My OH's family are from Aberfan, his mum and her siblings were born there, so it is always remembered with much sadness.
That's a lovely thing to do Annie.

How wonderful to send flowers from us Annie thank you and from me flowers for you.

53 years does not seem possible as the memory is still so vivid.
Those children should have been joining us as grandparents now.

How could anyone who was alive then ever forget it?

lemongrove Mon 21-Oct-19 20:54:36

We will always remember

It was tragic. The tragedy also that one hour earlier the children would not have been at school and a few hours later they would have broken up for half term. In memoriam. x

That's lovely, Anniebach.

I remember this happening. I was about 5 at the time. My mother was very upset and I can recall my parents discussing it.

I was petrified that this was going to happen at my school for quite a while after. It affected me and I was too young to understand exactly what had happened.

Recently I've seen footage of the funerals. How those people managed to be so composed I'll never know.

A truly tragic event

Thank you maw and Annie I remember the day so clearly. Was working in Cardiff and at first we thought was a pit disaster. I also clearly remember Lord Robens spouting off his sympathies and then fighting to avoid paying any compensation and even taking money from the fund to repair some of the damage.

Anniebach Thu 24-Oct-19 21:59:44

Money was taken from the fund to remove the remaining tips,
Lord Robens was declared st the enquiry to be ‘economical with the truth ‘, there was a demand that he be removed as head of the N.C.B, he wasn’t. Harold Wilson snd the NUM kept him in his post

Yes, I cried again and remember it well. My eldest D was 5 and gave in her 6pence pocket money at her school to which she received a letter of thanks.
It took a long time to get over the terrible tragedy and those of us who had small children at the time were reminded about all the children who lost their lives. It was a terrible time.
Thankyou for remembering, Annie x

Thank you Annie for your lovely gesture with the flowers from all of us. You deserve flowers yourself for all the pain this tragedy must cause you, every year, over and over again.

Another thank you from me Annie, thank you for the flowers and the thoughts from us all.
I was 13 years old when this tragedy occurred, and I remember so well the scenes on the news and the pictures in the newspaper.
Now I have four little grandchildren of my own, the thought of such a thing happening to them strikes fear into my heart. Those poor parents and grandparents, and the poor little children. There simply are no words even all these years later. RIP
