feelings of hope, to what you feel will be the advantages of leaving.

The new poster Ladymuck says she was reluctant to join Gransnet to post her views because she thought Gransnet was the natural home of remainers. For a start, her view is not correct - there are many Gransnetters supporting leave. But, like you aprilrose, there are some who feel unable to to deal with being challenged about their ideas and claims - and so remain silent.

My husband voted to leave and I did to an extent agree with him on some issues. I do not think he or others like him who have expressed specific concerns are "half wits" but I don't agree with them and I think I and others have the right to disagree and the responsibility to say why.

dragonfly46 Mon 21-Oct-19 10:27:27

Hear hear Maw I feel exactly the same.

NanKate Mon 21-Oct-19 10:26:49

A well written and considered post April at 6.24.

I gave chosen not to justify my reasons for wanting to leave as I have found, from experience, it gives ammunition to the Remainers to rubbish my comments. I rarely ever see a Leaver ask a Remainer to justify themselves, or did I miss it ?

nannypink1 Mon 21-Oct-19 10:22:11

I’m a Brexiteer and proud of it ...NOTHING will change my mind and like a lot of others feel very let down by my mp...our area voted to leave but she isa Remainer and went against the democratic vote in our area...disgusted

lemongrove Mon 21-Oct-19 09:30:39

‘Nor did I regard those who voted otherwise as half wits’
Well expressed Maw and neither did I.
Now we are almost at the endgame I hope things on GN will improve.....am nostalgic for the politics threads of old now!

lemongrove Mon 21-Oct-19 09:26:24

Oh MaizieD.......is your nose growing very very long?
You weren’t hoping for anything other than a good old chance to insult and belittle.
Still......not long to go now hopefully for the first phase of exiting the EU is done and then perhaps we can all get back to rubbishing Corbyn and pals.
Won’t that be wonderful?

MawB Mon 21-Oct-19 09:25:45

Rgirl thank you for an honest post which impressed me with its sincerity and goodwill.
You are very welcome.

MawB Mon 21-Oct-19 09:23:59

aprilrose, don't waste your time trying to reason with Remainers. They think we are all half-wits

That is the sort of blanket condemnation which I find so divisive and frankly unhelpful.
I am feeling increasingly uncomfortable on a site where I used to feel I had friends.
Perhaps I did vote Remain - does that categorise me as a Remainer? I also, for the first time in my life, voted Labour at the last GE as our local candidate had really impressed me. That does not make me a “Corbynista”
Nor did I regard those who voted otherwise as half-wits.
I have respect for the political views of my friends and family even if I do not agree with them but cannot accept the cut and dried division into sheep and goats I am feeling here.
This is yet more stirring sad

MaizieD Mon 21-Oct-19 09:17:35

I am really sad that we will be cut off from all the Europewide organisations we have been involved in for 40 years and no-one will tell me why :-(((

Me too, yggdrasil. I was hoping for enlightenment from this thread.

Also sad that they determinedly avoid facts because it makes me strongly doubt the validity of their 'we knew what we were voting for' assertion. Taken out of the EU against our wills because of a load of lies.

Firecracker123 Mon 21-Oct-19 09:15:29

Missfoodlove thanks for the YouTube link so funny, many a true word spoken in jest lol.

yggdrasil Mon 21-Oct-19 09:04:01

yesterday,posted by Aprilrose
"yggdrasail, why should I want to persuade you of anything? My experience on other threads is that whatever I say it will not be acceptable, so I will say nothing. I do not accept your premise that any explanation of my reasons for voting should be open to your varification anyway. So, I will decline to answer you. I had what I consider good reasons for voting leave. My reasons have not changed. The situation that led to my vote has not changed any. I am not now entering into more debate about it."

I asked for the reasons why voting leave was so important to AR. (I didn't want a debate, just some sort of understanding.) But as always, it seems to come down to 'It just is'.
And that goes for all other Leavers here too.
I am really sad that we will be cut off from all the Europewide organisations we have been involved in for 40 years and no-one will tell me why :-(((
