What would you do? (Trust dilemma)

I’m sorry, but I’m not sure which forum to post my dilemma on, so I hope it’s ok here.

The thing is, I have got someone lined up to do a job for me in the house, well actually it’s to install a new central heating system and boiler.

He seems like a really nice guy, ever-so posh and a really good laugh. He has promised me that he will get the job done quickly and has given me a really good quote for the job.

The thing is, I’ve asked around and found that he has never actually completed any job to anyone’s satisfaction, has told one lie after another and is a bit of a ladies’ man (although this last doesn’t bother me). He is apparently being investigated for fraud in one job he did. I even asked his sister what she thought and she said she wouldn’t trust him.

He has promised me that he will get the job done by 31st October or he'll die trying, but to be honest some of the things he is planning to do to cut corners seem a little bit left of the law to me. I am also a bit concerned that he has not actually signed the quote he has given me.

I would really value everyone’s opinion – do you think I should trust him and let him into my house?

So why on a good natured thresd did you have to come on and be so sour? God knows we need some fun on GN at the moment.

Suziewoozie, I get that, I was just stating that it’s not my preference, I am really happy for those that do, I was sharing my opinion, did you not get that ??

Being a trusting soul I took it at face value at first - but happy to admit that and laugh now.
It is very funny.

Fair enough B There’s a difference between not finding it funny and saying it was mean ( which was GG!s original position) But really why even bother to come on and even say that?
Not pleasant

Especially as the OP was so nice to those that were hoodwinked

Thank you for your lovely support, everyone (well, almost everyone!). Much appreciated.

I am not daunted. I have noticed that few threads on anything but the most light-hearted topics get beyond 5 pages before the negative or po-faced posts arrive. Hmm....hope I've not been guilty myself hmm.....!

The most frustrating thing, is posts which show that the writer has not bothered to read the thread.

Light hearted and clever. Loved it.

MawB Thu 24-Oct-19 22:18:43

Do you all remember Richard Dimbleby and the spaghetti harvest?
Nobody thought that mean and there were those who took it at face value!

Gonegirl Thu 24-Oct-19 22:27:15

That was an April Fools joke. confused

Gonegirl Thu 24-Oct-19 22:27:38

Bit different.

MawB Thu 24-Oct-19 23:17:14

Granted it was on April1 but I don’t think the other 364days of the year have to be grumpy doom and gloom.

Initially I was fooled, but then realised it had been posted in the Politics forum. I actually mentioned it to my husband, saying that I wished I was smart enought to write a post like that.
I have not seen any meanness and think people are overracting. I'm sure Amagran never intentionally set out to hurt or make a fool of anyone. Furthermore, I suspect how we are feeling at the time of posting, may depend on how we interpret it.
In the past, I have rushed to post and regretted it when I realised I hadn't read the OP carefully enough. blush.
Perhaps it's time to let this thread go.

Thank you, Marydoll, you are right. My post of Tues 22nd Oct. 23:58:19 was intended to draw this thread to a close. It was fun, thanks to everyone's witty, good-natured and kind contributions but has probably run its course.

I hope that anyone coming new to the thread now will not just read the OP, but also my Tues 22nd Oct. 23:58:19 post.

See you next time the muse visits! wink

Labaik Thu 24-Oct-19 16:52:23 I am envious but not in a nasty way, wish I was that good.

If I don't 'get' a thread I don't comment! Why do some have to be so horrid, just don't come on to threads you don't like.

Huffs off to meet a friend grin

Bit slow on the uptake these days!
