its a load of cobblers
That certainly sums up your post moggie57.
Let's start with your view of Australia. Australia was a founder member of the Commonwealth in 1931 when its independence was recognised under the Statute of Westminster. What has something that happened in 1931 got to do with the EU?
The EU is not a "trust". It is a group of, up 'till now, 28 independent nation-states who have chosen to work together to the advantage, in varying ways, of each and every one of them.
Because we make trade agreements with 28 other nations we get them on extremely good terms. I am horrified that you may still believe that as one nation, possibly only England with Wales, we can get anything like those terms. Have you ever seen a corner shop (our new position if we leave) being able to negotiate and therefore sell to us at the same prices as the supermarkets which is currently our position when working with the EU? Even the corner shops work together on their trade deals with wholesalers and they can still not compete with the supermarkets. Of course, we will not be able to get deals as good as we have now. We will have to agree to trade in our National Health, our health and safety laws and our work conditions and still not get the deals the EU countries can working together.
